Getting better? What do you mean?

[Because getting better means that it was bad at some point.]

There were just a few adjustments that I've had to accept earlier in the week. At least now that it's almost over, I realize there are a few things I can learn from the experience.

Really? Like what? [Katara's always curious about learning things.]

[wise_maiden]

I remembered that hiding or denying a part of myself doesn't change who I am, regardless of what it may seem like in the eyes of others. But it's a lot easier to accept in theory rather than practice. [She tugs that odd cloak a little closer to her.] I suppose it's a bit silly.

[Katara shakes her head.] That doesn't sound silly to me at all.

[After all... and she lowers her voice a little.] Like this, I haven't had my bending. It kind of makes you think.

[wise_maiden]

[She nods in understanding.]

I haven't been able to use my magic, either. [And then there's that change to her physical looks... similar and yet not. That made it stranger.]

That's the kind of stuff... that feels like it could change us. If it stays this way for long.

[wise_maiden]

What kind of change do you mean?

[markofthebrave]

It's hard to explain. [A hand goes up to her necklace.] But don't you feel like our abilities are part of what makes us who we are? Like our memories. If they change, then we change a little too.

[wise_maiden]

[When put in those terms, it does strike home a little. It ties into thoughts she's always had--and had either acknowledged or set aside due to Luceti's nature.] ... Fair enough. We are a sum of all our parts, so even our abilities would factor into that, in some way... though I suppose the weight of that would depend on the individual. To those who don't have them at all, the view might be different.

[But she remembers the kidnapping which sealed her powers well, not to mention that feeling whenever going into the tunnels. And the effects of this experiment were rather alien to her as well, though it brings interesting questions to the table.]

[Katara shrugs a little.] Well, one way or another, even if we change it doesn't mean we're not still who we are. Even if it doesn't always feel like it - we're like water.

[wise_maiden]

It's very similar to a phrase that a student of mine often said. "You're still you".

Yet not many would be satisfied with such an answer.
