Captain Jack Sparrow ([personal profile] all7seas) wrote in [community profile] lucetilogs2011-08-25 01:15 pm

What Shall We (hopefully not) Die For?

Who: Captain Jack Sparrow, Sokka Thunderaxe, Glitch the Headcase, Suki The-Future-Mrs-Thunderaxe, Toph Bei Fong, Katie McCoy, Fox Mulder (possibly??? WOULDN'T IT BE AWESOME IF THERE WAS FOX MULDER IN THIS???), OTHER RANDOM CHARACTERS WHO WANT TO TAG IN (Hornblower? Law? Summers? McCoy? McCloud?)
What: Hijacking one of these. Because a pirate is a pirate is a pirate.
When: Day 2 of the Draft--Battle at Sea--Evening
Where: Somewhere in the Ocean outside the Barrier
Summary: Defending a Cargo Ship Turns Into Something Much More Better
Rating: H for Hijacking

Cutler Beckett's Mum chugged steadily on through the sea. Jack Sparrow rested his chin against her cold metal railing and stared moodily into the horizon.

This should be the cargo ship's name, he reasoned, because of her plain features and giant ungainly size. Long metal corridors. Luxurious, hotel-like quarters. Machine smells. Oil smells. Droids clanking about. It was true that the hold was brimming with highly interesting crates, but a man got thrown out on his face for daring to inspect or touch or trying to open them.

Barring the time he'd served on the Queen Anne's Revenge, this had to be the worst assignment the pirate had ever endured due to the sheer boredom and accompanying restlessness.

Two droid sailors clanked past, and Jack made a face at them; nearby, a group of noncombatants were huddled on deck, playing checkers. He made another face and turned back to watch the horizon. There hadn't been an attack since yesterday afternoon, and even that had been handily stopped by the two sailing escorts that plowed proudly through the waters on either side of Beckett's Mum. He could almost hear their fresh white sails snapping from here. He wondered what Kennedy was up to under Hornblower's command and scowled.

Oh, Norrington kept him running about on various tedious assignments, but without a ship to sail there wasn't a lot he could do. So Jack had settled himself the task of watching over noncombatants while trying to look like that was not what he was doing. And watching the horizon, of course. Watching it greedily: the blue, cloudless, lovely sky arcing over a choppy steel-blue sea.

The weather. The weather; we're in for somethin' nasty.

That was when he spotted it: something like a cloud and a balloon and a model ship, coming up astern and steadily gaining on them with the advantage of the wind. Quickly the pirate took out the binoculars that Buffy had gotten him for Christmas. He focused in and confirmed it: an enemy ship approaching. This one looked smaller than some of those that had attacked yesterday; not much larger than the Interceptor had been, really.

That meant she was fast---a scout ship, likely. They wouldn't have much time, what with Beckett's Mum chugging along like a musk ox.

Mister Sparrow had to do his duty by Admiral James Norrington and sound the alarm. Get the signals sent up so that Law and Hornblower could take care of this approaching danger. Herd the noncombatants away from their checkerboard for the space of the battle.

.............Ooooor did he? They had capable people on this ship. People who could be spared for a bit of fun and profit. Pirate-y profit. Since when was he slavishly beholden to Admiral Norrington? Since when did Captain Jack Sparrow "check in" with an officer of the Navy?

Scurry, Jacky-boy, Teague whispered.

"Aye, dad," Jack replied as a feral grin crossed his face. "Think I just might."

[OOC: Feel free not to prose if you don't want to. I AM GOING TO. But you don't have to.

We can assume that after spotting the flying ship, Jack has gathered together the people on deck whom he thinks will make a good boarding party: Sokka, Suki, Toph (AIR IS NOT HER ELEMENT), Glitch (WHY), Mulder (MAYBE), and Katie. There is not a lot of time for strategizing. There is only time for action---the action of sneaky, subtle, sabateuring pirates.

I am assuming Sokka will be strategizing the ship's capture on the fly with Jack. I'm also assuming that Katie might help with glamors and that Mulder, Suki, and Toph will be all awesome covert-ops (MAYBE---IF THERE IS A MULDER. I DON'T YET KNOW.) Glitch will be Glitching and trying not to die, but once aboard he could be their mechanical genius who can help get control of the ship. Jack will run his horrifying pirate boxer shorts up the mast to signal that they have successfully taken the enemy ship.

For the love of God, don't shoot them down from the sky. FRIENDLIES. THEY'RE FRIENDLIES.

Best bet? Players post with your character and indicate what they are doing in the action. Other characters can tag in, party-style. There can be threadjacking. GOOD LUCK GENTLEMEN. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU AND THE WIND ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK AND THE RUM NEVER GONE.]

ETA: Characters are not STUCK on this ship for the whole draft. Feel free to be elsewhere at other times. orz

Bored? Yeah, that was pretty accurate for Mulder. This did beat out the last significant ship voyage he'd been on, and he was keeping alert to help protect the non combatants when needed. But right now... nothing much was going on. He glanced out at the water, stubbornly hoping to see some sea monsters. It was fine if they kept their distance, he just wanted to get a glimpse of something.

