"soon," he agrees, "And don't worry, it'll be an honor."

[windandrain]

"G-good. B-but...an honor?" Surely not. She's a good singer, but...

[rather_be_surfing]

"A honor." He says that quietly and firmly.

[windandrain]

It's the certainty in his voice that makes it's mark on her, emboldening her. She can't help it. She just reaches out and takes his hand and pulls him towards her. There's always that risk with these moe types. Compliment them too much and they'll start acting like this.

Without thinking, she kisses him again, this time full on the lips. It's almost as though the writers are trying to tell her that she isn't really moe at all, but pretend-moe.

Well, he'd be lying if he said he wasn't surprised. But then, the writers aren't exactly interested in that emotion either at the moment. So after the slightest hesitation, he'll return the kiss. Not bland, but not overly aggressive, either. There's still some sort of stopgap in there. Somewhere. Maybe.

[windandrain]

After a long moment she pulls back, blushing and looking away.

"I...I...I'm sorry...I s-s-shouldn't..."

[rather_be_surfing]

He draws back too, looking a bit startled himself.

"Uh...yeah. I..." What the hell.

[windandrain]

"That was my f-fault. I s-shouldn't. You...I...it...ohhhh Earth and Stars!" she all but wails. "I...you...didn't deserve that. I'll only bring t-t-trouble...and I'm not worth it."

[rather_be_surfing]

"Hey, wait," he'll reach out over the table and take her by the shoulders, "It takes two to tango, you know? This isn't all your fault. Quit saying it is."

He's not sure who's fault it is, but it's not hers. He could've, you know, backed off himself.

"And damn it, you would be worth it! I dunno who told you you wouldn't be, but they're dead wrong."

[windandrain]

Being grabbed suddenly strikes a spark in her, and she blinks. She would be worth it? She...wasn't sure how. But he was right. He did kiss her back.

"I...I have a b-b-boyfriend." She manages not to splutter but she does stammer. "I don't...I don't know how he puts up with me, b-but...I've done something foolish, haven't I?"

Boyfriend?

Aw hell.

"...I'm sorry. I dunno about foolish, but it might tick him off if he finds out..."

C'mon, Derek. You're in a soap opera, you KNOW someone will have seen this little exchange...

"Yeah, it might just do that."

Of course someone had seen it! Of course it would be the most inconvenient person in the world to have seen it, such as the aforementioned boyfriend and head of a notorious crime syndicate!

Clint steps out from behind the conveniently positioned wall, a dark look on his face as he regards the two of them.

[windandrain]

Saori leaps to her feet, spilling the hot chocolate as she does so, the chair clattering to the floor. She stumbles, ungraciously falling on her behind in total panic and shock. She...she hadn't meant to. And...and now...oh no. This was bad, very, very bad.

"C-Clint...p-p-please. Don't hurt him. It...it was my fault. I can...explain everything!" She whimpers from the floor, rubbing her backside. Ow, that hurt too. Stupid...stupid worm. You did something stupid and now nothing will be alright...

"Hey, no, wait, Saori!"

Derek gets up too, putting himself between her and Clint. He'll face off with the guy.

"It's not her fault. I kissed her."

What, you expected him to do any less?

He gives them both a searing look, passionately angry. "Oh, I'm pretty sure that it's mostly your fault," he says darkly to Derek, before moving to shoulder past him to get to his girlfriend.

"He hurt you?"

[windandrain]

She stands quickly, looking at the ground, rubbing her backside still.

"N-no. He didn't. I...I fell down. You s-surprised me. Please. Don't be angry, it was my fault."

[rather_be_surfing]

"It. Wasn't. Your. Fault."

That's pretty much all he has here. That, and he sees that look.

"It's definitely someone's fault," Clint says, and it's pretty obvious who he's talking about, the way he looks at Derek still and wraps an arm protectively around his girlfriend.

[windandrain]

She looks helplessly from one to the other, not sure what to do. Derek didn't do anything wrong, that was her fault. But what can she say? Honestly, she has no idea. The arm around her makes her sag and she whimpers faintly.

"He...he helped me. Find an umbrella...that's all."

[rather_be_surfing]

There's a split second of internal normalcy where Derek thinks 'good, he won't blame her', and then the stupid hits again.

"Yeah. Me."

Come at me, bro.

His gaze doesn't leave Derek, even when his grip tightens protectively around Saori.

"What exactly are you expecting to happen here?"

[windandrain]

Saori just stands there, wondering what's going on, wide-eyed with fright. Oh...this was all her fault.

[rather_be_surfing]

"I dunno," that's the truth, "What are you expecting to do?"

"Well, I figure we could fight. Although I don't like to do that in front of the lady. You could apologise."

[windandrain]

"P-please don't...fight...I don't. I don't want to see anyone get hurt."
