fleurdesel: left, sad, serious, angry, (Thinking this through)

If death frightened you I would demand you forfeit your last name and heritage.

[Adele shrugs, looking away for a moment as she tries to remember exactly how it was she ended as a private surgeon to most of Paris' criminals.] The Angel of the Underworld. That is what they called me. I think it was the hair, not my skill with a scalpel. [A soft chuckle.] It was...a smart business move at first, yes? I had debts that needed paying and they would pay a little extra so long as I was discreet. After awhile I had regular clients, because jobs do not always go smooth. So there was a...familiarity? Camaraderie. I knew of their families, of why they did what they did, and they continued to trust me to be discreet.

[Mostly with Degas and his men, Remy and his boys, Ariette and the girls she employed. It had been a strange, dysfunctional little crime family, but it had worked for everyone involved.]
