No. I don't expect you've heard of the Sixth Cross either. I'm not interested in your skills or your mission. I'll tell you why you're here, because you don't seem to be able to.

You're looking for the survivor. Korras Blake. The man who has survived two plagues of walking corpses. Because you think maybe he knows something you don't.

[... Okay, he had underestimated this one.

Clearly a mistake.]

"You seem to have the advantage of me. In fairness, I was actually attempting to ascertain your identity for certain, first. I was sincere about the desire to help you, and still am. Still, you've my apologies for the omission."
complicatedliar: (so sweet and so cold)

Then it seems we are in luck. We've a bit of a puzzle that needs solving.

[personal profile] malnosso 2012-10-31 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Korras chuckled. He couldn't see the second man, but already he was appreciating his bluntness.]

As I thought. You are the ones who need help, not me. What's your puzzle, Loki?
complicatedliar: (the devil's horns)

[Loki delivers his answer in a casual tone, as if he's not overly worried about this as more than an academic question. Emotional appeals are, as far as he's concerned, now Obi-wan's territory.] Obviously you know about the nasty business going on. We've developed something of a cure, partially finished, but some factor seems missing. 'tis quite frustrating. I can do out the formulae for you, if you like.
averybadfeeling: (Concern 2)

[personal profile] averybadfeeling 2012-10-31 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Obi-Wan steps back, allowing Loki to take over the conversation. The friendly approach was clearly not going to work here, and that meant we were in the territory of lie-smiths.]

You can spare me that. My scientist had an unfortunate tumble.

[An eight foot tall scientist who looked more monster than anything else. Funny old world.]

So I'm sorry to disappoint you both. I can't help either of you.
complicatedliar: (wicked thoughts)

[personal profile] complicatedliar 2012-10-31 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, is that so? very disappointing after such a long walk, and time taken from my work as well. I'd heard better of Korras Blake. But you know rumors. Legends, living dinosaurs, magical cures.

[He shrugs.]

[This was beginning to frustrate Obi-Wan. He says nothing, however, as Loki speaks, instead taking advantage of the poor visibility further back, carefully slipping the laser pistol from his holster and thumbing it to stun, glancing down at his waist to verify that it was properly aligned.]

"Well, it seems we shall have to search somewhere else, Loki. If you would like an escort to the teleporters, we would still be happy to assist you."

[And then Obi-Wan raised the pistol and fired directly at Blake's center mass, three shots in quick succession.]

[Korras Blake had expected little from Lucetians. Maybe it was his encounters with the three in his visit to Luceti that had given them the benefit of the doubt. He'd seen them in battle on the first day of this draft. He didn't much like them, but they seemed worthy folks. Honest. Clever. Smart.

The moment he sees the weapon flare to life, he realizes how sorely mistaken he was. These two men were little more than crooks and thieves, who had come looking for him with false smiles and pleasantries. He knew what they were after. As he realized the first blast didn't kill him, it meant they were going to do what the Malnosso had done to him in his first month in Kin'cora. They were going to use him a guinea pig. Test and prod him. The same way the Sixth Cross had created him.

In that moment, it became crystal clear. Like the Vaskothans, there was a thin line between Luceti and the Malnosso. For Korras Blake, it may as well not even exist.

He fell forward, falling ten feet to the ground in front of them. Without his enhanced abilities, it meant significant injuries for him. But his survival was unimportant. His blood was what they really needed. And survive he would.

Within the hospital, it would become apparent he did indeed have the immunity they were looking for. Unlike many of the others in the enclosure, it wasn't that he was incidentally incompatible. Though he carried remnants of the disease in his blood, his immune system was trained to eradicate it anytime it activated. The secrets were written there. To anyone unfamiliar with the disease, it would mean nothing. But for a team of scientists who had come up with something like a proto-cure, there might just be hope of generating a cure.

Vaskoth was saved. They had less than a day to create at least one example of a full recovery. The Malnosso were not unreasonable entities. If there was hope, then that alone was enough to get them to help.

A fine reward for a little treachery.]
