Summary: Hiccup invited anyone who was interested to the lake for a little camping trip. Hijinks ensue!

Early on the ninth, Hiccup broadcast a short message to the journal reminding everyone about the camping trip he had planned for the weekend. The message was simple: pack your things, meet at noon in the plaza, and then they'd trek to the southern lake where they would make camp for the night. It would be chilly, but with a dragon in tow and clear skies, how bad could it be? Hiccup flies out to the lake early on the tenth to transport some camping supplies including extra tents, blankets, sleeping bags and tarps, as well as some food, before heading back to meet his fellow campers.

At the campsite itself, campers can expect to find such things including (but not limited to): fishing poles, cooking equipment (and ingredients), marshmallows, board games, card games, various sports equipment, harmonicas, et cetera. And Hiccup will definitely be trying to round everyone up for at least one round of storytelling around the fire sometime during the evening. Basically, anything campy (pun intended) can go on here. Have fun with it!

Here goes one of Hiccup's rare attempts to be a social planner. Let's see if it sinks or swims!

Wha- really? That's just a year older than I am. [Thereabouts. If he's been here a year and he was thirteen when he came...puzzle.]

Really? [ She'd assumed he was younger, and is clearly a bit surprised, but. ] Well, I guess we're pretty much the same age, then.

I thought Hiccup was a lot older than me too...

[And maybe he is! Viking children are obviously raised to act older, either way.]

So are you a blacksmith like him?

He's been here about two years, so he's something closer to seventeen. [ She shrugs. She's not really certain how to take the memory thing still. ]

And no. I'm a warrior.

[He manages to resist saying "but you're a girl!" because he doubts she'd understand that he meant...well, she wouldn't like it no matter what he meant.]

Isn't fifteen sort of young?

No, that's a pretty average age to be considered part of the warriors...

[Luke looks at himself, only a year away from fifteen, then at Astrid, and thinks of Hiccup.]

I feel like 'warriors' ought to be...well, more, uh. ...Massive?

Size doesn't matter as much as skill. [ She...almost called him kid, but caught herself. He really doesn't look like the kids back home. ]

That's true about puzzles too! [He likes it. There are a lot of difficult things he can solve that many adults cannot.]

I think it's true of pretty much anything. But yeah - I don't need to be massive. I can lift a lot more than Hiccup can [ She's...assuming he's surprised because HICCUP ] and I'm the top in our training group with weapons. So.

[He's not surprised, Hiccup is kind of puny like he is.

W-Weapons? Like...swords and things? [Is it like fencing? He knows about fencing.]

I prefer axes. But yeah, swords and things.

[They did say Vikings, and Luke knows a thing or two about vikings in history - you don't run around with an archaeology professor for years and learn nothing - so it makes some sense to him! For once.]

So you can beat Hiccup in a fight.

[What does he know about fighting? He's a gentleman!]

But then Toothless would probably want to eat you.

I wouldn't fight Hiccup without a good reason.

[ Well, no, wait. ] Or to train him.

Is it, um, harder for him because... [Because of his leg. What is a tactful way to ask this question.]

Because he's got no upper arm strength? [ She didn't even think about the leg. Vikings missing body parts is sort of par for the course. ]

[hisapprentice]

Oh, doesn't he? But he's a blacksmith. [Train derailed.]

He's okay, but he usually has problems lifting stuff without both hands.

[ ...Or he did, last she checked. Now she's eyeing Hiccup, wherever he is, wondering. ]

[Luke has those problems too.]

Well I guess he gets a lot of practice now.

He's actually been doing more weapons training here, I guess.

[ Yeah, she's mildly impressed by that. ]
