Mission # 10 - Operation: Hospital Freedom
Who: Commander: Gai Tsutsugami, Soldiers/Guards: [Faith Lehane, Amelia McFly, Hyuuga Neji, Masaomi Kida, Nara Shikamaru, Edward Elric, Susan Richards, Precis Neumann, Katara, Rock Lee], Negotiators: [Gregor Vorbarra, Tarrlok, Nephry Osborne]
What: MISSION # 10 - Operation: Hospital Freedom
When: September 3rd-4th
Where: Desset City General Hospital
Summary: A group of Malnosso soldiers have gone off the deep end and intend to join the cultists and sacrifice the patients inside a hospital.
The volunteers had only two hours to read the message before they were expected to step on the teleporter in the tunnels and be deployed. They were then met by Malnosso soldiers who briefed them on the situation as they were flown to the scene in five separate helicopters. Along with blueprints of the hospital, they were also given a folder of documents with profiles of the soldiers in the hospital. As typical protocol, the windows were blacked out. When at last they arrived, it was on a building adjacent to the hospital itself. The building itself was forty stories high, the same as the hospital across the street.
On the roof they were met with a familiar face. Specialist Davis. He was accompanied by ten additional soldiers, all geared up and ready to deploy. He seemed more annoyed than usual. Even more so than the battle up on the Moon.
“Alright you lot, listen up, cuz I ain’t saying this twice. You aren’t my first choice for this mission, but you were all MARS was able to get. You all should be familiar with the details of the mission already. If not, better brush up before we go. But let me make one thing clear, because you lot seem to have a pretty hard time with this one. No one dies. These ain’t a bunch of kids from some other bubble you can cut up if you decide you don’t like them so much. These are men and women who spend every day defending this world. And if that ain’t enough for you, they know enough things that if they escape here and get to the Cultists, it could jeopardize everything. Including your enclosure. If anyone has a problem with that, you can get the hell back on that chopper and stop wasting my time.”
The soldiers with him seemed a little surprised by his unusual behavior. It was clear that Davis was aware of recent events. He was none too thrilled to hear of the results. “So to make sure you don’t go in and try to kill the first soldier who gets in your way, we’ll be packing nonlethal weapons only. Tasers, stun guns, tranqs, and the works. Some of these soldiers may take a little more than that. We’ve got a powerful psychic in there, so be sure to wear the earpieces you were given on the chopper. That should keep him from getting inside your head. But that won’t stop him from taking control of patients and hospital staff. This should go without saying, but you can’t kill them either. If any of you do, I’ll make sure it’s a good and long time before you ever go on a mission again.”
His orders finished, Davis left the group to make his final preparations with his soldiers. The Lucetians were given access to several totes containing the weaponry they were permitted to take with them. During that time, Davis could be spotted at the corner of the building with an unidentifiable woman wearing a hood. After their conversation, he returned to the group to take some final questions. Once everything was ready, the operation was ready to begin. Step one? Taking control of the opposing roof.

The Desset City General Hospital is a forty floor building located in the middle of the city. For an idea of what the city looks like, well, imagine any modern major city. The city is very much a bustling metropolis, quite different from the draft that took place there over two years ago.
There are numerous soldiers within the hospital. Fifteen notable soldiers are listed here, but there are numerous other ‘novices’ among them. It was originally a group of two hundred soldiers, but there’s been a lot of infighting after the hospital was taken, so it is unknown how many of them survived. Aside from the fifteen in particular, most of the soldiers will not possess any unique traits, though you are certainly encouraged to invent NPCs to flesh out as much as you like.
The building is large and chock-full of important people, facilities, and equipment. While most of it pertains to the hospital’s everyday runnings, there are some “easter eggs” ripe for the finding should the team of volunteers conduct a thorough enough search. However, remember that your characters are here on a short mission and will likely not be able to search everywhere. The hospital is on emergency power only and so not even the mad convenience of elevators can help them zip around to all of the floors.
