What: Bringing Svala back from the ruins. With pretty wings!
When: A day after this
Where: The Ruins
Summary: Kratos just can't stay away from Svala. :|
Rating: PG?

Scorching desert air whipped across his face as Kratos flew towards the ruins. He'd never flown such a long distance ever since he came to this world; he had forgotten what a rush it was to fly with only the mana on his back to support him. It was one of the only things he liked about being an angel.

He had brought all of the necessities with him - food, water, even a blanket for the night, enough for two - in a small backpack that he carried on his arm. He needed his back to be free so that he could feel the subtle changes in the wind. His angel wings were sensitive enough to feel such things. The Filial wings were sensitive as well, but they were not meant for flying. Kratos regarded them as useless.

A day after he talked to Svala, he finally saw the ruins in the distance, though he couldn't see her figure just yet. Kratos began to descend through the air, calculating how slow he would have to fly in order to land smoothly on the sand. He only hoped that Svala would be finished soon. Kratos rather preferred to wait outside and not get hopelessly lost in the ruins while trying to find her.

Once he landed, he allowed his wings to stay out for a moment longer as he knelt to recover. The flight to the ruins took more out of him than he thought it would, yet he'd only need a few moments of rest. The way back would be a little harder and he knew it.

"They are...of your life." Svala wasn't foolish enough to try and touch them again but she gestures, keeping her head down. "I am sorry. Had I known, I would not have tried to touch them. It was foolish of me."

"My ability." Svala wrung her hands, averting her eyes. "...it is an invasive one, and I will not be so bold as to claim that I have never used it without permission. ...I have read politicians, noblemen, soldiers, all for the sake of my country, my family...even without their knowledge. I will not lie." It was something she occasionally felt great shame over, knowing that she was making herself privy to the deepest feelings of others, taking advantage of her own power over people, both with her lunaglyph and as Empress.

"I...had never intended to do such a thing to you, Kratos." She lowered her head, lower until it was a bow, and she held it. "I cannot apologize enough."

At Kratos' insistence, Svala slowly straightened, nervously adjusting her hair. She supposed she was overreacting; a relatively foreign concept to her, actually, as she hadn't done such a thing in upwards of a few hundred years. But...emotions, feelings...they were sacred. Souls were sacred. When Svala had ascended to an aristo, she'd clung desperately to those feelings at first, even forcing herself to feel on occasion. Eventually she became accustomed to the power in her body and settled back into her emotions, though they were rather subdued from what they had been previously.

But...she knew Kratos valued his privacy, and more than that she valued it. What she worried most about was damaging the friendship they'd formed. ...he was her first actual friend, after all, the first since Volsung had "died."

"...very well. I shall take more care in the future."

"Yes, her enthusiasm. I have heard." Svala followed him outside, blinking a bit at the bright sunlight and shielding her eyes. "...you are certain it would not be too taxing to carry me and fly?"

"Ah- yes." Svala stepped closer, up to his side. She gave the sky a rather threatening look, as if daring it to drop she and Kratos at any time during the flight and steeled herself.

Svala- yes. Definitely squeaked in surprise, and then alarm when they began to lift. She threw her arms around his neck and pressed her face to his shoulder; her feet no longer on solid ground -nor Kratos'- suddenly rendered her unable to hear the spirit of earth's voice, and she was a bit unnerved.

It does take a little time, but after a while Svala peeks over his shoulder at the rapidly disappearing silhouette of the ruins, dark against the sun and looking smaller by the moment. The sand rushed beneath them in a blur of gold and brown, flecked with the occasional color of the wildlife. Wind pulled at her hair -and his- but the idea of letting go of her steady grip to fix it was a rather terrifying one.

She realized how tightly she was holding on and forced herself to loosen her hold. No need to choke him, after all.

Looking up was an infinitely better option than looking down, and Svala glanced skyward to take note of their position. The clouds looked wispy and thin -due to the lack of moisture above the desert- but she could see off in the distance the full, white clouds above the mountains.

"They appear solid, in places. It is...difficult to believe that they are composed only of water, at times."

"Fascinating," she whispered; this was as close to the heavens as she'd ever been. While her people didn't worship the sky, the stars or the sun, they did worship the moon. And even if this world's moon was pitifully small in comparison to her own, that was mostly due to the chains pulling it closer to the earth. Her conflicted feelings on the topic of Veros notwithstanding, traveling unbound by the earth she held so dear was...

Well, a little exhilarating.
