Coffee Shop Construction is a go!

Who: Natasha Romanoff and anyone conned into likely to swing by and help
What: Before it can open, the coffee shop needs a little tlc and a few touch-ups.
When: Friday, May 10. Possibly extending into the weekend.
Where: The future location of A Shot In The Dark coffee shop. (AKA, Building M)
Summary: Natasha calls in a few favors and bribes a few friends and teammates into helping her get the coffee shop ready to open. Anyone able to hammer a few nails, wield a paint brush or broom, or move some furniture is invited. Or come ogle some of the shirtless males she's put to work, that's acceptable too.
Rating: PG. Probably. >.>


Natasha's still not entirely sure why she's doing this. Most mornings, she wakes up with the inevitable realization that she's probably lost her mind. She's not one to put down roots, to make a commitment to anything, because things don't last, situations change and her lifestyle choice of 'don't get attached' is slowly getting buried under a mound of teammates, friends, and persistent pests that somehow end up being debatably endearing.

And, apparently, a coffee shop.

Yup. She's definitely lost her mind. That doesn't seem to stop her from going each day and working on the little shop off the plaza, although she's reached a point that there's not much else she can do on her own. She needs help. A galling realization, but hey, that's what teammates are for, right? So, on a bright and sunny Friday morning, she rounds up what help she can find to pound out the last few renovations needed for the place.



((OOC Note: Most of the work needed is inside the cafe itself, although some work can be done outside as well. The doors will be propped open for people to come and go and they're taking pretty much a blank slate of an interior and turning it into this. So, work your character could possibly be doing is helping construct the coffee bar, painting the walls, hanging light fixtures or the shelving behind the coffee bar. Cleaning up the tables and chairs or the other surfaces inside once the sawdust and nail-pounding clears up. And if someone wants to get creative and make her a sign, she will be eternally grateful.

There will be a constant supply of drinks and snacks as well, for people wanting to take breaks or those wandering by to eyeball the proceedings. Hop in, help out, or just stop by to chat.))

[ He gives her a genuine smile, not so much minding the break in well-wishes if it means she's at his side. ]

Happy birthday indeed. You know, I wasn't expecting a coffee shop for my birthday, but you really do go the extra mile. Even if I had to help build it.

[handing]

[Pepper just raises an eyebrow as the device spouted out Tony’s unique brand of humor.] Right. Make sure you tell Natasha that too; I’m really interested to see just how that will go over with her.

[alloys]

I'm sure I won't need to. Let's be honest. She's planning on naming this place after me.

[ 'Starkbucks' had such a nice ring to it. ]

[handing]

That’s not what the signs say. [And Pepper doesn’t seem to feel any remorse as she points this little fact out.] Pretty sure she’s going with a tongue-in-cheek assassin theme instead of Iron Man.

[alloys]

[ He shrugs lightly, a playful look in his eye. ]

Her loss. Though there's always time to hang a new sign.

[handing]

Then you’d have Natasha and Billy coming after you, since he made the signs. [And guess who would let them right in? Pepper is not going to be in the middle of that argument, playful or not.]

I think you’ll just have to settle for convincing them to name a drink after you.

[alloys]

[ A look of mock-defeat. ]

I think I should only settle for them naming every drink after me.

[handing]

You do that, honey. [Pepper smiles like the loving, supportive girlfriend that she is, because she’s going to keep on mocking him.] I’m sure it’ll go over very well. Just remember, you can’t give them rights to any brand names trademarked to Stark Industries without consulting the legal department.

[alloys]

Speaking of that, I've entered into negotiations with a new business partner. I hope you're okay with that.

[ He grins oh-so-cheekily. ]

[handing]

Oh, have you now? [This ought to be good. The fact that they could easily be having this conversation at home about an actual business partner for the multi-billion dollar company Pepper helps run doesn't go missed, either.]

So, just who is this partner, and what venture are they proposing?

[alloys]

One Kurt Wagner. [ To the translator's credit, it doesn't butcher his name too badly. ] Novelty hats.

[handing]

Novelty hats. [She raised her eyebrows as she very deliberately looked at the top of his head.] Like the one you’re wearing right now.

And just how is this business going to work, pray tell?

[alloys]

Easy. We outsource production, make branding deals with partner companies, and our good friend Mr. Wagner will design them. I'll even put one on the suit.

[handing]

No you won’t. [Gee, that was easy.] The suit is not a race car. You do not have sponsors who get to advertise on your chest plate. There isn’t even a Stark Industries logo on it, and if anyone should have that, it’s us.

[alloys]

You're right.

I'll put it on the racecar.

[handing]

Fine. You get approval from the PR department, the legal department, and me, and you can put it on the racecar.

[Want to guess what the chances of that happening are?]

[alloys]

Right. I suppose I should be starting with you. [ He leans closer to her. ] Have I mentioned it's my birthday, honey?

[handing]

So I've heard.

[alloys]

And you've yet to give me a gift.

[handing]

[She raises an eyebrow as she glances over at him.] Your gift is at the house, Mr. Stark—unless you’d rather have permission to go forward with this whole novelty hat idea instead—and no, you can’t have both.

[Choose wisely.]

[alloys]

Can you tell me what the other gift is first?

[handing]

[See, this? Not wise. Notice the hand moving onto her hip as she turns toward him.]

Do I really have to tell you what the other gift is?

[alloys]

[ He smirks. ]

I wouldn't mind a few of the details.

[handing]

[Pepper huffs out a breath, shaking her head--although she is smiling, so maybe Tony's not completely doomed.

Or maybe it's the disbelief showing.]

You are unbelievable. [No details for you, Stark. None.] You want me to give you detail about what your birthday present is?

[alloys]

[ He shrugs nonchalantly. ]

If it will help me make an educated decision, yes.
