On the 29th, the Malnosso announce over the radios that the power cap will be lifted to a full 100%. Carol broadcasts a message.

On the 30th, the Malnosso declare Vaskoth completely lost. Those with radio access will discover that the enclosure is to be bombed.

On the 31st, survivors will have one last chance to evacuate or try to find the cure. 3PM is do or die.

[Loki nods.]

We must continue all avenues in this.

[He frowns at his work and then resumes writing, branching off one of his sets of equations into two more.]

Though theoretically first. See which branch shall take us to a conclusion we like.

I'll work on this set. [She keeps up with Loki's level of thought as few people might be able to do; but even more notable, she becomes confident. This is something she knows how to do, something she can feel she's doing well. He is seeing her as few people see her.]

[Loki nods. While he notes the confidence and the competence, he seems to expect it as a matter of course.] All right. I shall take the other, then. [He moves to the other board to give himself more room to work.]

[Hard work is no excuse to forget manners, so Ami makes sure to remember to be grateful.]

Thank you. I'd like to thank you for all your effort with this.

[Loki shrugs one shoulder, waves a hand.] We do what we must. Better this than sitting on the roof and counting the shambling infected. 'tis an interesting problem.

If we had all tried to escape it that way, this whole place would be lost in the end anyway.

Oh, it may still be at that. [Loki continues to work, eyes fixed on the chalkboard.]

Focusing on that possibility will take our minds away from what's in front of us. If we don't want to see that future, then we have to change it with our own hands.

[Loki laughs.]

'tis a problem like any other. First I must be convinced that the solution exists. Then we shall see if it is real, and if it is unique.

And thus, we work.

The solution exists. If it's an infection, it can be halted, or cured. We just haven't found the way yet.

Work with your method, Lady Mizuno, and I shall work with mine. [He smiles.] I let the numbers speak for themselves before I decide what twist they require.

[Of course, right now he can't do that, not without magic.]

[After a moment, she nods. He's said something that goes deep with her: the freedom to choose your own methods in your goals.]

Whatever our methods, we can share the results and go further.

But of course. Multiple methods will make the conclusions stronger as well, I should think.

We also have the opportunity to have each other review our theories. It's important to be sure they're sound before presenting them to the others.

Right now, I should think time is the greatest concern. It will work or it won't.

[Time is definitely a concern.]

However, presenting an incomplete theory will only waste time, too, as it's tested and ultimately rejected.

Confidence alone won't lead it to the necessary conclusions.

[He snorts.] And neither will timidity in the face of such time restrictions. As much as I dislike risk, this is the time to take it in a calculated fashion.

Being cautious won't always work; I agree. But being reckless will only hurt our chances of finding what we're looking for.

[His tone is very dry.] I should hope I do not strike anyone as the reckless sort.

Of course not. You think about things and decide on your plans.

Then I think you needn't worry about hastiness on my part. Though you seem a bit cautious.

Maybe... it's because I want to be certain. This is important - not just to me, but to many people right now.

We could discuss the philosophical points of certainty to death, I'm sure. However, the time limit we face is far more important, yes?
