Make A Wish!!

Who: Everyone Ever
What: Tanabata + 2nd Cross Pageant
When: July 7th, 7:30PMish onward
Where: Outside the Brigade HQ: Pageant Stage In the Plaza in front of House 37 (which no one lives in right now)
Summary: First it's the Cross Pageant, then the normal Tanabata stuff the Brigade does such as supplying bamboo to tie wishes to and fireworks. Some food and drink supplied

[Tanabata in the form of few sub-threads below! There's going to be four:

One, for people performing in the pageant, details will be in the top comment of the subthread, but this one if for people to make direct responses to their appeals as well as to write out what they were and what they do.

Two, for general mingling during the pageant. For the judges and audience and all that jazz.

Three, for the wishes people write up for Tanabata - eighter just to note them or for people to spy on your writing them or tying them up or reacting to them once up or whatever!

Four, finally, is at the end of the night when there are fireworks being launched to go with all this stuff, for people to mingle/watch the show

Good evening, everyone~! Brought to you by the SOS Brigade, it’s the event you’ve all been waiting for...! Luceti’s second annual Cross Pageant!

[There's a wait for applause here. Hopefully there is some. If there isn't, Haruhi will try to promt some herself, next to Azausa on stage]

As you all know, Haruhi Suzumiya is one of our hostesses tonight, and I’ll be joining her as well. [She pauses.] My, my, but that would make us co-hosts tonight, wouldn’t it? Not co-hostesses. I’ve never worn a tuxedo before, but I hope you’ll support all of our contestants, your hosts included! Make sure to cheer for your favorites, alright~?

[And with that charming introduction from our own Azusa Miura, the contest begins! There's actually ~~probably~~ more boys than there are girls but the way it works is thus:
1) It alternates between boys and girls. Boy, then girl, then boy. Etc. Unless they wanted to do some special act ~~like twincest~~ that demands more than one person.
2) Each contestant goes out in their chosen (cross dressy) outfit. Once there they get an upwards of three minutes on the stage to say things, perform something small, pose, whatever they want to make what Haruhi will call an Appeal.
3) While they are doing that the co-MCs might be making slight witty commentary, particularly if it's quiet one

Outfits can either have been taken to the pageant or put onto the participants backstage. As Haruhi noted, Shiki is assisting and thus there are a pleathora of extra attire for people. It would of course be preferred that people brought their own outfits though.

tl;dr: Contestants reply here and do there thang. If people have direct reactions thread them out here chatting or hitting people up when they get offstage or whatever. All in good fun.

[See all those people being pretty?! Now you can talk about them! Are you in the audience, one of the judges?! (Incidentally, the five judges are Oswald, Brigade represent, Yuri, asked specifically, Misato, volunteered, Minato, also volunteered, and Lupin, Haruhi realized they had an even number and thus just picked some random person.) Either way! Watch, be amazed, judge!

NOTE: there will be a follow up OOC vote to get the judge's scores for people as well as the popular vote of people in the audience for both gender brackets, and the voting/scoring would be known of ICly if you want to play with that

[Time to make some wishes! As per every Tanabata celebration done by the Brigade you get two which you write on a small slip of paper and then tie around a branch on one of the shoots supplied by them, even angled correctly! (or fauxly given the lack of stars in the sky seen out of the barrier but oh well). What will you wish for?! Go for it!! Bonus points if you were cute yukatas]

[It's the end of the night! Nothing but stars and fireworks here! Maybe some snacks an drinks leftover too. Gotta love fireworks! Why don't you mingle as you watch them? After all they are bright and loud and colorful, possibly romantic.]

[Hiro knows what he's wishing for. On his slip of paper, he writes, "I wish that whatever world I help make will be a world where everyone can find happiness." It's a bit of a mouthful, but hey, you ought to cover all your bases when making a wish! Once it is written down, he ties it to a bamboo shoot and stares at it for a moment, satisfied with this year's wish.]

[Fireworks are usually Gambit's thing. Stuff blowing up is always his idea of fun. Except for today, his heart really isn't in it. A mixture of annoyance with Luceti, homesickness, and these fireworks reminding him of setting them off with Jubilee has left him oddly hollow.

Which doesn't mean he's going to let on about it, of course. Enjoying a beer while watching fireworks is hardly out of the ordinary.]

[Lupin didn't expect to be reeled into being a judge for this event when he stealthily snuck in to sign Adele Leblanc up earlier in the day, but he wasn't complaining. It was a small act of revenge for antics that happened earlier in the week...and it would be a fun opportunity to alleviate the familiar boredom that was starting to settle in.