Floor 40: Emergency care, for in-flight patients arriving by chopper. Several badly injured patients are still here being cared for by hospital staff, but in danger of dying if not allowed surgery. Several soldiers guard this floor.
Floor 39: Special Care ward. Typically reserved for wealthy or important members of the organization to receive individualized care in nice and spacious accommodations. Already evacuated and abandoned.
Floor 38-31: Various wards for different problems, varying from heart, lungs, and other injuries. Most of the surgeries are performed here.
Floor 29-20: “Death Penalty Syndrome” ward. Several floors dedicated solely to caring for individuals who have accumulated enough Death Penalties to no longer be able to care for themselves. Some are more far gone than others. Most of the soldiers are pinned up on these floors, being particularly interested in sacrificing these patients as an ‘act of mercy’. Most of these patients have either been in the world for centuries or are soldiers and fighters.
Floor 19-18: Shift Labs. Occasionally -- with both natural and fabricated Shifts -- there are subjects who are unable to return to their previous state. These floors house labs used for researching ways in which to cure the Shifted, whether they be part of the Organization or from an unfortunate enclosure. It’s clear that these labs are very busy and some of the qualifications hung up on the walls suggest that very prominent doctors and scientists are employed by these labs. Although patients have been evacuated, volunteers will find their charts left behind. These charts list names, vitals, as well as geographical locations. At least ten of the subjects are listed as having been from Kin’cora. Note: These two floors are equipped with a Shift that cancels all powers.
Floor 17: Records and archives. While most records are digitally stored, there remain some considerable hard-copy collections. However, many of these doors are heavily locked and will require both time and patience in order to be opened. Should any volunteers opt to investigate, provide us with a semi-directed paragraph of your character’s attempt as well as their search and we will provide you with intel, should they succeed.
Floor 16: Psych Ward. Patients suffering from mental problems are kept under close watch. Some of these patients are in similar frames of mind as the soldiers and may inevitably become additional reinforcements.
Floor 15-10: Private doctors maintain their own offices here by appointment.
Floor 9-7: Pediatrics, OB/GYN, NICU. There seems to have been some recent vandalism done to these floors which pre-dates this hostage situation. Sloppy, threatening graffiti clutters the walls and wards saying things like “NO MORE LUCIES” and “MAKE PEACE NOT BABIES”.
Floor 6-1: Reception on the first floor, with emergency care occupying the rest. Soldiers are even on this floor, keeping anyone from entering from the ground entrances.
Basement Levels: Inaccessible.
The NPC, Kovan Foster, will be the only enemy soldier controlled by a mod. A pair of a negotiator and soldier will be allowed to approach him in a three-way thread. There will be a thread on the accompanying mod post to volunteer for this and we’ll randomly select the person at midnight.
It will be discovered that Kovan Foster has managed to bring a Shift-augmented explosive with him. This explosive has the potential to destroy an entire city block if it’s not stopped. They’ll discover there’s not enough time to move it to somewhere safer. However, Floor 19 has a room that cancels Shifts temporarily. If the explosive is moved there, it will cause the explosive to go off, but the damage will be contained to a smaller area. This will save the entire building, however there will be no time for this person to get out in time. Due to the power canceling Shift in effect on that floor, they will also be entirely unable to avoid being killed.
Anyone can volunteer to be this person. However, if none of the Lucetians immediately volunteer to do this, inevitably one of Davis’s men will do it instead. While either option is fine, a heroic sacrifice may impact the MSF’s perception of Luceti.
That’s all! For any plotting or questions, please use this post

R[Psych Ward Mayhem]
While he's doing that though, a small spray of machine gun bullets do go wildly across the hall. HE hopes those didn't hit anyone, shit. Most of them were at the ceiling, but.
