Summary: Vash found out that Winry is building a new arm for Legato. A warning is in order.

He waited for her to exit the smithy. Thinking over and over what he'd say. Did she just not know who Legato was? If that's the case, it was time she found out who she was really dealing with.

Vash is quiet when he speaks again. "I should have done more."

In severe contrast Winry stands up abruptly, and shouts, "No! No, there was nothing you could have done! I'm not some child who doesn't know any better! Don't treat me like so by saying that. Worrying about what could have happened will only set you even further behind!"

"I don't think you're a child Winry. You were doing what was right by helping him." Vash could never blame or look down at anyone for doing something like that. Never. "It's just that you shouldn't have to be put in danger for doing the right thing."

"Just because it shouldn't happen won't make what does happen go away. What we have to do now is think about the future. Would you rather I not tell him we had this talk?"

Bad things happen to good people - the death of her parents taught her this. But that doesn't mean good people should stop doing the right thing, even if it means they'll be safe.

"That would probably be for the best. He might know we're friends, but if he doesn't it would probably be best if he doesn't find out."

"Then mum's the word."

She holds out her hand for Vash before she leaves. Go ahead, shake it.

He reaches out and gently takes Winry's offered hand.

The girl gives Vash a firm shake before stepping away to leave, "Everything will work out. We just need to keep looking forward."

What's done is done, huh? "I guess so, just... be careful." It sounds weak, but he just doesn't know what else to say.
