WHO: Any and all friends of Masaomi/anyone who happens to be on the beach! Invitations would’ve gone out via a (handwaved) secret entry or word of mouth.
WHAT: Masaomi’s birthday party, planned by Shikamaru-Gold-Ikki.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 19th.
WHERE: The beach!
SUMMARY: BEACH BIRTHDAY BASH. It’s pretty simple.
RATING: B FOR BIRTHDAY.

So after being reminded about Masaomi’s birthday, Gold came up with a much better idea than Shikamaru’s (lame) sit-down dinner! Therefore welcome to an all-dayish surprise beach birthday party! There are tables for presents and food, there is music (chosen by the boys, not by Ikki), and there is a sand castle city, complete with sandscrapers, which is what Gold put Ikki in charge of. The sand castle city has gotten a little out of hand because of this.

So stop by, wish Masaomi a happy birthday, and HAVE FUN. While there are three topic threads, FEEL FREE AND ENCOURAGED to just throw up your character at the party below that/anywhere, as per always.

[He snorts at this as he closes his eyes and holds out his hands] You don't react nearly as well as Shiemi-chan.

[And with his eyes closed, he can't see Linda, who has now engaged in a staring match with Soren. Do you think you can block my way, punk?]

How am I supposed to react? [ Ikki's really not sure - she's pretty sure he was teasing her, but she's being serious!!! Well, serious for her. The minute Masaomi's eyes shut, Ikki puts her hand over his, dropping this into his hand. She'd been holding it herself up until that point.

It's clearly made of the fake plastic-y crystals found on sticker sheets, but those are glued onto a little metal pin, making...a badge that is far too girly and childish for any practical use, but. ]

Okay, open 'em!

[ she probably has an explanation to go with this, but apparently she's waiting for him to ooh and ahh over her arts and crafts prowess.

Soren, meanwhile, is staring down Linda, too. Over his dead body, old lady. ]

[Old?! She's the same age as you. In fact, just to remind you what a spring chicken she is, she coats her tail in metal. Does she need to smack some sense into you?

Ignore that she won't because of her new standing with Masaomi but. Threats.

Masaomi though, for his part, opens his eyes and looks down at- he's not sure what it is immediately, but he lifts it up to get a better look at it]

Huh, this is pretty...

[ OLD. He's clearly younger than you because..reasons...look logic doesn't have to come into this at all! He will defend the city unto the death! Or at least will make it really annoying if she tries to crush it. High standards.

Ikki beams immediately. ]

I made it for you! It's a badge. [ She's not 100% sure how those work, but she knows it involves beating other trainers (???) and stuff, and obviously that's not going to be a thing in Luceti that she knows of, so... ] For helping me out back then, you definitely earned this one, Masaomi! It's proof of being a trainer who helps people, because that's how badges work, right? So that's one down!

[ DEFINITELY NOT 100% SURE ON HOW IT WORKS, but she tried. ]

Was that how it works? I feel like I was told once, but not sure I recall. [He recalls, vaguely, that he heard they were a heavily symbolic item. And perhaps with some tangible value. But in spite of himself, he's actually a little touched here. Oh no, he's a lot lot touched - even if he ultimately didn't know all that much, it make him feel weird, and in fact, before he can stop himself, as he looks at this badge-]

Not sure I was the best for that, was I?

...I think it is! [ It's how she thinks it should work, anyway, if it isn't. It's definitely just a way to show you accomplished something, right?

Ikki looks surprised more than anything else at that. Of course they're not doing the training any longer (and she's not completely aware of the Gold/Masaomi situation, but she never questioned it much) but... ]

I don't know about that. You're the person I called for help, though, and you did teach me a lot. I know that we're different and I don't really get a lot of the stuff you say sometimes, and you definitely don't look at things like an airbender - but you're someone who didn't grow up there, either. In Soren's world, I mean.

[ She frowns a little, shrugging. ] So, you were teaching me what you were taught, but I think that's still important, and I'm still grateful for it even if that's in the past now. It still means a lot to me, so I wanted to make sure to thank you, and this was the way I thought would be best.

[He frowns, very distinctly, but very briefly, as he looks at the badge and she says that. Touched is the word he has to use, he decides. He's completely and utterly touched at her sincerity and the fact it meant so much to her. And if he's honest, it meant a lot to him. The time he spent with her - sure, he can look at it now to think he was being arrogant, and it might have been better to hand her off to someone else. But it helped him, and he's still not sure he was wrong.

Green-san be damned.

So even if it was wrong, it still felt right enough that he doesn't need to discard her thanks. Rather, he adopts a more grateful expression]

[ She's not aware of any of those thoughts - obviously - though she sees the frown and worries for a moment that she said something wrong - but the thanks gets her smiling again, instantly. ]

Yep! I would've pinned it on you but that's hard to do at a beach party, soooooo.

Speaking of which, how do you like it???? It's WAY better than Shikamaru's idea.

[ TATTLING FOREVER. ]

[What a mood whiplash. She smirks now, tossing the badge briefly into the air and catching it in his hand, using that moment to look more relaxed]

Oh yeah, and you steered him straight?

[ Ikki's moods tend to run cheerful, and seriousness can't last too long. ]

Yeah, I told him it was boring. He owes me ice cream because Gold agreed with me and said it was, too. He said we should do a quiet dinner. Without party hats or anything!

[ She's still pretty scandalized about this. ]

[ She looks completely scandalized and floored. ]

It would be boring! Boring! Birthdays are supposed to be fun, not quiet!

Hey, hey, put me across the table from a pretty girl and I'll be content if that's the only gift I have that night!

[With a cackle here, surveying this party. No, she's right. This is ultimately better]

...But this one has girls in bikinis!!!!!!!!!

[ She's been informed this is a good thing!!!!!!! So there. ]

[...PFFTHAHAHAA OKAY HE BURSTS OUT LAUGHING AT THAT. But in the midst of the laughing:] I've only seen Shiemi-chan representing that, so far!

[ WHAT WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING MASAOMI THAT WAS TOTALLY SERIOUS!!!

Ikki looks mostly baffled. ]

Well, I like my yellow swimsuit, and the other ones seem fiddly.

[ as in more effort. ]

Yeah, and you do look very charming. Why, if I was ten years younger, I'm sure I'd be head over heels!

If you were ten years younger you'd be shifted and then you'd go adult just like most of the other kids I meet. I think there are only like...five of us left?

Maybe, but it would be a whirlwind romance while it lasted.

[a beat] Which... reminds me. [He glances over at Soren as he say this but-] Are you keeping custody even if Chien-kun is back?

Yeah, we talked about it, the first day.

[ Ikki automatically glances Soren's way, too. He's still valiantly defending the city. ]

Cer and Ber are here, too, and Chien said he thought Soren should stay with me for now. But we see him all the time. And Cer and Ber.

[For some reason he can't quite place an origin for, he feels proud to hear that]

Yeah? So you're still a trainer, one of the newbie four. [And he goes to pat her on the head now, grinning wider still]

Yeah, Soren'n I are still partners! [ That's always been the main point for her. The bird is basically her best friend, which is rather lucky when one considers that he's the only best friend she could have in Luceti who isn't liable to suddenly go home. ]

I still haven't met the other one who isn't Hiccup.

Oh, that's easy. [And he crouches to put an arm around Ikki's shoulder. He spins the both of them in place and then goes to point at the buxom bikini'd blonde over yonder] There she is.

Ooooooh! So I should go say hi?

I don't see why not.
