Summary: Rapunzel thinks everyone's forgotten her birthday. But Ikki and Aang have asked everyone who's willing to prepare a lantern ceremony as a surprise.

It was a long time since Rapunzel first told Aang about the lantern ceremony that happened every year on her birthday. They originally decided to arrange one for her half-birthday, but he wound up being stressed enough to forget it at the time. But now that her actual birthday approached, he remembered. Working together with Ikki and the art club, they set it up to be a total surprise for her.

Following the inquiry of Asch, Ikki made a general announcement about the birthday plans: everyone could make their own lanterns and tell their friends to help/make some, too (and this can be handwaved as much as need be). And on the 5th, the art club had a secret early meeting in which they focused primarily on the making of the lanterns, while keeping it a secret for Rapunzel.

And now the time has come for it to pay off. Once night falls in Luceti, the lanterns are distributed in a variety of ways. Some people may prefer to let them drift out their windows. Others are released from atop Appa the sky bison - as well as any other air creatures willing to lend their services. And anyone with wind powers such as airbending also helps to guide the lanterns' path to focus near the river. There, boats have been set up - both for Rapunzel and for anyone else who would like to enjoy sailing under the lanterns. And in the plaza a small party area has been set up with food from, well, anyone who thinks their characters would cater for the event. Go wild!

Happy birthday, Lady Rapunzel.

[She turns to him, grinning from ear to ear.]

Thank you, Loki! I'm so happy you could make it.

[CAN SHE HUG HIM...?]

Only for a bit, I'm afraid, but I would not miss this.

[OH GAWD IF YOU INSIST BUT CUTE IS LIKE BURNING TO THE MIGHTY LOKI]

[YEAH HE'S GETTING A HUG. At least it's a brief one? She has too much energy to stay still for too long.]

That means so much to me. Thank you for taking the time to come see me.

[Loki deals with the hug the way most cats do; he puts up with it since it's a brief one, and may even like it a little but he'll never, ever admit that.]

[He's not mentioning the little surprise he left with Aang.]

The lanterns are quite pretty, at that.

[She clasped her hands together.]

Aren't they just? They're amazing. I can't believe everyone went through all this trouble just for me.

I am not at all surprised. [He smiles.] Are they a tradition in your home realm?

[Aww shucks.] Yes. Every year - o-on my birthday, in fact - lanterns would appear in the sky. I didn't know what they were for a long time, until I left my tower.

They would simply appear? How lovely. And specifically to mark your birthday?

[She blushed a little. The idea that the lanterns had always been specifically for her was still overwhelming.]

Yes. My - mother and father sent them into the sky on my birthday in hopes that they would lead me home someday.

[And they did.]

Oh my. That is lovely, isn't it.

[He smiles. Hey, it's not as if Loki doesn't have a bit of romance in his soul. It's just normally locked in a box and never allowed to escape.]

Did it work?

[ She smiled warmly; he could probably guess her answer before she gave it. ]

It did. [ A beat. ] The day I arrived in Luceti.

[...awkward.]

Ah. I am glad for you, though.

[ Just a bit. ]

I-I just have something to look forward to when I go home, that's all.

[That's less awkward than it could be; at least she's not implying the good thing was her getting stuck here.

He nods.]

Well, one might hope we shall get you home soon then, yes?

[ She does hesitate before she answers, but she tries to cover it with her enthusiasm. ]

I-I suppose so!

[He notes the hesitation with the arch of one eyebrow.]

Though I do know you've many friends here. [He looks around, hands coming up to indicate the lanterns. He gives her a warm smile.] Many friends indeed, lady.

[ She smiles warmly back, clutching her hands against her chest. ]

I do have such wonderful friends. I know that...going home is part of being here for most everyone. But I want to spend as much time with you all as I can.

[This is somehow even more awkward.

He does have to admit he has spent pleasant time with other people here. Far more pleasant time than he's had with nearly anyone for quite some time.

But.]

Well, I suppose it makes sense to make the most of any situation.

[ She nods eagerly. That was something she could certainly agree with. ]

Have you been making the most of your time here, Loki?

[...what?]

I've been keeping myself occupied.

[ DID SHE STUTTER. ]

Buuuut that's different than making the most of your time here.

Oh, is it?

[Cagey. Cagey is one of his favorite tactics.]

[ She will not so easily be deterred. ]

Of course. I've noticed people do things all the time that they don't enjoy.

Sometimes one must, yes?
