I want to skip like a stone from a stronger arm

Who: Ginko and Katara and PLANTS
What: Garden-growing
When: Backdated to late Monday morning
Where: near the Avatar house
Summary: In which roots!metaphors are possibly abused, and Katara starts a garden with her Responsible Adult figure.
Rating: Angst. And fluff. Inevitable fluff.

So. It's been a day since the drafted returned from killing Third Party members-- and Ginko knows how he feels about that, both the returns and the killings. But rather than dwell too long on the gulf between those emotions, he resorts to doing. Work is the best cure for over-thinking, and he has a particular kind of work in mind.

So he goes searching for a certain draftee who he suspects that cure might benefit, pack a little heavier than usual-- being loaded full of an idea.

Having her plans of isolation spoiled the day before, Katara is hoping for some of that today. The return to the power cap alone is something that takes some adjusting to, it's like walking around with her hands clapped over her ears after finally feeling right for the first time since they got here. But they're back in Luceti, if not 'home' then at least in the house that they call their own.

After a group grocery trip, Sokka and Toph are pursuing their own interests, while she remains behind to settle the house to her satisfaction. There's a certain peace to it, even if the silence is heavy and she can't help feeling unsettled.

It's been a full week.

Well, who could that be? Sokka and Toph would not knock - and hopefully someone would try calling her over the journals if something had gone wrong...

She sets aside the rag she's been using for dusting and moves to open the door.

"Ginko!" There's a pause as her gaze goes from surprise to quick assessment, and then very quickly to a pleased smile that may not take the guarded edge out of her eyes. "It's good to see you! Please, come in. Can I get you anything to drink?"

They're easy, familiar words of hospitality and welcome which hopefully hide the fact that suddenly Katara wants to be very busy.

She pauses, "What is it?" The look she gives him now is assessing. "Are you all right?"

Katara blinks. Does she remember...

...oh. Yes. She'd talked about going to the clinic and he'd offered to teach her about the medical properties of some plants. "Oh - yes, I remember."

She walks over now, willingly getting into his space and running the risk of letting the warm calm of his presence brush against her unsettled heart. She's more curious about what he has in the box.

She peers curiously at the sacks, her eyes slightly wider than normal. "What is that?" Katara flicks her startled gaze up to him. "Did you bring seed?"

She takes hold of the small plant and cradles it gently in her hands. "Wow."

Katara just - stares as Ginko pulls out more and more seedlings ready to be planted. "Where did you get all of these things?"

He must have been preparing for a while...

She laughs a little. She can't help it. "Um... not too close to the house, I guess. Maybe on the northwest side?"
markofthebrave: (Wry Smile)

And that wins a quick, amused exhalation of breath as Katara feels lighter - and more distracted - than she has in days. "I guess we'll just have to risk it."

She moves forward now towards the plants. "Let me help you carry them outside."
