What: The long-anticipated mother of boxing matches, baby. Details here.
When: Today, in the afternoon.

Round 1

If there was one thing Mac definitely had over Luffy in the ring, it was experience. Luffy had only one ‘real’ boxing match in his life, and that could barely be considered a real boxing match. As much as his opponent cheated in that fight, it held no resemblance to an official bout of any kind. And now that Luffy was finally in the ring he actually felt pretty restricted. The ring was so small compared to the large open spaces Luffy had grown used to fighting in. Jungles, deserts. Hell, even most boats were many many times the size of this small arena. Would the match really be over if he just accidentally stumbled and fell out of this tiny thing? When the bell dings, it near-instantly snaps him out of whatever train of thought he was having and he glances over at Mac. He looked serious.

The now afro haired boy could tell from that moment that boxing was definitely something Mac took very seriously. Normally he was a pretty light-hearted guy, but here in the ring the aura around him changed. Luffy does a small grin to himself before putting up his fists in a more boxing like pose. This was going to be a fun match. Even if Mac didn’t have the incredible super powers like the guys he was used to facing, he was still strong. Or at the very least he had strong will and determination. When Mac closes the distance and throws the first punch, Luffy is actually pretty surprised at his speed. He wasn’t super human speed, but he was faster than he had anticipated. Unfortunately, he isn’t taken back enough to let the ‘Balboa of the Bronz’ get a free shot in. So he leans his body to the left to dodge it. The problem with the dodge that Mac might notice off the bat is that Luffy also leaned back a little too. And when he launches his right fist at Mac’s face, it…

Doesn’t connect. Or barely connects. Either way it’s not going to do any real damage. even if it does. And that’s when it hits Luffy; he doesn’t have his rubber ability here. In his entire life he has never been in an actual fight without his ability to stretch being present. He’s grown used to being able to hit the opponent whether they are two feet away or twenty yards away. And it’s at this instant that he realizes that he has not gotten used to fighting without his powers yet. He thought it wouldn’t be a big deal at first, but now he realizes that he has to practically change the entire mindset that he’s learned to adapt to for over the past decade. And with his first punch of the match being off, he’s left himself open for a free blow from Mac.

Round 1

Luffy grunted in pain as the blow connected to his side. It was strange. It’s been so long since he has actually taken a legitimate blunt blow and it actually hurt him. Usually there would need to be Haki involved to even phase him without a sharp weapon. But still, pain was something that was not unfamiliar to Luffy. So it doesn’t take long for him to recover and bring his forearms up to block Mac’s incoming uppercut. It’s just barely though, as the punch still almost manages to break through.

It’s at this point that Luffy starts to regain his footing and composure. He’s not in a position to attack again just yet, but he keeps his guard up in order to counter Mac’s next onslaught.

Round 1

Luffy’s first instinct was to try to dodge or block it. And at first he was going to swiftly make the motion to do so. But he stopped himself when he realized that being defensive and evasive wasn’t going to get him anywhere. He had already taken one hit. Two wasn’t going to make too big of a difference. As he’s throwing his hook Mac might notice Luffy dropping his guard into a more offensive stance. He takes the blow from Mac, but it only causes a deep, serious frown to form on his face. He doesn’t allow himself to grunt or flinch or even acknowledge it outside of that. Sure, it hurt. A lot. But he wasn’t going to let that stop him. He was determined to get a hit in.

Right after the blow connects Luffy quickly steps forward and starts to unload a fury of punches and jabs at the smaller boxer. They lacked in finesse, but they were quick, and if any connected, they would hit hard. Even if Mac dodged or parried a majority of them, Luffy wasn’t planning on giving him a lot of room to breathe. Even if it meant taking more hits.

Round 1

Luffy wasn’t planning on letting up on the assault anytime soon. He didn’t do a lot of thinking during his fights, but instinctively he knew the moment he started to slow down and get confident would be the point where Mac turned the entire situation around on him. So he keeps up the assault for a good while. But that’s the problem with an endless assault like this. You get a lot of damage in but eventually, you’re going to have to breathe. And it doesn’t take very long for Luffy to start to feel that realization. He keeps up the onslaught as much as he can before he feels his lungs going low on oxygen. He knows if he breathes he’s screwed.

But he can’t continue. So after a few more punches he stops his attack long enough to take a deep breath and fill his lungs.

Round 1

He knew he had messed up the moment he breathed in. But he didn’t expect Mac to aim for his liver. He was bracing himself for the face or maybe his chest. But the force of his glove slamming into him was enough of a shock to stun his movement. It wasn’t the strongest hit he had ever taken but it was definitely a form of attack he wasn't used to taking. He lets out a breathless gasp and for now he’s stunned enough that he’s not really thinking about retaliating. It’ll only be for about half a second or two but it’s enough time for Mac to get a free hit.

Round 1

The punch to his liver had actually made him zone out for a bit—however small that time may have been-- and he couldn’t react. He knew the punch was coming but it was going to come too fast. And there was no way he was going to actually be able to react before it hit. So he flinched preparing to take the punch head on when all of a sudden… he stopped. That was the other thing that his first boxing match didn’t have. Rounds. It was all just one very long round.

He remained still even after he saw Mac go over to his appropriate corner. But eventually he manages to snap himself out of his gaze and goes over to his corner as well. He was starting to become used to fighting without his rubber powers now. In his mind he thought the next round he was going to do better than this one. He got caught off guard way too many times.