He's just nonchalantly lounging in his seat, appearing as cool and comfortable as he normally would to people he didn't know. The only major differences that distant acquaintances would notice would be the distinct lack of jacket in his attire and (gasp) the fact that his sleeves were rolled up. Closer companions would notice the glasses he was wearing, and the odd stillness to his posture...

Regardless, he's there to relax and have fun.]

[The fireworks were Lupin's thing as well, as evidenced by his continued presence at the festivities as the night wore on. He wasn't going to let recent happenings get in the way of his enjoyment of life, but recent happenings left him wondering about the choices he's made and about how much longer he would be within the enclosure.

The worries were pushed aside when he cracked open a bottle of beer and joined Gambit. He was smoking again, and the way he leaned against the tree was almost too casual, but his smile was there for more than just show.]

Pity we didn't have this a few days ago, huh? I understand that Independence Day celebrations in the States are pretty spectacular.

[Remy gives a lazy salute to Lupin with his beer by way of greeting. There probably isn't much point in trying to con a con, but he keeps up his usual lopsided grin anyhow. Getting into Issues with Lupin would probably be a fantastically bad idea.]

You're damn right. Always went all-out wit' the celebrations in N'awlins. But late fireworks're better'n none at all, non?

[Winry, age 19 and a long time resident of Luceti, shows up on stage wearing her outfit like this, but it actually is made up of clothing that's a little more classy. Winry walks up to the judges, and holds her hands on her hips as a pose. She'd rather just walk back now, but as not to catch any flak from Haruhi because her lack of enthusiasm she gives a wink to the judges before waiting to get the cue to exit.]

[Lupin returns the gesture and drinks deeply, glad for some hint of normalcy. All of his friends were being extra careful around him for one reason for another, and he was getting tired of the not-so-subtle looks of concern he caught from the sidelines. There wasn't a point in conning a con, but Lupin was doing the same.

How long can the conmen keep it up?]

Any fireworks is better than none--this would be a pretty lame summer without them. Speaking of fire...did 'Nita-chan ever have her party?

[For his part, Gambit means to try to keep up the con as long as he can, although he's absolutely certain it's pointless. Lupin's practically one of the guys from the Guild back home. He's sure to be able to see straight through the act, but he's relying on the unspoken code not to let on about it all the same.]

Anita? Oui. Good ol' bayou-style bonfire. If we're all still stuck here come Mardi Gras next year, I t'ink we might have enough people here to actually keep it int'restin'.

[Swig of beer.] ...'Course. Let's hope it don't come to that.

[There is honor amongst thieves. Lupin did notice the odd melancholy, and is counting on Gambit's silence himself. Maybe one day, when the problems weren't so raw, neither of them would have to be concerned.]

Man, sorry I missed it! Been jonesing for some good Cajun food lately. That and some beignets...it's hard to find non-Japanese food around here sometimes!

Maybe we could have another bonfire night sometime sooner? We can't count on even time around here.

[Joshua... honestly isn't sure how in the world he ended up involved in this. He certainly didn't sign himself up, and he doesn't recall seeing anyone else ask for him to be signed up, but lo and behold, it happened anyway. He can't say he's amused, but... maybe he can at least focus on this as a distraction of sorts from recent events.

It's not as if this is that much worse than the play at the Jenis Royal Academy was, anyway.

After the boy's name is called, the one making his way onto the stage with his head bowed could very, very easily be mistaken for an actual girl were it not for the nature of the pageant, and not just because of the maid outfit he's wearing. Even if he seems to be hiding his face from the audience for the time being, the long raven hair already does a good job at making him appear even more feminine, and even the way he walks would be befitting for an actual maid.

It's when he reaches the middle of the stage that he halts for a moment, turning away entirely from the audience as he does--

--only to suddenly twirl around in a movement accompanied by a small shower of sparkles (or rather, the healing droplets of water created by casting Tearal), followed by a small curtsy once he faces the audience again and finally culminating with a simple, gentle smile. It's pretty clear now that he was likely just avoiding facing the audience earlier for the sake of adding to the appeal.

It's a reasonably simple appeal when it comes down to it, but right now, he definitely prefers something like this over saying anything. That's not to say he won't react should someone address him, but he'll mostly just keep quiet until he's given the cue to leave the stage again.]

[Remy stops mid-swig and fights down a laugh with a derisive snort.] You ain't kiddin', homme. I like sushi much as the other guy, but a man can't live on fish forever.

[You need alligator in there somewhere, too.