Glitch wasn't so much bored as hopelessly out of his element. At least he'd finally gained some sort of steady footing, and the checkers had been providing some decent distraction, so he could maybe pretend all was right with the world.

The spell was broken when someone sprinted past him up the deck. Sprinting tended to mean trouble, and while his survival instincts told him to find the nearest route below his curiosity...had other ideas. So he scampered after Sparrow, hoping to maybe Learn Things.

"What's going on?"

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-08-26 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, he didn't try to call him Fox, at least?

"It's Mulder... and, hm. I've played some pretty cutthroat games of Battleship, does that count?"

Mulder glanced up. Something was there. Still a ways off, but... it was gaining on them, from the look of it. He returned his attention to the pirate captain, he was good about putting two and two together.

"What exactly are you planning?"

"We are? What bo-" And he looked up and gasped, boggling. "But that's..."

Dangerous? Terrifying? Probably beyond his capabilities? Yes, all of that, but most importantly:

"That's so cool. Um. How?"

[identity profile] banditsblindly.livejournal.com 2011-08-26 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Toph can feel the frame of the thing come into her field of "vision"--a massive flying ship? Okay, wait a second. Was her metally magic wigging out on her now? That couldn't actually be what was up there, was it?

Then again, she spent months flying around on a sky bison, so yeah, there were stranger things.

Just to check, she pulls in a balled fist, and a very minor screw comes unfastened from the flying ship, landing gently in her open palm.

"Flying ships? You've gotta be kidding me!" Because ships on water weren't bad enough, apparently.

Oh, but science and subterfuge sound like a solid starting place; Glitch had snuck into a sorceress' tower with less of a plan. He followed Sparrow's gaze to the grappling hook and grinned, then shook his head.

"I I don't think we can do it with just that and us two, we're gonna need more help." Still he sidled over to...appropriate the hook and rope. Tools are excellent and all that.

Glitch, with grappling hook and rope looped over one shoulder, poked his beaky nose into the conversation.

"Yes! Flying!" His somewhat vacant grin faltered at that, veering towards a grimace. "W-with altitudes and trajectories and stuff. Um."

Right.

Evening. Approaching the hour of twilight - just about when the cloudless sky was getting ready to exchange its raiment of blue for one of fire. The white sails of (The Defiant) Ship B are tinged the slightest bit pink.

Law refuses to squint, even when his eyes get assaulted by the glare reflecting off the water. He is in hunting mode, focused on what hangs in the air.

Now, to knock it from the sky before it gets in range of the cargo vessel.

He opens his mouth to give the order and --

What the devil are they doing over there?

-- then snaps it shut and scowls.

Bloody hell. Are they trying to get themselves killed by friendly fire?

"Right." Glitch did one of his puppety little nods and loops the rope over his left (and therefore good) shoulder. At the question about being armed he...made the face of a reluctant pacifist, but lifted his right foot. "Knife here, a-a-and--" He patted his chest, having stashed a leather case of small tools in his inside coat pocket. "Tools. I I guess a screwdriver could be handy in a pinch."

What's this? Her reputation precedes her? Marvelous! She grins and tosses the screw between her hands.

But...then what he says settles in, and she lifts an eyebrow. "Really? You want the blind girl to help you steal a flying ship?"

"Oh, good, cuz I I I don't wanna kill anything with anything else." Glitch shook his head, lips pursed. "So yeah, let's...not be noticed. Quick and and sneaky with the boat-taking."

[Airship hijacking? Where has Suki heard of this before?

Feeling very much in her element, Suki tears her way through the enemy ranks, leaping and bouncing over heads to attack the wings of the Third Party soldiers. They had something of an advantage, usually, but in the confines of the airship's lower decks, there was no room to fly. Clearing the ship of all enemies should be a simple task for a group with their skills. And with no powers or technology assisting her, they couldn't give her any handicaps.

And this airship has weapons they can use! With this, they'll be sure to do more damage.]

[For all of Sokka's hard training, he wasn't quite the acrobat Suki was. And by that, it meant he wasn't one at all. So rather than bouncing over them, Sokka had the rather messy business of moving through the corridor on foot, cutting down the soldiers as he passed, narrowly avoiding their blows, and finishing off any that his initial blows didn't finish.]

Okay, so, actually taking over a TP ship is a lot harder than a Fire Nation one. Falling for the birthday ruse was a little too much to ask for.

[identity profile] ufo-fanboy.livejournal.com 2011-08-27 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"So we're talking an improvised hijacking mission?"

The prospect of flying on one of those was majorly tempting. Getting up there, and sticking it to the enemy at the same time... Mulder could get down with that. He could also get down with making the plan up as they went along. Some of his own plans often went like that, to Scully's dismay. He glanced at the newcomer, offering him a brief grin on seeing he looked well equipped.

"...That, I can do. Count me in."

[identity profile] banditsblindly.livejournal.com 2011-08-27 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, she can't blame him for wanting her on his team, even if it made little sense. Still, she has something to point out that's a bit glaring.

"...You know I can't throw rocks right now, right? Malnosso changed me. But I can throw metal. Which is probably more helpful anyway."
