On the 29th, the Malnosso announce over the radios that the power cap will be lifted to a full 100%. Carol broadcasts a message.

On the 30th, the Malnosso declare Vaskoth completely lost. Those with radio access will discover that the enclosure is to be bombed.

On the 31st, survivors will have one last chance to evacuate or try to find the cure. 3PM is do or die.

[Loki does as directed. As terrible as he feels right now, he's more than happy to let someone else defend him.]

[Saori drops down beside him, landing with a crouch and heading off towards the infirmary]

Keep low and quiet. I've only got five arrows left.

I shall do my best.

[He can't keep as low as he would like, as low as he would have before the power limit. His back hurts far too much. But he does try, and he is still quiet compared to a human.]

[Saori leads him through brush and copses of trees, avoiding roads and buildings...but it's not ideal. Their progress is impeded by the growth, and Loki does not quite have her light step.

A snapping sound comes from up ahead, Saori freezing and dropping to one knee]

[He freezes into waiting stillness, drawing the only dagger he's able to access.]

[Saori draws back her bow and peeks over a bush, only to sigh in relief]

Only a stray pig.

[Loki exhales a little laugh, but he keeps his dagger in hand.]

Let us hurry before another finds us, then.

[Good thing he's never seen a horror movie.]

Yes.

[And off they go, their progress unimpeded until they are nearly at the barracks. A sudden flash of movement to one side sends Saori reeling backwards, an arrow already prepared to fire. A pair of shamblers are rushing at them, arms outstretched but at least twenty feet away]

[Loki quickly backs up, looking for an avenue for escape. He throws his dagger, an automatic reaction. It hits the shambler center mass where it will do no good. Pathetic, weak arms.

He does, however, spot a fuel tank, one for some kind of cooker. He scrambles for it.]

[Saori takes a few steps back and fires off her own arrow, piercing the shambler in the eye and killing it instantly. The other...however...makes a beeline for Loki]

[Loki gets to the fuel tank and opens the valve on it, letting gas hiss free. He moves back, leading the shambler on as Loki picks up rocks from the street. Calmly, he throws them at the tank. On the third try, he gets the spark he's been trying for, and the gas ignites.

Which then ignites the shambler.

He hurries away from the tank, in case it explodes. Those things aren't supposed to in such conditions, but he'd rather be safe than sorry.]

[Saori watched and then her eyes went wide as the flaming shambler kept chasing him. NEVER MIND what she said about his intellect earlier...that was just not smart...

She takes off after Loki at a sprint, trying to put distance between the flaming threat and them so she can shoot it down]

[Loki calmly trots to a nearby building, and climbs the drainpipe (rather more laboriously than he likes, but what can you do) so he can crouch in the second story windowsill.

He seems to be counting, his lips moving as the flaming shambler approaches.]

Three... two... one... hm.

[Brain broiled, the shambler drops.]

Took a bit longer than I expected.

[He begins to climb back down, much more slowly.]

[Well that was unexpected. Saori trots up and stabs the corpse's skull twice to be sure before giving him a look]

That was foolish. So many things could go wrong. And there could be more nearby.

It worked. There weren't more in the immediate area, or we would have heard them.

[Loki limps over to the other corpse and recovers his dagger.]

If you want to be picky about improvised solutions when they work, best not let me anywhere near this search for a cure.

[Asshole smile, right there.]

No, but there ARE more behind you.

[She points, and there are, in fact, seven or eight shamblers headed their way, drawn to the noise]

Run!

[Loki turns and regards the crowd calmly. He moves over to the still flaming fuel tank and nudges it slightly with his toe. Just as calmly, he goes to a second tank and rolls it over to the first so that the flame is directed on to it. He seems satisfied with this.

...and then takes off at a dead sprint.]

All right, now we run!

[Saori darts after him...hoping that he isn't planning on doing what she think's he's doing...]

[Let's just say that they're far enough away from the explosion that the heat doesn't singe anyone's hair. Barely.

And Loki, through it all, grins like this is the most fun he's had in days.]

[Saori stops, and turns...and then glares at Loki. She's SORELY tempted to slug him, but instead restrains herself.]

Baka!

You realize the noise will bring MORE right?

[She's already darting back into the edge of the trees to get off the road]

[Loki giggles.

He's tired, in pain, and has had the worst two weeks of his life. Blowing something up felt incredibly good.]

And now they will converge on the noise far louder than ourselves, which is already markedly behind us. Choose the course carefully, and we shall dodge them almost entirely as they move toward a site we have already abandoned.

Not if they come from all sides.

[She books it through the trees though, the barracks and the other guards coming into view]

When we return to the lab I shall draw you a diagram. They move in the same manner as a flock of birds. A self-organizing system. The maths are quite fascinating.

[He trots along behind, not straining himself now.]

Statistics and luck have not been in the favor of the gods this week, Loki.

[They're not far now, at least, and under cover of other guards with rifles. Saori waves to show she's not infected]

Best we get you inside where you can't cause more explosions.

Maths, my dear lady, not statistics. [He grins and waves to the guard as well, before offering her a theatrical sigh.]
