Early on the ninth, Hiccup broadcast a short message to the journal reminding everyone about the camping trip he had planned for the weekend. The message was simple: pack your things, meet at noon in the plaza, and then they'd trek to the southern lake where they would make camp for the night. It would be chilly, but with a dragon in tow and clear skies, how bad could it be? Hiccup flies out to the lake early on the tenth to transport some camping supplies including extra tents, blankets, sleeping bags and tarps, as well as some food, before heading back to meet his fellow campers.

At the campsite itself, campers can expect to find such things including (but not limited to): fishing poles, cooking equipment (and ingredients), marshmallows, board games, card games, various sports equipment, harmonicas, et cetera. And Hiccup will definitely be trying to round everyone up for at least one round of storytelling around the fire sometime during the evening. Basically, anything campy (pun intended) can go on here. Have fun with it!

Here goes one of Hiccup's rare attempts to be a social planner. Let's see if it sinks or swims!

Oh come on, it's not that weird! [Maybe no one in the village back home wanted to be his friend because of his hair? Okay, so perhaps it's a little different from the norm.] Should you really be talking about hair when you're meant to be cutting up that rabbit?

Technically, it's not a rabbit. [Sokka peels off a bit of the rabbit.] But now I'm just splitting hares.

[There goes the joke, passing right over his head.] So it's a hare then. Is there even a difference? I thought they were just big rabbits.

[... really? Sokka just stares at him looking extremely disappointed.] I was making a pun.

I thought you were preparing a rabbit. [...] Hare. [So no one has ever actually explained to him what a pun is.]

I will after you tell me what one is.

It's a play on words.

Oh. [...] And what does that mean? You have to explain it better than that.

What? Come on, you have to get it by now! Splitting hairs. You know that's a metaphor, right?

[Nope. Still lost.] Uh, sure! I get it now! There's splitting hares like you're doing now, and the other kind...

[Is that the right word for skinning something now, splitting it? Huh, you learn something new everyday.]

No no no. Splitting hairs! It means you're making a big deal out of something small. A hair is small, right? So you're going to all this trouble to split it up, which is pointless. So when I said that getting into technicalities was splitting hairs, it had a double meaning. The first was that I was talking about stuff that didn't matter while at the same time literally splitting open an actual hare- a rabbit.

Which, you should know, was hilarious. But you made me explain the joke, so now it's not.

So that's a pun. [Luckily he was paying attention and absorbed most of that explanation, which he then goes over with his head. Splitting hairs, hares, double meanings... So there's the saying and then literally splitting a hare and- Hah! Okay, he gets it, that was good! He even smiles to himself once understanding finally dawns on him, but the smile doesn't last long after that.]

It's still pretty funny, I thought it was just now anyway. It's not like I've ruined it forever just because I didn't know half the things you were talking about in the first place! I'll get it next time.

A joke isn't funny the second time. You have to use it once when it's fresh and unexpected.
