Coffee Shop Construction is a go!

Who: Natasha Romanoff and anyone conned into likely to swing by and help
What: Before it can open, the coffee shop needs a little tlc and a few touch-ups.
When: Friday, May 10. Possibly extending into the weekend.
Where: The future location of A Shot In The Dark coffee shop. (AKA, Building M)
Summary: Natasha calls in a few favors and bribes a few friends and teammates into helping her get the coffee shop ready to open. Anyone able to hammer a few nails, wield a paint brush or broom, or move some furniture is invited. Or come ogle some of the shirtless males she's put to work, that's acceptable too.

Natasha's still not entirely sure why she's doing this. Most mornings, she wakes up with the inevitable realization that she's probably lost her mind. She's not one to put down roots, to make a commitment to anything, because things don't last, situations change and her lifestyle choice of 'don't get attached' is slowly getting buried under a mound of teammates, friends, and persistent pests that somehow end up being debatably endearing.

And, apparently, a coffee shop.

Yup. She's definitely lost her mind. That doesn't seem to stop her from going each day and working on the little shop off the plaza, although she's reached a point that there's not much else she can do on her own. She needs help. A galling realization, but hey, that's what teammates are for, right? So, on a bright and sunny Friday morning, she rounds up what help she can find to pound out the last few renovations needed for the place.



((OOC Note: Most of the work needed is inside the cafe itself, although some work can be done outside as well. The doors will be propped open for people to come and go and they're taking pretty much a blank slate of an interior and turning it into this. So, work your character could possibly be doing is helping construct the coffee bar, painting the walls, hanging light fixtures or the shelving behind the coffee bar. Cleaning up the tables and chairs or the other surfaces inside once the sawdust and nail-pounding clears up. And if someone wants to get creative and make her a sign, she will be eternally grateful.

There will be a constant supply of drinks and snacks as well, for people wanting to take breaks or those wandering by to eyeball the proceedings. Hop in, help out, or just stop by to chat.))

"...Ah... yeah, I can't really deny that one." He offers up a faint smile. He hasn't done any super heroics in Luceti beyond the drafts, really, and as much as he misses his team and taking down the bad guys, there's also no denying that it's nice to get better at using his powers in a safe environment. As well as actually having the time and privacy to get closer to Teddy. "It is kind of nice to wake up and not feel the weight of my imminent demise for a while."

“Tell me about it.” There are times, of course, that the worry is all still there—when Tony’s away on a mission or a draft, for example. But by and large, they’re actually safe here. After Vaskoth, Luceti had been a refuge, a home. That notion really hasn’t changed much in Pepper’s mind since then, even with the hardships that have followed.

“It’s nice waking up next to the person I care about, too.”

"Oh god, same. One of the reasons I'm glad I usually wake up first is because of that." He finally looks back to what he's working on, pulling the drapes on the rod and untangling any hook in the middle. "I kind of freak out when Teddy's not there."

“It is a nice feeling, isn’t it?” Although Tony keeps unusual hours, so Pepper isn’t always the first awake. Sometimes she’s even alone, although even on those mornings she can usually take comfort in the lingering warmth from where he’s laid next to her.

But despite how casually he lets it slip, Pepper’s a little concerned at the mention of his reactions when he opens his eyes to find his partner isn’t there. “Freak out how? Do you mean you panic?”

Oh dear, maybe he said too much. Or phrased that wrong, he's not sure yet. "Not exactly panic. Or- okay, maybe I did once. But that was when I woke up after the whole portal thing went wrong, so I think I'm excused for that one."

Honestly, he's surprised Teddy was able to tear himself away from his bedside long enough for him to wake up alone. That whole experience had been awful for everyone involved.

Her gaze shifts for a moment after Billy admits the one time when it happened. He’s more right than he knows, as Pepper had too similar a moment herself—not waking up, but coming home to find Tony gone with no trace, save for a bottle missing from the liquor cabinet.

“Yeah, I’d say so.” Although she highly doubts Teddy had run off the say way, everyone had been afraid after that incident. They’d all come too close to losing people dear to them. “But it’s gotten better since then?”

"I... think so? Mostly I just get up early enough that it doesn't matter, though."

He's not sure if that counts as a good answer or not, but he's smiling as he says it, so he's hoping for the best here. Really, he figures it's no big deal.

“I guess that’s a good thing.” Although it doesn’t really answer the question, does it? Pepper can’t help but wonder what would happen if he’s faced with that again, which is a very real possibility in Luceti. Kidnappings, missions, drafts, and worse: there are so many ways for someone to wake up alone.

...Moooooving on. "Anyway, what's got you occupied on this project? Still working the rounds on keeping us all occupied, or should I be on the look-out for popcorn again?"

"I'm pretty sure I don't remember having popcorn at the gallery." Just lemonade, and that had been completely Rogue's fault. "I am doing what the forewoman assigns me. And if that happens to include helping her supervise, who am I to say no?"

Especially if or when certain shirts come off.

"It merited popcorn, that's for sure. But I like your thinking." His grin is a bit cheeky, glancing back down at his work. "Maybe I should get myself out of this corner and do some supervising of my own at some point."

“Just make sure you clear it with the boss.” Because appreciating the help that has come out is all well and good, but they do still have a job to do. Plus Natasha will no doubt be highly amused.

But Pepper’s been on break long enough, she supposes. “And speaking of disappearing into corners, I’m pretty sure I hear a paintbrush calling my name. I’ll catch you later, okay?”

...Maybe if he makes a better logo design Natasha will let him have some fun. Either way, Pepper gets a sheepish smile and a salute.
