This post covers the first day, before the attack. Remember, characters here are not expecting an attack and are under the impression they will be going to Region 1 to fight. During this day, draftees will be restricted to T6 and T7 and not permitted access to other areas.

I don't think I've traveled to the other areas much myself. I had to ensure the mikan orchards would survive since it was in the desert region of the experiment.

[He catches it before it can get an inch from his face, adrenaline-charged reflex. Looking at the object in his hand, he can kind of remember...]

This isn't like home. I'm not fit. I don't remember much about anyone in this room save for you, much less the strategies for fighting this kind of enemy.

Loki leaned in to examine the paper closely. "That is good to know. I shall not touch any that look like that, should I encounter them. And I shall be on my guard."

I wonder if we would still be able to travel this world once the war ends? Or will the Malnosso keep us locked away, just like before?

That certainly is important. How unfortunate that an orchard had to end up in the desert.

I should have introduced myself as well. My name is Zelgius. What did you do in your world?

Her answer was surprising to say the least, but when Souji thought back on her attitude and how she was presenting herself, he could see hints of it.

She has something to prove and honour to be made clean again. She has a burden that no one can lighten but her and he feels that keenly now that she's admitted to it. It saddens him again, not for her death, but for how it is ruling her life.

"And that is why you are here," he says, once again taking up the powder ball to finish cleaning his sword. "To make right what went wrong?"

Just to answer my own curiosity. [He raises an eyebrow when Jade seemingly draws out his weapon out of think air. A spear...hm] Malkuth doesn't sound familiar to me, so you must be from one of the other worlds I've heard of that shared similar things with each other, such as artes.

[He readies his blade.] Still, I'd like to see what a soldier of Malkuth can do. [And right off the bat, he's going to fire a beam at Jade with Radiant Dragon.]

"Not really." But maybe, when he puts it that way... Maybe she is. "I want to be useful. I hate sitting and doing nothing. The Malnosso need fighters, that's why we're here. And..."

She ducks her head. It's something she's normally proud of, willing to tell everyone. But somehow this time, it's different.

"I kind of hope... that if I'm useful? If I show them I can help them fight this war? They'll keep me here if they figure out how to send us back. Because I can't go back."

[Leaning in, she kisses his cheek.]

It will, you'll see. For now, we'll just wait this out as best we can. Stick with Saleh and I, no wandering off.

Right. Even if we can only make enough for ourselves, it'll be worth it. I'll have to save some for Pearl and the Little Miss then too.

[They probably won't, but Diamond isn't above using some force to save his stomach.]

Oh, me and Pearl! We're her bodyguards-- Um, we were her bodyguards, then we were her friends, and now we're her bodyguards again. But we're friends at the same time.

[A pause.]

Pearl and I protect Missy, who's our important friend. She can take care of herself, but I guess it's kind of become habit...?

He listens to her explain herself, watches her duck her head out of the corner of his eye, and finishes caring for his sword. He takes a soft cotton cloth and folds it over the blade, carefully and slowly wiping it down the length of it. Too much pressure and the cloth will cut, not enough and the powder will remain. He looks at her over the shining metal and keeps his face pleasant, not smiling but not neutral either.

"You don't need to be ashamed of your choice. Your path is your own, the past is closed to you and you must only move forward." The cloth reaches the end of the sword and Souji sets it at his side, the sword still held in his other hand. "But war is not your only choice, Clove-san. Don't forget that."

"Everyone else here is always trying to tell me that I shouldn't want to work for the Malnosso."

Which doesn't address the idea that war isn't her only option. Especially when battle is so close? It feels like it. Because it's impersonal. It lets her not think.

"It begs the question of who they think we should work for then." He holds the sword out at arm's length, eyeing down the edge for any imperfections.

"But is war the only thing you wish to do? It may seem hypocritical, coming from someone like me, but I would think with an infinite number of options in front of you, you might want to choose something new."

[reminded]

I see... [No he doesn't because how is a 12-year-old even a bodyguard, but okay.]

If you don't my asking, who exactly is Platina? I understand she had private tutors as well.

I guess some things are the same even in different worlds. I haven't been here long enough to know how common things like that are.

The typical Academy entrance age is six or seven years old, and graduation happens around twelve. One or two people who are particularly talented manage it much younger, though.

Only a little of my training before starting school was physical. My father talked a lot about responsibility to the clan and the village.

[to be fair, the only reason platina hadn't thought it too strange after a thought was because she figured that her father had gotten people around her age to keep her more low profile.]

She's the only daughter in a very... [What's the word he's looking for. Oh.] Prestigious line of researchers back home. And she's very rich! Her family is pretty well-known in high society, and they own a lot of hotels across Sinnoh. Missy's family is very important.

"I'm good at this," Clove answers.

It takes her a moment, admiring the sword as she sorts her thoughts. "We go to the Academy at five, where I'm from. You learn speed, strength, and stamina. Every year, students who can't keep up are cut. At ten, we learn basic weapons training. We learn about ten different kinds of weapons. At thirteen, we choose a speciality or two. Then, we may or may not go to the Games. One boy and one girl go every year, almost always a seventeen or eighteen year old. So, a lot of us never go."

She takes one of her knives out of her vest and just holds it. "It's what we're taught. What we're raised to do. So... I get to actually use that. I can be what I was raised to be if I get to fight."

We start very basic training at five. [She actually smiles. Because it's something familiar. Even if it's different, too.]

Ours is almost all physical and combat, but we do learn about bringing glory to our district, that sort of thing.

[He notices the smile, because it's the first time he's seen it from her. Chouji can't help but answer with his own.]

We learn history, mathematics, geography, and things like that along with fighting. I'd rather just know how it feels to throw the kunai properly than try and calculate speed and angles through math problems.
