Summary: They get out of the house and go train... it's pretty simple, really

Sora had rolled off his bed and grabbed his heavy jacket, gloves, and hat after shutting his journal, tossing it aside and heading out the door pretty quickly. He wasn't angry at Axel - maybe kind of annoyed a little, but not angry; Axel was just pretty good at being irritating. But he really did calm down quickly, and the really cold trip out to the barracks helped that along a lot, even when taken at a full sprint.

He wasn't sure where Kairi'd been when that whole conversation started up, so as he walked in the door and pulled off his hat, he was looking around for her. "Kairi? You here?"

No, actually, Kairi wasn't quite at the barracks yet. She was in the middle of the village looking for a new pair of gloves when she had checked her journal and found Axel's little story. After agreeing to meet Sora out at the barracks, she left the shop and headed there as quickly as she could, January snow crunching under her feet as she ran. The cold motivated her to keep on running and she reached the area quicker than anticipated. She noticed the door was open then and slipped inside.

"Hi, sorry," she immediately apologized upon seeing Sora there. "Were you waiting long?"

He'd actually been farther from the barracks than her, but he'd sprinted top speed cross-country. Sora turned and grinned as she walked in, tossing his warm gloves to join his coat and hat in a corner. "Nah, I just got here myself. It's too cold to stay outside now." Then again, all of winter was like that. He wanted his palm trees again.

After growing up on the islands with Sora and Riku (and not to mention following them to different worlds), Kairi was used to running long distances at top speeds. Adding her own gloves and coat to the pile in the corner then, she merely smiled at that.

"Oh good. And yeah, I know what you mean. Kind of makes you miss the islands, doesn't it?" It was like she had read his mind; either that, or she just really missed the warm weather too. Even though she had been in Luceti for almost a year according to the calendar, the snow was still rather strange to her just as it had been last winter.

He'd been in snow, traveled through it, fought in it, but he'd never lived in snow, and it was showing. "Yeah," was Sora's emphatic reaction as he stretched out his arms to loosen them up, shaking them out after he'd pushed them out about as far as they could go. "I mean, home aside and everything, it's warm there. Even the gummi ship was warm, but this place isn't gonna be for another three or four months." He's gonna be a Soracicle by that point.

She could have easily said something along the lines of, 'Well, we'll just have to keep each other warm' just to see Sora's reaction, but his comment threw her off-guard. Giving him a skeptical look, she changed her mind.

"The gummi ship? You can't tell me that thing had a heater in it."

"Space is cold, why wouldn't it?" Why wouldn't it indeed. And with one last shake of his arms, he was ready to go. "So, you ready?" he asked, holding out a hand and calling up the Keyblade with its usual flash.

"I guess that makes sense," she said after a bit. After all, it was probably better to agree with Sora than try to think on it too much. She eyed the Keyblade carefully before looking back at him. "Are you going to let me train with the Keyblade this time?" She almost sounded hopeful.

Sora grinned and held it out to her, offering the hilt almost casually. "Why not? It helps, you know - sort of tells you how to fight. I know I couldn't've done some of the stuff I did otherwise." So, hopefully this would translate to Kairi, even though this wasn't her Keyblade. "You did great against those Shadows without practice, after all."

She wasted no time in grasping the hilt of the weapon, praying it would stay materialized in her hand. When it stayed, she tightened her grip just a bit, nodding in agreement. "Thanks. I think if I actually have practice, I'll really be able to help out here." Stepping back away from Sora, she gave a few test swings with the Keyblade. They were nowhere near as fluid as Sora's own, or even Riku's own swings using a wooden sword, but it was still something.

Sora didn't doubt it'd stay - she'd already handled it before a couple of times, after all. He just stepped back out of the way of her swings before she really got going, and nodded.

"...Yeah, I think it helps. I mean, that's a lot more together than it was last time we used the fake swords. It's not something you should count on, but anything helps, right?"

She continued with a few practice swings, keeping her grip tight so the weapon didn't go flying.

"Yeah, anything helps," she echoed, slowing down her swings. "What else do you think I should try with it?"

"Blocking." It was definitely an easy answer, and Sora went over to get one of the practice swords out of a rack on the wall. He was fully confident in his ability to dodge her attacks - she just wasn't that good yet. But she would be, he'd make sure of that. "And attacking against someone blocking. 'Cause a lot of fighting is trying to get around your opponent's weapon."

So Sora went over and stood in front of her, sword held in his usual ready position. "Okay, attack me, about at my ribs."

Kairi followed him with her eyes, watching as he grabbed one of the swords and giving him a skeptical look. He wanted her...to attack his ribs?

"Sora, are you sure this is a good idea?" She looked back and forth between the practice sword and the Keyblade. How exactly was he supposed to block with that?

