WHO: Any and all friends of Masaomi/anyone who happens to be on the beach! Invitations would’ve gone out via a (handwaved) secret entry or word of mouth.
WHAT: Masaomi’s birthday party, planned by Shikamaru-Gold-Ikki.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 19th.
WHERE: The beach!
SUMMARY: BEACH BIRTHDAY BASH. It’s pretty simple.
RATING: B FOR BIRTHDAY.

So after being reminded about Masaomi’s birthday, Gold came up with a much better idea than Shikamaru’s (lame) sit-down dinner! Therefore welcome to an all-dayish surprise beach birthday party! There are tables for presents and food, there is music (chosen by the boys, not by Ikki), and there is a sand castle city, complete with sandscrapers, which is what Gold put Ikki in charge of. The sand castle city has gotten a little out of hand because of this.

So stop by, wish Masaomi a happy birthday, and HAVE FUN. While there are three topic threads, FEEL FREE AND ENCOURAGED to just throw up your character at the party below that/anywhere, as per always.

[Hinata watched the little girl move around happily, wishing she'd been that free as a child. It was bittersweet watching the dark-haired girl as she bounced around in the sand.

If only Neji had realized that he wasn't the only one caged in by their clan's expectations earlier, he would have seen how terribly unhappy Hinata had been as a child.]

It is enviable to watch her. She seems to be full of fun and sunlight, much more than myself, even though that is what my name means.

Careful, you'll sound jealous of a seven year old if you say any more, Hinata-chan. That wouldn't be becoming.

[Wry. Very wry, all things considered]

To have a grandfather like Aang-san? Yes, I am a little jealous. [She gives him a smile that is bright but doesn't reach her eyes.] I am sure that it will pass soon.

Except he's younger than both of us.

[He says this lightly, drumming his fingers once on the table before making an abrupt move to try to surprise put his arm around her shoulders. And lean in on her face, cutting this moment off]

As the police of "becoming" though, now I need to punish you!

[His sudden action has thrown her off and she is much too shocked to throw him off.] W-what?

[And with a wide step towards the ocean!]

We're going swimming, that's what!

[He's almost dragged her completely to the water before she can react. The first thing she does is shove him away from her as quickly as she can.] N-no. I am fine. Thank you. I am sorry.

[In spite of himself and in spite of knowing what ninja can do, he's surprised by the force she musters. Wow, she must be good at hand to hand.

Either way, he bounces back, smiles all around]

What?! Don't make me get my partner in on this, Hinata-chan!

[She gives him a quick bow but stays out of reach of him.]

I am sorry. I do not wish to ruin your party, Kida-kun, but I have no desire to go into the water.

Why not? Can't swim?

[Fenimore, as usual, has no plans to adopt more typical swimwear, sticking to the swimwear of her people...which is to say, the same clothes she always wears. So she'll be probably sticking out a bit in a full dress. She could totally swim in it if she wanted to, but she normally sticks to the shallows when there's a whole party going on.

Once she's put her gift on the table and spotted the birthday boy, she makes her way over and stops beside him. Her intent is to wish him a happy birthday, but what comes out first is:]

Well, this is one of the more unusually decorated birthday parties I've ever been to.

[From the direction she glances as she speaks, it's clear she is referring to the sand city.]

[Livewire Mountain Dew, of course.]

[ Fenimore's not in a swimsuit when she crouches down near Ikki to observe the city, since her usual dresses are sufficiently water-resistant that she is used to swimming in them. ]

You've certainly been busy. How long did this take you?

[So there actually wasn't a lot of prep-work required for this party (a good thing, in his opinion). They invited some people, set up the tables, and other than Sand Castle City that was it since everyone could bring food.

At the same time, it left Shikamaru feeling kinda useless, and for once he went out of his way to contribute as a result. For a couple days before this, he took the time he normally would spend training in the mornings to come down to the beach and dig a long trench around the shore, so that the sandscrapers' constructions wouldn't be thwarted by the tide.

During the party, he can either be found sitting in the shade of said trench (when the water's not coming in) in a shirt and shorts, or working on some of the sandscrapers himself. Or rather: making strong, stable bases to hand off to anyone who wants to finish them.]

Blame a seven year old being head of the planning crew. [He says this lightly before turning to face her fully and when he does... ...what is she wearing? Good lord. But he's in trunks with a T-shirt over it himself anyway, so his grin gets a little wider as he adds on] Still, within exceptions, [With a meaningful incline of his head] I've gotten some pretty girls in swimsuits for it.

I...I can. [She was trying very hard not to embarrass herself here.] Just not very well.

[As he speaks, his arms are making gestures - as usually, but at the end of these gestures are little hand motions. But before his next statement he whistles. His Pikachu hears that, and goes to make her way over. It'll be a bit, so-]

So let's only go waist deep!

[She can't help but feel a twinge of annoyance for a moment, even if she knows that he means she's an exception to the swimsuit part rather than the pretty part. She frowns for a second, but the irritation expression passes quickly.]

I can swim just fine in this, so I'm sure I don't know what exceptions you're talking about.

-Seriously?

[He says this with a wry smirk, not holding back his questioning here. He's probably seen her go in the water some with it before, but]

[Okay, she can understand the question. For completely different reasons, she had been rather incredulous of the more common swimsuits when she had first seen them here. And while she's gone in the water at such parties before, she generally avoids doing much swimming around crowds in case she gets too far into it and her hair lights up. So she grins a little in return.]

My people like swimming far too much to bother with a different set of clothing for in and out of water. We treat our clothes so that they dry off easily.

[By "people" she means "species," but she's hoping he'll take it as "culture."]

[She watched him with a concerned look on her face as he moves his arms around. She could see no purpose for his actions and she wondered if he suffered from muscle spasms that would explain the strange behaviour.]

I-I will content myself with only walking at the water line, Kida-kun. However, I do not wish to keep you from enjoying your day. If you wish to swim, you should do so.

[While Shiemi knows a couple of the people at the party, she honestly doesn't share many mutual friends with Masaomi. Because of that she'll stick to herself. The girl sets out a beach towel for herself, and sits on it waiting. She is pretty much an introvert, so watching from afar is enough for her. At least she's dressed appropriately in her bikini for the event.

The beach looks nice, she thinks to herself. She'd test the waters if not for the small box wrapped in pretty paper with a bow was in her hands. She didn't drop it off at the table because it's something she wanted to give Masaomi herself. And in fact her fingers are bandaged as a symbol of her various attempts to make it work. Shiemi's eyebrows furrow as she mentally prepares herself for her eventual "confrontation" with her "rival" Masaomi. Because of her hard focus on this one could easily sneak up to her.]

Hoooh. [And he reaches out, to try to touch her shoulder. To get a feel for what the material feels like because now he's curious, in spite of himself]

So you're in your element here.

Eeeeh. But I'd love to have two beautiful ladies out here with me, Hinata-chan! It would make things so much better!

[And there she is, Linda! In all her Pikachu glory, coming up behind Hinata! ...Little does either of them know Hinata has eyes in the back of her head]

[~~with the hopes that I'm not contradicting the headcanon of the other Ferines players~~ The material is somewhat rougher than the sort of clothes he's probably used to. Whatever method is used to make them waterproof, it's clearly different material than typical swimsuits, even if they are just as waterproof.]

You could say that. I mean, I grew up closer to a lake than the sea, but the sea's still better. Even a weird one like this one.
