Who: Green (

What: An important meeting between Senior and Junior.

Summary: Masaomi seeks guidance from one of the most senior Pokémon trainers after a recent losing streak.
Rating: PG

[It was typical, of course, for Green to be in the forest and training. He had a set schedule, after all, even if his training spots were often a bit varied. Lately, despite the bitter cold, Green had taken to dressing lightly and using a wooden sword himself, practicing his own skills that he hadn't trained as severely since he was a very young child.

He'd swing at his Rhydon to raise its maneuverability, he'd strike at Charizard to teach it to react instead of flinch, and he'd have Scizor train him to be faster and parry blows better. It's important, after all, for a trainer to get more involved - even if Green has been training since childhood.

Masaomi would likely find him along the water today, wearing a t-shirt and light pants and practicing with Scizor at the moment.]

[Charizard lets out a bellow, before reaching with his claws to grab and grapple Masaomi.]

Attack!

[Man, you're slow and have comparatively small arms. He not only leaps out of range, but he gives a swift kick, emulating Volt Switch, actually]

[For as small as Charizard's arms are, he does still have some speed on him. As the battle is meant to get more intense, the Pokémon gets more serious, using his wings to kick off and lunge for Masaomi and to rush him claws-first.]

Parry the claws!

I hope this thing's oak! [Or bamboo, that might work too. He hates parrying though. He tries it, but he's way, way more adept at dodging. So instead of trying to do something like a swashbuckling match, he just catches and slides to one side]

[Charizard's keen on his opponent, now, having practiced quite a bit with speedy Scizor. He pivots and slashes at where Masaomi is moving.]

[Crap. Okay, he could step back, but he goes for another deflect, this time pushing back. He has no idea if his strength is enough to push back the dragon to be flat-footed, but it's worth a shot, to learn if nothing else.

Really though, Masaomi's just glad to be in combat. It's far more relaxing to be in a challenge like this and to bat words with Green. Words have bitten him on the ass again and again with Shikamaru and Katara and others. Something like this he at least knows he's relatively good at.

Even if the charizard's surprising him]

[And Green stops giving Masaomi instruction. He lets Charizard attack, and doesn't give Masaomi orders. And while Masaomi had fought against humans for certain, Charizard did not move and attack like one. Green watched as he left his junior in the dark, to experience the helplessness Green intended him to experience.

A simple lesson; why a trainer needs to be more involved with their Pokémon.]

[Oh, he'll get it eventually. You see, he's still struggling now. Well, he wouldn't call it "struggling" yet, but he hasn't gotten a solid hit aside from the ones Green coaxed him into yet-

And then he gets a flame tail to the gut because of a feint when he should have leap or rolled bah. That hurt-

And possibly lit him on fire a little]

[Rough, isn't it? Being in a battle against a Pokémon you don't know or understand, and being unable to compete against that unfair advantage the opponent has?]

Charizard, use your tail and your weight.

[Especially when you don't have the advantage of a trainer that can guide and instruct.

It's a deep-end-of-the-pool lesson about being there for your Pokémon!]

[Crap, crap. He tries to leap back and get some distance after the initial hit, but he is on fire. He tries to ignore that for the time being, because the dragon is more pressing and it's only a singe, right? Yeah. (actually it's not, the outer part of his closes are on fire)

So let's try to get some cover from foliage here]

[Good luck with that, with those clothes of yours on fire. Green hops onto Charizard's back, peering over the dragon's shoulder. He pinpoints the light of the embers moving, and points for Charizard to aim at.]

There! I see it!

[And it's there that Charizard lunges to cut off Masaomi or tackle him full force.]

[Which is the other point of his leap back - there's plant and tree cover he can only hope will slow the dragon down. Or stop it, but he doesn't have confidence in their stopping force. Not for the first time, he wishes he had the impact dial.

For the time being though, he knows he's probably going out, so he figures he might as well try to get in a hit before he does- so he'll be readying a punch for as he's being tackled. Or before it, ideally]

[Masaomi will manage a solid thwack on Charizard's nose, though it doesn't stop the body check. Green pulls Charizard to a stop and recalls him into his PokéBall, looking down at Masaomi and deciding what he wanted to do.]

You're training with me. I'll show you how to respect what it means to be a Pokémon Trainer.

Stand up, and give me your Pokédex.

[No it does not. He's flat on his ass- nothing broken, but his pride damaged his knuckles hurting. Still, both of those are things he could smile about until Green starts speaking again. He gets to his feet in one movement,his eyes going a bit wider, but-]

Come again?

Give me your Pokédex. My grandfather's legacy - one you will not be getting back until you have earned the right to be a Pokédex holder.

[It's grandfather's legacy that stands out to him there. If it's a matter of family, he's not going to be able to argue logic here. It's some sort of emotional thing he can't touch. Though it does make his frown deepen, he goes into his back pocket to pull out the device and hand it over to Green]

[Green takes it, opening his fanny pack and putting it in there next to his own.]

My grandfather didn't give these out to just anybody, you understand. These were given to the absolute best trainers, who had a deep bond with and love for Pokémon long before they even took their first step on their journey. Only for trainers who showed the promise of becoming something truly special amongst Pokémon trainers, who would do good for the world instead of selfishness.

Yeah, yeah, righteousness and valor, we get it. [With a little hand wave. It's really that he doesn't want to hear it - again - about how inadequate he is. Or at least, that's what he hears. Still, in that context, he can get why it would be taken from him.]

And this is your final warning. If Linda lashes out and you lose control once, she's gone. I'm taking her away regardless of your wishes, because that is not nearly as important as protecting those who don't have the means to protect themselves.

You already spelled out that point. [He does well to try to hide his wince, but really... it doesn't work all that well for the moment because he's no on edge]

I'm letting you know what your lines are. I know you can be better than this. I know because Gold picked you himself. It's time for you to live up to that expectation.

[He nods, but he just stands there, watching Green and presumably his pokemon go. He'll go soon enough, of course, but right now, he needs to sort out what he even feels before he can be in a position to talk to people again. Still...

Well, nothing he can do.]