He'd gotten a very blunt metal weapon - even given how strong the Keyblade was, it wasn't going to break the sword. Especially not with Kairi swinging it this early on in her training. Sora just grinned. "Yeah, don't worry, just swing at me. I'll block it and show you how that works, then you can try and go for my head."

He'd be fine! He was a lot faster than her, after all.

Despite the fact it was metal, she still wasn't too sure about how well it'd hold up against the Keyblade. "Your head?" This really wasn't too surprising to her the longer she thought about it. She had grown up watching Sora and Riku spar with each other all the time. However, she couldn't help but wonder how much head trauma would be caused if the Keyblade connected with the brunet's skull.

Heaving the Keyblade up a little higher, she put herself into an attacking stance before swinging the weapon at Sora's, hoping he was really ready to block it.

No longer awkward as hell about it, Sora let himself hug her back, grinning at the kiss on his cheek. They got to do this so rarely, every time it was kind of like an adventure.

"Yeah, well." His grin widened, but he didn't let her go. "You're worth it. Really worth it."

[flaring]

"You guys are going to give me cavities."

The sudden voice was followed by Axel's hooded figure stepping out into view. He hadn't been watching long honestly, but from what he saw he knew he was interrupting an important moment. Good. If it's one thing Axel's good at it's being a pest. And it was something he liked doing, especially when it was Sora and Kairi he was doing it to. Which is why the earlier conversation went a little too far before Axel realized what he was doing. But after eavesdropping on their meeting arrangement of course he was going to follow them, maybe even apologize if he felt like it. But who knew he'd stumble upon this rather interesting scene. They could probably catch a grin from underneath his hood as he stood there and looked at them.

Her first reaction was to jump in surprise and pull back from Sora, necklace bouncing at the sudden movement. Once she got a good look at who was standing there, however, her expression changed from being surprised to being incredibly annoyed.

It hadn't really occurred to her that Axel would really follow her and Sora out to the barracks, but thinking back on it? She should have just assumed Axel was going to be nosy and a pest about it.

"Oh, sorry. We forgot to think of your health," she said with a bit of a huff. Honestly, she could tolerate Axel, maybe even admit she liked him as a friend, but he didn't need to be there. Why was he there now?

His first reaction mirrored hers - Sora definitely jumped, letting go of her and swinging to face the voice. And his own nicely happy expression just Went Away as he spotted Axel. Yeah - they really, really should've expected this, shouldn't they?

Yeah. They should have. Seriously.

"Yeah, Axel." He liked the Nobody, definitely considered him a friend, but this was Their Moment and now he was mucking it up. But Axel would probably be relieved that he only looked kind of annoyed, not majorly ticked off - apparently the 'grrr'ness from their first argument had worn off, and Sora wasn't about to pull out the Epic Weapon yet. "You know how worried we are about your teeth."

[flaring]

Oh boy, that's something he hadn't seen out of Sora in a while. He knew to expect that sort of reaction and it was even amusing, but still, a small part of him faltered a bit. Nobodies are supposed to be unable to feel things like guilt, but something made Axel hesitate that little bit. He knew he probably pushed too hard this time, even if he wasn't able to tell right away. And honestly, as much as he teases Sora, getting the boy ticked off wasn't something he liked to do. At least Sora hasn't taken out the Keyblade yet, right? So maybe that was a good sign. Still, Axel had his part to keep up.

"Oh, did I interrupt something? My apologies!"

Kairi just rolled her eyes. How did they always end up with the weird ones as friends?

"No, you didn't interrupt anything," she replied, though if looks could kill Axel would have been burned alive a good number of times. "What are you even doing here?" She couldn't tell if Sora really was upset or just annoyed, but she wasn't going to say anything else just yet.

Because they were also the weird ones.

Sora wasn't upset, but it had been their time. They didn't get a lot of it, after all. So he folded his arms, watching Axel and definitely not impressed by whatever it was he saw. "Yeah, right! I bet you knew just what was going on when you decided to walk in!"

[flaring]

"Hey, not my fault you two decide to have moments in really odd places," he teased, shrugging one of his shoulders in a lazy manner. "I'm just here minding my own business."

Of course he actually wasn't, but that was fairly easy to tell. Axel approached closer to them and flipped down his hood, now it being more apparent he was grinning in amusement at them. And that look Kairi was giving him was enough to make him chuckle lightly.

"Right, you just decided it would be convenient to come out here right after are conversation. I see how it is," Kairi sighed, giving him another exasperated look. It suddenly became apparent that Axel wasn't going to leave for a while.

"Are you really that bored? I thought you could bother Roxas and Xion at least," she added.

"Yeah, right! Don't even try that, you knew we'd be here." Oh Axel. You and your trollin'. Sora's matching Kairi's look, though he still hasn't pulled out the Keyblade and, at this point, it's obvious he won't unless Axel does something incredibly stupid.

His expression got even more annoyed, though, as Axel revealed his grin. "So why are you here?"
