On the 29th, the Malnosso announce over the radios that the power cap will be lifted to a full 100%. Carol broadcasts a message.

On the 30th, the Malnosso declare Vaskoth completely lost. Those with radio access will discover that the enclosure is to be bombed.

On the 31st, survivors will have one last chance to evacuate or try to find the cure. 3PM is do or die.

[On this last day, Shikamaru is escorting people to treatment, and to the teleporters. That a cure is in the works doesn't completely rid the rush - some people want out, while they're still uninfected and confident that their loved ones are finally getting treatment.

So it's with a group of two that Shikamaru is passing by the barracks. There's still some hours to go.]

[Saori is perched on top of a single story building nearby, watching for any encroaching runners with an enormous Japanese longbow leaning against the edge of the roof. She notes the young man and his group passing and nods down.]

[Shikamaru waves up, a sign that their allies though she probably can guess that for herself. He remembers seeing her distantly, in the fight with Moro.

...that was only a few days ago. It feels like it's been longer.]

[When he looked up at her she recognized him pretty immediately and gave him a turgid smile. It wasn't that she didn't like him, it was more that she was just...frosty in general lately]

Good morning. Where are you heading?

[Doesn't seem to effect him any. He's only putting on pleasantries for the civilians.]

Teleporters. These are non-combatants from Kin'cora, seeking safe passage back to their enclosure.

How much activity have you seen ahead?

Enough to warrant a second set of eyes.

[She hops off the roof easily, landing with a crouch.]

A few of those things passed between here and the teleporters. Allow me to come with you.

[He shrugs.]

I won't turn down the help.

[Hopefully the KC's won't either.]

Good enough.

[She slings her bow across her back, checks her sword and nods in greeting to the KC's]

I don't think we've been introduced. My name is Saori.

Not proper. [He takes his place beside - not ahead - of their charges.] Nara Shikamaru.

I wish we'd met under better circumstances.

[She affords him a grim smile]

Please, this way. I'll guide you away from where I've seen infected movements.

[He nods to that... but doesn't comment more on it. They did what they had to. He's not going to glorify it.

AND SO THEY CONTINUE ON. The first stretch is uneventful, but before long what Saori said will prove true.]

[As they keep going, they crest a hill and spot a small herd of four or five infected, staring right at them...]

Shikamaru, can you fight without powers?

Aa. [He's already moving into a half-crouch, working at the weapons in his pockets. He looks over his shoulder.] You two. Climb, and take cover in those trees.

[They back up, nervous, but after some whispered arguing amongst themselves they're off. Shikamaru, meanwhile, is pulling out a glass bottle partially filled with gasoline.]

[Saori unslung her bow and took a few steps back, nocking an arrow. The bow creaked, and the creatures began to shamble up the hill, at least thirty yards away.]

Ready?

Go.

[And he'll charge first - they're shamblers. If they wait they'll be here forever.

He's not reckless though. A close eye will reveal he's leaking gasoline in key area and making a pattern of sorts. He's always taking good care to stay out of Saori's range of fire.]

[Saori looses a shot, taking a shambler through the eye and sending it crashing to the ground. She pulls back for a second shot, but keeps an eye on Shikamaru, ready to kill any zombie that gets to close. She gets what he's planning, and she's not about to ruin that. It'll save on arrows.]

[It's easy enough to dodge these guys - and quite literally run circles around them. But before he drops the glass, he does the stupidest thing.

Is it okay to do this now that there's a cure?

It's a fraction of a second, but he hesitates.]

Shikamaru, move!

[She looses another arrow, striking the nearest zombie dead, but before she can get a fourth shot lined up one of the creatures reaches for him...]

[Too little too late. It grabs him and pulls him up by the right arm. He's pretty strong for a shambler - Shikamaru notices this as he sees the armor still partially covering him and thinks he must have been a cultist - but in the process the molotov cocktail shatters at their feet. Shikamaru tries to wrestle out of it, but he's got a good grip on his arm like that.

It's burn or be bitten and he doesn't even think about it now. He wrenches his arm down and swings his body up. His shoulder pops loose with a wet sound that feels dizzying, but it's enough of a momentum for Shikamaru to get his feet up and kick him in the face, knocking him back until he's free and standing on him. Makes a good shield for the flames too.]

[Saori watches in horror as the creature grabs Shikamaru up by his arm, desperately trying to aim a shot at the creature. But...without her powers there's no way she'd be able to hit the shambler and not the young man, so she drops her bow and charges closer, reaching for her sword. If he's bitten...then there will be trouble.

Then he does something unexpected. She watches, and her expression changes to a much milder one when she sees him dislocate his shoulder like that and wrench free. It's what she would've done in his situation, and it raised her esteem for him immensely. Saori, as a martial artist herself, could always respect and admire the creative use of one's body.

The flames caught the zombie and started licking at it's back as she reached them. Leaping over the fire, she comes in fast and makes a quick diagonal slash, neatly removing the last shambler's leg and sending it to the ground. She steps out of it's reach and flicks the infected blood off her blade well away from them.]

Are you alright?

Yeah.

[Well. No, his arm is still hanging awkwardly and he's panting some, pained, but he'll worry about that in a minute. He's frustrated with himself and nods to the tree.]

Let's get them away from here.

[Some of the shamblers are still moving, feebly. Shikamaru uses his good arm to finish what he started. The flames will be quick.]

[She leads him away from the creatures, heading back up the hill to meet the Kin'corrans.]

Would you like me to reset your arm?

[He was about to do that himself - Nara have a good knowledge of how the human body works, and he did it cleanly - but stops. He gives her a shaky nod.]

...go for it.

This...may hurt. Bite down on this.

[Saori pulls out a rag and offers it to him before stepping in close. Gently she takes his limp arm in one hand, using her other to guide it upwards, slowly, squeezing his hand into a fist and leveling it with his shoulder. Gingerly, she moves the arm into an L shape in front of his chest, and firmly rotates the arm backwards until it slides back into the socket with a click of bone]

Better?

[He recognized the technique about partway through and looked away. At least he knows she was doing it right.

He was ready for the pain - and judging by the way his face goes two shades of white, boy is it there - but just having it back in place is also an instant relief. He takes the rag out of his mouth and nods, appreciative.]

Yeah. Thank you.
