Happy Happy Turkey Day

What: Marvelsgiving!

Where: House 49
Summary: It's Thanksgiving. There's a meal and socializing. Also fun.
Rating: PG, PG-13 max? A kid got invited to this.
Considering how last minute all of this had been, Pepper was actually pretty satisfied with how things were turning out. Rogue had shown up early with helpers in tow, immediately setting to work in the kitchen. The house had been filled with delicious aromas shortly thereafter, and Pepper busied herself with the other details until guests started to arrive--at which point part of her job became keeping people out of the kitchen, per Rogue's orders.

The set up was straightforward: the dining room table was used to hold the assorted dishes, where people could fix themselves plates. A similar set up with drinks (although please, don't give alcohol to the children). Chairs set out for people to sit, since there were too many to even attempt a traditional sit down dinner. But that was fine by Pepper, who made her way through the group, making sure everyone was happy, or at least not destroying part of her house.

Better safe than sorry, with this crowd.

Rogue passed a bag over to Pepper, "Here, you can take this, thanks. Kurt should be in an' out with the rest of what I need."

She had the turkey in the other bag. It was annoyingly heavy after carrying it here.

[handing]

One bag taken off Rogue's hands, Pepper led the way inside. "Okay. And of course you have free run of the kitchen, like we talked about." Which bore repeating, at least in Pepper's mind. Rogue seemed pretty focused from what she could tell, so maybe she'd already taken the idea to heart.

[touchofrogue]

"Thanks," Rogue said, shifting to shut the door behind her. She'd had a full pot of coffee already and was charged to go. "An' thanks for lettin' me help."

[handing]

"I'm pretty sure I should be thanking you. I hadn't exactly realized just how much went into the meal preparation aspect of this." Which is why Pepper would've felt more comfortable with a longer period of time. But the holiday had almost seemed to sneak up on everyone, Pepper included.

She set the bag on the counter once they got into the kitchen, then glanced at the other woman for further instruction.

Rogue set down her bag and glanced around. "You wanna show me where ya keep your cooking-supplies?"

[handing]

"Of course." Thankfully Pepper had been the one to organize the kitchen, so things were kept in a pretty orderly system. She went over various cabinets and drawers, pointing out pots, pans, utensils, bowls, plates--whatever she thought Rogue might need.

After she finished, Pepper took another look around. "You know, I could put up labels, if that'd be easier for you? I have post-it notes." Pepper could only imagine things would be hectic, and she wanted to make things as simple as possible for Rogue.

Cooking in someone else's kitchen was a strange adventure. Rogue shook her head a little sheepishly, "That might not be a bad idea, Pepper, thanks. I'll just start unpackin'..."

[handing]

"Sure. I'll be right back." And Pepper disappeared for a minute or two to grab a notepad and a pen. When she came back, she had already started writing out labels in neat handwriting.

"Anything I can do to make this easier for you, just let me know."

[touchofrogue]

"Thanks," she smiled and started unpacking. "Should be nice."

[handing]

“I really hope so.”  Pepper brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear, lightly biting her lip as she mentally went over the list of what was where again.  “I think everyone deserves a break after everything that’s happened lately.”

[touchofrogue]

Rogue murmured a sound of pleasant agreement. She didn't want to get in too deep.

"Well, s'long as we don't end up with a holiday fist fight, it should be all right."

[handing]

Pepper’s groan wasn’t nearly so pleasant when Rogue brought up that possibility.

“Oh please no.” Whatever forces were in charge of Thanksgiving and all its fixings, please prevent anyone from coming to blows. Even the idea of it was enough to make Pepper anxious, and she glanced toward the living room. “Maybe after this I should check to make sure we got all of the breakables out of the living room. Just in case.”

[touchofrogue]

Heh.

"That might not be a bad idea. Even gatherin' this many people with powers around is bound ta 'cause a stir."

[handing]

“No doubt.”  Especially considering that unlike Tony’s meeting, Pepper would be providing alcohol instead of banning it, and that there would be more people around—better not to risk it.  She made short work of the labels, then gave Rogue a final glance before she headed out.
 
“Let me know if you need anything at all, okay?”
