Where: In the detention center for kidnapped peoples.
Summary: Interacting in the same cell, in neighboring cells, etc. Feel free to be creative.
Rating: Probably high due to horrors

[Shikamaru scoots himself up against the cell door, angling his head to get a better view of the guy.]

Heh. Think you might be out of tune there.

Hmm? [Squinting, trying to sit up a bit, banging his knee hard on one of the bars without noticing, lying back down.] Isscha cage. Don't...whozzat?

[Definitely drugged. He makes himself comfortable - comfortable as he can, at least - and leans against the bars.]

Shikamaru. Long time no see, Archie.

Schi...Schi... [He gives up, curling up on the bottom of the cage. He's sort of diagonal from where Shikamaru is. At least the cage is big enough to curl up in.] Don' talk. Bees.

['Bees'? He mouths the word, confused, before understanding hits him. Please.

He sticks one hand low and out between the bars of his cell, flashing a thumbs-up sign.]

[No, he actually meant bees. Because he hears them. They've been testing various drugs on him that will blitz his brain to the point where he won't remember any of this, and something in there is causing him to hear bees. He covers his ears and goes very still for a while.

After a moment he stirs suddenly, banging the same knee.]

[Shikamaru continues to watch him, wondering just what the hell they gave him. When Kennedy covers his ears, he begins to wonder if maybe he did hear him right the first time and frowns.]

Come again? [Because. There's no making heads or tails of that one.]

[That wasn't Horatio's voice. Must be one he's imagining. No, someone's there, talking to him. It's a real voice; it's familiar, but he can't quite place it. Young. One of the mids? No, he's not there anymore. This is a real place, even though he doesn't want it to be. He closes his eyes again. There are no walls here. Everything is open.]

No walls. None. Don't...don't worry about me.

Okay. [He will anyways, but he can keep that to himself.]

You ever had mackerel, Archie?

[He's not sure how lucid he is, but he can tell from his body language that something's off. The least he can do for him is try to get his mind off it... if he can follow a train of thought.]

[His lips smack--he's thirsty. Not sober enough to be hungry, though. His head and stomach are both filled with wool. Mackerel. No, thank you, but that was not the question. Kennedy nods, very belatedly. He's had it.]

It's my favorite food. [Offered as an explanation. He gives a small grin, but doubting Kennedy will see it, speaks with a joking tone.] What, not to your tastes?

[That is a much, much harder question to answer. That requires opinion and therefore thought and memory. An arm is thoughtlessly flung out and brushes the bars of the cage. Archie gives a weak shout, withdrawing it; the reminder that he cannot spread his arms without touching walls brings a certain sharpness back, but only briefly as mental defenses are added to the drugs. No panic. No walls. There was a question. What was the question?

The question the question the question MACKEREL has he had it yes do you like mackerel. Mackerel is the one that looks so and it is very small and sometimes it was salted and kept on the ship. It smelled funny when it wasn't fresh, but it was all right.]

[He winces at the yelp and was about to ask if he was all right when he went ahead and answered the question. All right. All right. Carry on, then.]

That's good. Can't respect a man who doesn't at least like it. [Shikamaru pokes at the plate the droids brought earlier - no mackerel here. He wonders when they'll come to cuff him again.] Not your favorite dish, though, I'm guessing.

[He shakes his head now, unaware that the boy has limited view of him. Also, bees. There are more of them now, and they're buzzing in tune to the Cosi fan Tutte overture, complete with parts. Still, that's kind of entertaining, so he won't complain.]

[Too bad, because someone's not about to give up on keeping his attention off whatever's going on in his head.]

You gonna tell me what is? Guessing games aren't really my thing.

[He curls up tighter. Cannot feel the walls. No food, please, he's thirsty.] I don't know.

R-red. I think. Sometimes. Sometimes blue, sometimes yellow. Color, I like color. [He doesn't like darkness. He likes stimuli, visual interest.]

Primary colors. Those are cool. [Color color. Let's think of something with color.] There's this friend of mine? He used to wear nothing but orange - bright enough to make your ears hurt. Try and picture that, Archie.

Nothing but... [Shikamaru's words are starting to have an odd echo in Archie's ears. It's very distracting ,and he has to focus to answer questions.] Bright enough to make your ears hurt?

[The bees are buzzing harder even as his speech is less slurred.]

It's a joke. Something's real bright, your eyes hurt, yeah? [Voice is calm, relaxed even though he feels the opposite.] This orange is so bright your ears hurt instead.

[He raises an eyebrow; hopes that means he's keeping Kennedy's attention.]

He's toned it down some, thankfully, but the idiot still wears a lot of it. But you get used to it, I guess. Orange isn't that bad of a color, don't you think?
