What: It wasn't (entirely) Don's fault. Raph doesn't care.
When: Relatively early this morning.
Where: House 55.
Summary: Raph does not approve of Don's behavior during the experiment. He will inform Don of this as soon as he finds him. Ah, there he is.
Rating: ... I'm guessing fairly high.

Don hasn't been home in two days, and it would be too much to hope that this has escaped Raphael's notice. Oh, how the tables have turned. It was always Raph, never Don, who suffered Splinter's wrath for coming home late. But a lot has changed in a year.

He doesn't even bother trying to sneak in a back way. It would only serve to marginally delay his fate. So he goes in the front door, head down, dreading the gauntlet he knows is waiting for him.

He pinches the ridge between his eyes.

"With a friend, nothing happened, I'm fine. Sit down, Leo."

Would've been nice if you showed up five minutes ago, Fearless. But eh, whatever. Raph'll just sit here and drink his coffee.

"Why didn't you call in and let us know where you were?" Leo will sit down as well. He was relieved to see his brother.

"I lost my journal! What is the big deal?"

Leo sighs. "We didn't know where you were. Also we had no contact from you. Just that Raph saw you near that willow tree."

Put that way, Leo's side of things sounds completely reasonable. Don deflates.

"I'm sorry. I lost track of time."

Raph snorts into his coffee. "Yeah, for two days."

He knows he's not one to talk, but at least it's old hat for him. Whenever he doesn't show up, everyone just shrugs and knows he'll come back eventually. But there's something about Don being the same flavor of irresponsible that felt more like the dawn of the Apocalypse. Don just doesn't do that.

But then again, you really can't blame the guy for getting carried away by an event. It happens to the best of them. He's more disappointed that Don just couldn't resist like he and Leo seemed to be able to.

"The important thing is you're safe." He looks at Raph for a moment, then back to Don. "Any idea where your journal could be?"

It's not like he hasn't misplaced whole days before. It's just that usually he does it at home, where anyone can poke their head in his door and see that he's still alive, if on a completely different planet.

"It's probably in my room. I just forgot to take it with me."

Raph just shrugs. He could push it even further and ask Don why he didn't borrow somebody else's, but like Leo said, he's home, he's safe, and that's all that matters.

"Glad I didn't get caught up in that crud. Everybody was actin' stupid. I thought Winry was gonna try and kiss me. I told her to beat it."

He says that with a little more pride than he ought to, considering he was hyperventilating and hiding behind a tree when it happened. But hey, a turtle can dream, can't he?

"No body tried to kiss me." He looks relieved. "Had a few trying to get me under that tree. Or try to hug me." Which is strange idea in of itself. "I managed to escape them." And retreat back to the house.

Don shifts uncomfortably. No one tried to kiss him either, but someone did plenty of other things that his mind is still classifying under pleasant, desirable, wanted.

He glances around surreptitiously, trying to see whether he might be excused from the conversation soon.

Raph can't help but chuckle at the idea of Leo getting hounded by love drunk lunatics. Man, he wishes he was there to see that. "Glad you're puttin' those ninja skills to work, Leo."

He tilts his chair backward, balancing it easily on two legs. The grin doesn't leave his face.

Leo gives Raph a look for a moment, before he grins a little. "It was good practice." Practicing in dodging crazy people, just like old times. Don's shifting turns his attention to their brainiac brother though.

"Don?"

Don looks up, a little guiltily. Are they not done lecturing him yet?

Raph turns his attention back to eyeballing his brother. Awkwaaaaaard.

"Something wrong?" There goes Leo again with worrying. Something must of happened for him to be acting like this.

He looks away again. "Nothing. Can I go?"

Leo can tell there's more. But the asking can wait.

"Yeah you can go."

Don stands up in an uncharacteristically jerky movement, hesitates for one second, and hurries away to his room. He has a lot to think about, and this surely won't be the last awkward conversation he has with his brothers. He needs to sort out his thoughts and feelings, and he needs to wait - wait to see if there's more to what happened over the weekend, or whether it was truly just an effect of the Shift.

"In a few days, if you still feel anything..."

It will be a very long few days.

Raph quits messing with his chair and finishes his coffee, watching Don frantically leave the room. What the heck is his deal?

"So you gonna talk to him, or should I?"

Leo watches Donny run off before he looks to Raph. "Did he tell you anything about the friend?" He means before he arrived.

He pushes away from the table and gets up to put the cups in the sink.

"Nope. Haven't got a clue."

Then he stops, realization hitting him like a truck. "Wonder if it was that wimpy kid in the lab coat."

He snorts in disgust and turns on the tap.

"Right." He says, not quite believing him. He looks thoughtful for a moment, before he looks up at the snort.

"What kid in lab coat?"

He shakes his head and goes back to washing the mugs out.

"Nothin'. Just some kid I saw Don with by that magic tree."
