What: Masaomi had a plan for Shikamaru's birthday.

Where: Rec Center -> Hot Springs -> Deer Valley -> his apartment -> Deer Valley
Summary: Masaomi and Leon finished the first one a long while back and are getting the second one in order. and then he's dragging the one they finished back to his apartment to give the gift super late.

[In which Masaomi and Leon shove a gutted refrigerator through the hot springs teleporter and Magnet Rise it down to the valley. Leon then fixes up the symbols on it. There was much shenaniganing. One mouse, one cat, one human. It's a party.]

[One thing Leon had learned throughout this experience was that there was no discreet way to transport a refrigerator. Nope. No discreet way at all. It was took big, too clunky, and making alterations to it just made the situation that much worse.

But somehow they'd made it to the Rec Center. He looks at the modified fridge in distaste, ears flat against his head as he turns to look at Masaomi.]

I'm never going to look at a fridge the same way again.

Same here, man. And to think we didn't have power tools until recent too.

[He sighs, a long suffering sigh as he tries to angle this little wheel card with the fridge on it to get it in the door of the Rec Center]

[In which Masaomi gets the other teleporter to his and Shikamaru's spare bedroom to surprise him. He got it in there during the time Shikamaru was off doing some training or something in the afternoon, so now he needs to surprise him. The elevator helps]

[Shikamaru was indeed out training. Shadow Clone training with Naruto has turned into stamina training with Naruto for the better part of the last month, and isn't letting up yet. He's tired, but he's feeling pretty good when he gets back in.

He also smells strongly of fish, or rather the sack he's bringing in does. Still appeasing the cat. He can probably be heard stashing that in the kitchen before he heads back to the apartment though.]

Hey Shikamary, hey Shikamaru!!!

[Bounding. Over to him. As soon as they guy comes in the door of the apartment, waving]

Hey? [One eyebrow up, he's in the process of shrugging out of his shoes.] Things going well with Ikki?

[He's been pretty enthusiastic since becoming her Sifu.]

Yeeeeeeees! [&hearts] Today I was testing her recognition skills, identifying mankey in the jungle! She's getting better at picking up sounds.

[Heheh.] Careful. If you become any more enamored, I think you may explode.

[It's been funny watching him get so into it, though. It really impresses him how good of a fit he is as her teacher. He hopes to have something like that someday.]

[Okay, he came in here for something... right, the knife to prepare the fish. Don't want it getting swiped in the community kitchen, so he keeps it in his room.]

Right now? [Shikamaru's back out of his room in a quick sec.]

Unless you've got a pressing thing! [In face, he's now at the room's door, his hand dramatically pressed on it]

I left a fish out to cut up for the cat.

[Is that pressing?? He's assuming this is a small thing so he's following along, but Masaomi would know better.]

...Like you left it out? Dude that thing's going to rot, go do that.

[He hangs his head, sighing. ]

--overreacting. It's been a minute.

[Jeez, what do you have in there, a life-size shogi set? But gosh, he will go put it away.]

Dude what I've got hidden in there will last like an hour, just finish the fish.

[Okaaaay. But all right, he'll hurry. He cuts a bit off for the cat and puts the rest away. Takes a minute or two tops.]

[He's waiting now, leaning against the door. Ooooooh yeah]

[He says that second part in a deeper, mysterious voice]

He opens the door and it's..! ..It's a brutalized fridge. It's been modified a lot - the freeze and fridge part are now merged together, it's airtight, it can be opened from the inside. It's been cut so people can stand in it. And it also is covered with the same symbols on the teleporters elsewhere]

[He doesn't look unimpressed at all, just studious as he looks it over. He ruined the surprise (sorry bro) but he wasn't - still isn't - thinking of this as a gift. But still, he expects from the way Masaomi was acting that it had some greater meaning.

And he's right. It's probably clear the moment he gets it, when he picks up on the symbols and his eyes light up, putting two and two together.]

Where'd you get this?

[Even as he's asking he's opening it up. Actually wait, a lot of work seems to have gone into this.]

Use a hacksaw on this part of it? Yes. Power tools on the other end.

[--ha, so that's why he suggested them. He's going to be examining this closer now.]

[Things are falling into place pretty quickly now, as to how long Masaomi must've been working on this.]

Yeah well... I ran a little late. Both me and my compatriot had other things going on

[HE HONESTLY DID NOT GET IT OKAY. And give him a sec, he is still catching up.] Wait--

[Whatever he's going to say though gets cut off as he's taking this in, turning to regard the fridge again with something just short of stunned.

Straightforward, he gets it. But for the effort involved, this is moving in a way he isn't over.]

[He puts his hand on it.]

[It wasn't hear this morning, so clarifying things before he gives it a go seems smartest.]

[This is like the best thing seriously. The more he thinks about it, the more he can see how long this must've taken too.]

You didn't have to go to this much effort. [He goes ahead and takes a seat, satisfied. Ahh... he hasn't been out here since Kurenai left.] But I'm glad you did. Thank you.