No time. He grabs hold of the soldier's head and slams it into his knee. There, that'll knock him out. Rougher than he wanted, but he and Linda are retraeting back to Shikamaru]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
He thinks he has a good idea of what her power is. Confident now, he snags her in the Kage Mane and mimes holding something close to his chest. Jewel mimics him in turn (a bullet bouncing off of her cheek), clutching the grenade to her abdomen and covering it with her arms before it can be tossed. She's still smiling all the while.
Right before it goes off, Shikamaru catches sight of the patients coming from the back halls they passed. He assumes it's the same from Katara's end. Then he's cursing and talking over the explosion.]
You have to fight this one! I'll back you up where I can, but I'm not going to be able to take her out with only jutsu and sedatives.
[Psych Ward Mayhem] gah, sorry, thought I tagged this
In the same move, Katara pulled the ice from crazy-guy's face, and whirled to secure the patients.]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
[He's stopped short by the sight of Jewel after the explosion. Her clothes are a mess - torn to shreds and only held together at all by the fact that they're military issue. A small pouch at her side is all that seems entirely unharmed... other than her body.
Her body which is blue skinned and lightly shimmer now from the mixed lighting of the overhead lights and the smoke from both blasts.
Whoa. Masaomi and Linda are at the ready, but something in her - not the least of which is that her top is loose now - gives Masaomi pause from making the first move. And so, she does.
"Golly, that was a really great technique there. I wish more of use were capable of things like that" She says this as she deftly tries to force her way out of the Kage Mane if she's still in it, and if she's not she's pulling a different type of grenade out of the undamaged pouch as she breaks the distance between her and Masaomi
"And cute, too!"
She seems to like to talk. Masaomi bawks a moment more, but Linda takes initiative - trying to hit her first with a ThunderShock, again. The lighting doesn't seem to be hurting her all that much though... It also doesn't set off the bomb in her hand]
[Psych Ward Mayhem] No worries, Shira!
[But he's not waiting for her answer.]
Kuro Higanbana.
[Shikamaru has to let her go in order to set up his next technique. Another rat hand, but this time his shadow shoots off in every direction from under his feet to snag the oncoming patients/any other soldiers. It'll look like this.
He tries to grab Jewel again too with it, but as is the problem with most of the Nara Clan jutsu: you know what's coming the second time. While Jewel is successfuly avoiding it, Shikamaru turns his head back to call to Katara.]
If you don't have enough sedatives, use mine.
[He crouches down to lean against his knees. He can't control them well like this (their heads and arms will still move if they try hard enough), but he can drag them closer/farther away. Each offshoot of his shadow acts like its own slide.]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
Remember to get her talking, guys.]
I'm on it!
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
Either way, she tosses the bomb Masaomi's way. He leaps out of the way, and this one explodes as well. It's not a grenade, it's some sort of... cyro bomb. The area around the impact zone freezes, but Masaomi got out of the way.
"Oh drat, I really thought that one was going to connect. Then I could get a better look, you know?"
Thundershock didn't so much, he can't-] Haaahaah, diamonds are a girl's best friend, right?!
[Okay. He should use the baton on her. Maybe if he goes for the wing--
She's already got a bomb in her palm. "Seriously, come on." And she detonates it in front of her, causing another explosion which rips her clothing a it more, but she is still undamaged.
Masaomi, however, had to leap back and got some shrapnel in his forearms]
[Psych Ward Mayhem] My turn to hold up the thread, my bad
His focus is dead center though, half on Jewel, and half on watching the patients behind her and making sure to keep them out of the way of Jewel's attacks. But oddly, it seems like she's not trying to actively hurt them... she detonated that one closest to herself.]
I apologize for my friend; his sense of humor kinda sucks. Just be glad he's not telling knock-knock jokes.
[Hint, hint, Masaomi.
Her weakest point, if she has one, will be the only area she guards. I just have to watch for it.]
[Psych Ward Mayhem] We'll get it done somehow!
Come on, boys, don't get blown up. She'll be there in a minute.]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
...Not that she wouldn't rather use it herself, but Masaomi had told her to back up Katara and the woman can't use her own body's water like a proper water type, so she's helping clearly.
