[She flips through the other flashcards, frowning, then stuffs them away in the grocery bag.]

[And they're back in the house. Rydia turns and heads into the kitchen, deciding that even if Kain wants to argue, that's no excuse to let the ice cream melt.]

[As for the ice cream, it's really suffering the most here. Its poor life is on the line, any moment it could become melty ice...soup. She needs to get that put away!]

[Kain looks at her suspiciously, not sure about this at all. But he'll just keep his suspicions inside and brood over them for the moment. As he goes to start helping though, he swears that EVERYTHING she's bought are all of Golbez's favorite foods.]

[Kain sits down and holds his head, as if the ache is far too unbearable. He's starting to become even weaker and agonized looking. Might be a good idea to lay down...]

[Nope, he can't finish writing. Kain groans silently, as he drops fully toward the floor, the healing magic not effecting him. He's very pale, lingering on the verge of death and panting heavily. Time seems to be moving all too slowly. This death scene has to stretch over the span of a weeks' worth of episodes, ok. :|]

[And just before it's about to happen, as he feels life leaving him, he gathers just enough strength to reach for and grab Rydia's hand.]

[Rydia grips his hand tightly, annoyed and confused and mentally flailing for something to do to stop this. Whatever experiment the Malnosso are running now, she hates it already. Death isn't a joke, not when he's died on her so many times before.]

Kain...you know it's just an experiment. You can't die....

I either see Kain suddenly knocking on the door, or Mulder to make a crime scene of this...EITHER OR

[It's a little late for that, alas. Kain keeps trying to mouth out those secrets he's been trying to tell her- but it seems that the family fortune will remain hidden away... forever.]

[He does at least manage to lean up so he can kiss her. Because somehow there's always just enough strength for a final kiss.]

[There's pain in his expression, and gasping and silent moaning, but only enough to show just how much he's fighting. At least a couple times it looks like it could be the end, before he starts trying to talk yet again. But, finally, his grip completely loosens and his eyes close as he breathes out and... then very suddenly, just like that, he's dead.]

[...no. This can't be happening. Kain dies in battle, not because Luceti's suddenly decided to go nuts again and take him along for the ride. Rydia keeps repeating that to herself mentally, knowing she should get up and find Cecil, but...she can't bring herself to do it. Not yet. Instead, she stays beside him, numb.]
