Speed Dating

Who: Anyone who wants/is forced to come
What: Speed Dating!
When: Saturday at a vaguely-afternoonish time period
Where: The Rec Center
Summary: Details here, Roster here!
Rating: PG/13/T/R/god I don't know there's too many people

[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious...
[He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

(( ooc: directions are as follows:

1) check your roster
2) make a top thread for your character with their name in the subject line
3) tag and be tagged
4) THERE IS NO QUESTION MARK ONLY PROFIT ))

Yeah, it's one handed. Though you can plug in other stuff which uses two hands.

Uh... nice to meet you too?

[That.. was a weird slip up...]

True! Any more than that would violate Celty-san's privacy. So, the next topic is yours!

Mom is a genius inventor. She can build just about anything with the right tools. She's where I got my appreciation of fashion from. She's got just enough of a temper to stand up to Dad when he's being a total grump, but she's also a loving and encouraging person.

[Bulla can gush about everyone in her family. She admires them, even as she thinks she can't really compare to them...except in fashion sense. She considers herself the de facto expert in that respect.]

"That does sound like it would be pretty funny. So are his characters just...totally normal guys who wind up beating people up like that, or are they clutzy martial artists, or what?"

It sounded entertaining, in any case. She'd never experimented with the Battle Dome in that way, but it made her wonder if movies from people's worlds could be called up to watch as a group. A movie night sounded like a good use of a room or two in the Dome.

Having a strong sense of smell made it all the more confusing that he'd want to smell like he did. Bulla supposed the perfumes might smell more of chemicals than their intended scent and it did inspire a little sympathy for Logan.

"I'm pretty sure they're just trying to smell good, but some people seem like they marinate in it rather than lightly dab it on. If an average person can smell it ten feet away...yuck."

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2013-07-07 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Great! If you need any help organizing it, I'll help you.

[At least she's not completely merciless about her enabling?]
rashness: (It's a feeling)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-07 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
-What?! Wouldn't that be sort of weird?!
fashionably_strong: (smug)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2013-07-07 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Good to know. My dad's here in Luceti, too, and he definitely wouldn't appreciate another guy flirting with his wife.

[Or his daughter, for that matter, but Bulla at least is single.]

Mom does look like an older, taller version of me with shorter hair, though.

Well, I'm not sure I want to keep drawing the comparison. After all, I've met your first, Bulla-chan, and I'm sure I could fall twice as far for you than for a mysterious mother I haven't met.

[She blinks.]

What's weird about picking up snacks and helping you set up a volleyball net by your pool?
rashness: (Bloodhoof)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-07 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
'Cus... Cus I mean we don't know each other thatt well. Or anything. Yet.
cynicism: (76; Oh yeah?)

[It's rare that a Westerner asks him to share his culture. Usually, they're just dismissive and rude about it. He might given her the ghost of a smile, if he were the sort of person who did things like that.]

You could if you wanted, but I understand your customs are different than mine. In Japan, to bow is a gesture of respect. It's like your American handshake. .... I think.
fashionably_strong: (Default)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2013-07-07 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a slight shrug.]

You helped me train. Helping you set up a volleyball net is less weird than getting to know each other by punching each other in the face.
rashness: (Cool Guys)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-07 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I never hit your face!
fashionably_strong: (smug)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2013-07-07 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
You can program all sorts of stuff into it...and adjust the gravity in the room so it's up to ten times Earth's gravity.

[Which was endlessly disappointing to her father, who would have liked it to have at least a maximum of two hundred times Earth's gravity.]

...fair enough.

[She's tactful enough to not say 'obviously'. Orange isn't a terrible colour for him, but his clothing would look better if he wore less orange. An orange t-shirt with a black jacket and some blue jeans, perhaps.]

Well, if you ever want some fashion advice, feel free to come to me. I'm good at picking out things that suit people's own individual styles.
fashionably_strong: (determination)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2013-07-07 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
My point still stands. If you don't want me to help because you're not comfortable with it, that's fine. But it's honestly not that weird to help out someone who's helped you first.

rashness: (Attractive big head)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-07 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Fine, then you can help, okay?!

[Uuuuugh it still is weird that a girl is wanting to help him out with his pool stuff though]
tsunderebunny: (confused -- wait a minute)

No worries! I'm kinda perpetual slowaitus atm!

[personal profile] tsunderebunny 2013-07-07 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Good, he needs more love and acceptance in his life!

There was no way that Barnaby could ever hope to argue with that smile, it was too bright.]

They might be willing to share, too. If we can find them. [Not that he was going to help her bake, but she had been nothing but kind to him. That was all he needed, whether he knew it or not.]
believeit: (pssssst)

[personal profile] believeit 2013-07-07 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Gravity? Eh?

[okay, at that she just gets a blank stare. Gravity is that- thing that keeps you on the ground, right? Why would anyone wanna change it?]

[Fingers come up to rest n his chin as he thinks:]

Well you sound like you know your stuff so maybe I can give it a try.
fashionably_strong: (startled)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2013-07-07 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Wow, he's pretty forward, isn't he?]

How long have you been here in Luceti?

[It's not a smooth change of subject, but it's better than starting to blush again.]
fashionably_strong: (looking up)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2013-07-07 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
[Bulla's aware that technology and scientific knowledge varies greatly by worlds, so she thinks nothing of explaining.]

If you increase the gravity in the room, it feels almost like...really intense weight training. Like, if you increase it to double Earth's gravity, everything becomes twice as heavy. So it takes twice as much effort to kick and punch.
fashionably_strong: art by unknown, if this is yours let me know and I'll credit (cheerful)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2013-07-07 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Okay!

[Now she can make sure it happens. She'd apologize for being pushy, but she's really not sorry for that.]

So, how many people would you like to invite?

[She knows it too, and is tactful enough not to be smug about it. She does, however, demonstrate that she's also capable of moving paper around without touching it.]

It's useful enough. Most people wouldn't think to confiscate some blank pieces of paper I had on me, if I happened to be captured and searched for weapons.