As for Masaomi...]
Hey, my jokes don't suck, they rule.
[And at this, Jewel actually pauses to laugh, doubling over a little because that really was Cute. Masaomi is taken aback...
Taken aback enough to not notice she's pulling out the pin of another bomb while she's doubled over]
[Psych Ward Mayhem] 1/2
Meanwhile, Shikamaru would be facepalming if he had the energy.]
Oi, pay atten-!
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
Linda, Magnet Rise.
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
Unfortunately, this is just the opportunity John, who had apparently been faking unconsciousness the whole time, had been looking for. He ripped through his bonds of ice by turning his flame flower on himself. She soon had her hands full.]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
Unless prompted, that's not nearly enough for it to be held there, but it's enough to throw her off and click Masaomi back to reason. He groans and lurches forward to give a swift kick to her hands (ow, hit foot) to try to disloge it.
She doesn't let go, but her finger is knocked out of the pin's loop as she tries to shift to a better defended point. She winks at him and then kicks him (ow) right back with her surprisingly long diamond legs]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
The sound of Jewel's heavy blows on Masaomi makes his teeth clench. His spine doesn't go ramrod straight until he hears John break free behind him though.
Shikamaru closes his eyes, concentrating. Behind Jewel, thin offshoots of his shadow are going to rise up (looking somewhat like this) and wrap around her, in an attempt to tie up her movements. Another tendrils goes up from the ground behind him, reaching into the holster where he's been keeping sedatives.]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
Masaomi! Switch!
[She turned her attention away from John to Jewel, running forward and aiming a blast of water across where Jewel had her explosives strapped to her.]
Hey! Quit trying to blow up my friends!
[Get away from him.]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
...He totally cracked a rib or two on that last blow, he can feel it. Linda, for her part, is trying to thundershock all the zombie-patients, like Shikamaru said before this started. Short out their system. Masaomi, in a reckless move, rushes to push John's flamethrower into him while he's flat-footed. Get in a match of strength]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
How well they tie up Jewel is to be determined (by Shira); Shikamaru's going for a sneak attack, but Jewel is quick. Still, if she catches on she'll be dodging him and Katara.
This almost makes John the bigger worry if he gets that flamethrower going. He's the target of the sedative Shikamaru pulled out, but there needs to be an opening for either him or Masaomi to use it. Linda's attack drops a few more patients and-- Wait. Maybe...
Floor above them comes an awful sound, and this close it feels as if the building groans and shakes with it.]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
She moved to grab on to another bomb and Katara countered, freezing her hand to her side.]
Yeah, right. What's the matter with you? You're not just going to hurt us, you'll hurt all the patients too!
[The shaking has Katara glancing up.
"Now that's interesting," murmured Jewel.]
Re: [Psych Ward Mayhem]
[He screams as John, pushing him up against the wall, with all his strength. They both ignore the blast, held in their own little world of a battle for the redhead to bring the flamethrower to bare. Masaomi's all up in his face, and John is looking right back, humming a song now. They both cock their heads and-
Headbutt each other at the same time. ow]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
Shikamaru's going to make to stab John in the back of the neck with that needle now. He's so wrapped up in Masaomi, it's the best shot he'll get.
Jewel still looks relaxed and reassured, but if you were looking for it you might catch hesitation (she's still reasonable, after all).]
Katara, splash the floor.
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
[Psych Ward Mayhem]
This plan is no good without Masaomi and Linda. Not leaving it to chance, soon as the sedative is administered, the tendril of shadow is going to coil around John's neck and try to wrench him off.]
It was Jewel, right? [He remembers the file.] You don't really seem like you want to hurt these people. We should call this a draw.
[She doesn't say anything for a moment, casually dodging a shadow and whatever Katara's throwing at her if she still is, and laughing. "Oh honey. It's not me you have to convince."
There's still one other person on this floor.]
