[ Petunia the starfish reacts not at all. He just chills in the bucket, clinging to the side. Yep. ]

He is!!! That's one of four things I know!

[She seems so proud of it, heh. Shikamaru takes his finger out of the water and shakes the little droplets off to the ground.]

Does it say as to why he's in your care? If he's a prince, perhaps his father is a king. I'd think he'd be with him.

Noooooope, just says it's my job! [ She digs out her card, which is now slightly battered and has what might be a chocolate fingerprint on it, and hands it over. ] See?

So maybe I'm, um, his subject! Or his family! I think his daddy is probably a king, yep, 'cause it's the best kingdom in the whole world. I can tell 'cause I'm pretty happy, so being their subject must be fun!

[....despite the whole starfish thing, her words sound very appealing. Shikamaru's card itself states he'll never be an important person, but he figured he could still find happiness in normalcy: a small role with a worthy goal.

--oh. So this prince was once a human, you think?

Yep! I think he used to live with us at our house, too, since I guess his kingdom's probably not here. We did get him a really nice tank apparently though? Which is good! 'Cause if he has to be stuck like this at all, I don't want it worse than it needs to be.

Hm. If his kingdom's not here, maybe mine isn't either.

Knight, actually. I'm not so special, I'm just supposed to protect people like you who are.

[ Her expression very candidly explains that she disagrees about the specialness of knights. ]

REALLY?! Maybe you're Prince Petunia's knight!

[WELL SHE'S SMALL! Appealing to kids is probably somewhere in this code thing.]

It says I serve a king, actually. But it could be his dad I guess. A prince could be a package deal, I guess.

It could be!! I haven't heard of any other princes or kings yet, either!

[Does he really serve a starfish. What is his life.]

Well. [Smile.] Whether it's the same king or not, I can't go leaving people who need help anyways, right?

Definitely not!!! Knights have to go on lots of quests, I think!

[--face falling.]

I dunno about a lot...

...It does sound like a life that'd be exciting.

[He smiles for a moment, a little taken with that idea.]

But so far all it's been is codes of conduct.

Maybe you're reading the wrong books! All my books have knights doin' exciting things like savin' people an' fighting dragons and stuff! Or you can make up your own knight code!

Haha, really? [ It's probably because she's working for Prince Petunia! ...Or is related to him, or is his subject. Or...whatever. ...Okay, she's not clear where these things come from, but Ikki isn't one to worry overmuch about the things she thinks or does. ]