He mulls over the idea of the bonfires for a moment in silence. They wouldn't exactly be too hard to organize, but he's starting to wonder if making half of these friendships isn't just asking for more trouble. Something to mull over more later.]

Well, we got all summer for bonfires. [A small spark of mischief reaches his eyes.] I might have mercy on you an' make you some gumbo 'fore then, but you'll owe me.

[If your character is unwillingly involved in this pageant, chances are Grune is to blame. Uh. Sorry. But she's just so excited to be involved, she simply couldn't understand why everyone wouldn't want to participate!

That excitement shows through as she takes the stage, dressed in a formal outfit ~~(top left image apologies for tininess Legendia is hard to image-hunt for)~~ from the Legacy that she managed to track down in one of the shops. The jacket...prooooobably isn't closing very well, given Grune's figure, but she tried. ...She forgot to take off her veil, though. And she's still wearing her usual light make-up. What was this about crossdressing?

And, well. The concept of an Appeal? Has gone entirely over her head. What she got out of whatever explanation she was given was that she should talk to the audience and the judges, and so that's what she's going to do. Good luck trying to nudge her into something else!]

Thank you for coming, everyone! Tanabata is such a nice holiday, and Haruhi and everyone did such a good job getting the celebration ready!

I'm owing a lot of people for a lot of things lately, so what's one more?

[It wasn't a status that he liked, but it was there. Chuckling, he salutes Gambit with his own bottle before taking a hearty draught, drowning his displeasure with the alcohol. There would be a fire and gumbo in his future--best focus on that instead of the building debts.]

[Yeah Hayate is not happy about being signed up for this at all, but he would have felt worse backing out, so... Better make the best of it, right?! Or at least try to, anyway. Which is why he goes up wearing a certain maid outfit (right) which is more familiar to him than he'd like it to be. But whatever...!

As for posing for the judges, welp. He'll certainly uh. Work it and make all sorts of cutesy and winky poses. ...Yeaaah.

And then once he gets his cue to exit, he'll do so etc. etc.]

[The sentiment behind that is clear as day to him, but Gambit leaves it alone. Owing debts - ones you actually intend to pay back - is not something that comes easily to a thief, he knows. Hell, he's got a few of those floating around from his time here too. More than he'd care to acknowledge.

And so instead, he grins.]

That's the spirit. Gonna be real good gumbo, too. You might haveta feed Olivier for a week.

[Joking. Always joking. It's so much easier.]

I'll even babysit him too, if you want.

[Because jokes were a shield, and the perfect means of deflecting suspicion away from the true problem...even if it was unhealthy. Bad men stumble onto bad habits, but at least this one wasn't very dangerous.]

...I can't believe you still have that thing. Spawn of that Hell Couch, right?

[Gambit gives a low snort, shaking his head.] That's him, alright. Only still got it 'cause I can't get rid of it. Always shows up again sooner'r later. An' nothin' kills it.

[And oh, how he's tried to kill it. Which might sound horrible to anyone who doesn't know that the stupid thing is basically dryer lint from Hell.]

[Hiro is watching the pageant with a goofy grin on his face. The one guy he's seen so far didn't do too bad, but the girls looked great! (Especially Grune.) This is shaping up to be one of the better Tanabata festivals he's been to.]

Well...at least you know it won't die if you blow up your apartment?

[Looking at the positive--and no, after that couch? Lupin doesn't see the attempted murder as anything horrible. Olivier's...mother was horrible!]

[ Ikki probably asked one of Avatar House to lift her up so she could tie her slip on one of the higher branches. She gave her wish a lot of thought. "I want to live happily with everyone in our house for as long as I can. And I want Chien's practice to go really well!" ]

[Patty is what one might call a surprise participant, as she hadn't actually signed up for this. She'd just been wandering around, exploring the village, when she found herself backstage and was mistaken for someone who was actually supposed to be there. She has no idea what kind of pageant this is and what the rules are, but she'll improvise. She always does.

When it's her turn, she saunters onto the stage wearing something similar to her swimsuit title, complete with sunhat. Her trusty binoculars are still by her side, as she'd never part with those, and her hair is tied back into one long braid. When she reaches the center of the stage, she doesn't even need to think about what to do. It all comes naturally.]

Form Up!

[She twirls around on one foot, the arte producing colorful streams and stars all around her. Once the twirl is over, she adjusts her hat with one hand to make sure it's still in place and winks at the judges.

Once she's sure the 'impact' has sunk in for the audience, she skips off stage again, humming under her breath.]
