She senses the eyes on her before she ever notices the woman. It's a prickly feeling caused by hairs rising on the back of her neck that's a dead give away. A sense of unease honed by years of practice. In a family like her own, you can't be too careful. Wariness is key for survival, be it wariness of enemies or of other family members.

The second she notices the woman approaching her, she turns over the page she had been working on and places her pen on top of it. Her grey eyes narrow. Though there's something familiar about this woman, she can't quite place it.

A small frown crosses her face and she shakes her head. "I haven't dealt with homework for a year."

Clever girl. Pepper isn't phased by the cool reception; they are strangers, after all. Perhaps paranoia runs in the family, but then again, they say it isn't being paranoid if someone is actually after you, don't they?

"Then that's a lot of dedication for something that isn't homework." Family business, maybe? Pepper can't help but be curious about what the figures might be, especially with all those rumors floating around.

In her family, paranoia is akin to staying alive. What other choice does she have when her own father would easily dispose of her if she grew too ambitious too quickly? When others would take her out given her position as her father's heir?

She shrugs, continuing to play it cool around the stranger. "It's still work."

And, the steely look on her face says, it's none of your business.
