[Derek definitely has the hang of his wings by now.

Today, that means that instead, he's trying to learn how to hover, dive, and land. Because he's still pretty much a train wreck in that regard. Sudden stop at the end and all that.

So here he, hovering in one place while he stares at the ground near the river, looking for sign of snake or rabbit. And generally not quite aware of the rest of his surroundings.]

[My, that is a much bigger shadow, circling around in that area. It appears he's not the only one looking for a good place to land.]

[Derek will glance at that shadow, and then look up.

...what...?

He makes a startled squawk when he recognizes the face...but what's with the wings?

He'll fly after, chirping to get her attention.]

[Huh, what? Katara halts her forward motion and spreads out her wings, hovering.

...well. What kind of hawk has Luceti wings as well? Must be part of the experiment...]

[Derek will catch up to her and then hover, making greeting sounds.

He even says 'Hello Katara'...but, yeah. So far, no one has been able to understand him that way except Giles, so he's not expecting a response.]

Sorry - it doesn't look like the translator's working.

[So Katara peers closer to see if she can recognize the bird by any other means.]

[Well, the Luceti wings tucked in between the other two actually look like a second set of hawk wings, and if Katara pays that close attention to her friends...she might remember that Derek's wings are marked like that.

Otherwise? They're out of luck.

For his part, Derek will make a quiet, but irritated squawk.]

Yeah, that's its annoying. I mean, the translators will work on the regular animals, but not on us when we turn into them? That's far from fair.

Problem of course, is getting that fact across...and Derek isn't about to try and explain that one in mid-flight.

Instead, he'll make a series of quiet chirps. Yes, yes he has.]

[It's slightly odd to talk to someone like this - having no idea who they are. In the air.]

[Another quiet chirp, and a careful twitch of his wings meant to imitate a shrug. It wasn't so bad, really. And...yes. Sunlight.

In fact, he'll look up at the sun at that point and make a pleased trill. He'd really been missing it.]

[Katara understands not the meaning, but gets a general understanding of the feeling behind that.]

Yeah, I guess it has its pluses. [She spreads her wings out a bit.] Flying's not so bad.
