Speed Dating

Who: Anyone who wants/is forced to come
What: Speed Dating!
When: Saturday at a vaguely-afternoonish time period
Where: The Rec Center
Summary: Details here, Roster here!
Rating: PG/13/T/R/god I don't know there's too many people

[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious...
[He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

(( ooc: directions are as follows:

1) check your roster
2) make a top thread for your character with their name in the subject line
3) tag and be tagged
4) THERE IS NO QUESTION MARK ONLY PROFIT ))

Not many over in the part of Midgard I frequented, back when I was even around. Are they so set in their ways?

That sounds unfortunate.

I haven't any parents to speak of either.

Oh, it's true there are things to do, but I'd rather to doing the most social thing and fun thing one can do.

[Aaaand there's the bell. Time up. he blows a kiss as he stands]
goldenglasses: Maker on LJ (Pfft - I could totally top)

As far as I'm considered just because you're not famous yet just means you're waiting to be discovered is all!

Alas, we have no France at all! We really do seem to be at a very sad loss to be without it on my home world!
blessingone: (like you could save me)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-14 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[She shrugs.]

It might be just that I haven't tried it myself, but it sounds to me that convincing them to teach you is a big part of learning it. ...Maybe that's being a little too critical, though. It's good that you are good at the second part.
blessingone: (I'll be awful sometimes)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-14 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
You have a point. I've never heard of Shibuya, but I think you're the -- [ She stops, looking at a hand as she inwardly counts. ] sixth or seventh person I've been matched up with this evening from Japan. [ Her pronounciation of Japan is a little rough, with a slight pause between the syllables. She grins a little. ] I don't know what it was about how I signed up for this that made me so compatable with Japan.
blessingone: (I'll be awful sometimes)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-14 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[She tries to not look amused. This doesn't entirely succeed.]

Well, if you do talk to her again and she has trouble pronouncing something, you can let me know. I'll try to teach it to her properly.
blessingone: (I'll be awful sometimes)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-14 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Masaomi, always the cheeky one. She doesn't return the blown kiss, but she does grin as she also stands, and gives him what she thinks as a flirty wave. It's hard to tell how that translates across cultural barriers -- in Luceti, it could go either way.]
musubi: (every side of me)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-09-14 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
If they want me to beg them, then forget it. They aren't worth it.

[He's been pondering his own means of getting some magical abilities back lately, anyway.]
neverplaysfair: (Why don't we play one last Game?)

[personal profile] neverplaysfair 2013-09-15 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm... it might just be that there are more people from Japan here. These sort of events are somewhat frequent, at least in the Japan I'm from. The familiarity might have drawn people to it.
blessingone: (like you could save me)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-16 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that it's supposed to involve begging.... [But, then again, she's never tried it herself. Maybe it does have to go that far.] Well, in the end, it's up to you.
dissonates: <user name=fontech> (to the distant future)

[personal profile] dissonates 2013-09-16 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
[He is surrounded by terrible people.]

Yeah, that's not a habit you'd want a kid to hold on to. ...Thanks, though.
musubi: (we will burn this place down)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-09-16 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactly right. It is.

[He smirks a little now.]

You get points for putting up with me.
prims: (+ heh.)

[personal profile] prims 2013-09-18 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
What do you like to do in your spare time?
prims: (Default)

[personal profile] prims 2013-09-18 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
[ There's empathy more than sympathy in Prim's gaze. She's used to families missing people. From the Games, from the mines...it's not uncommon.

Her family isn't immune to that. Even she herself... ]

It's...not uncommon for our world. But - what do you like to do in your spare time?

[ she doesn't want to make this awkward, after all. ]

[personal profile] complicatedliar 2013-09-18 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I read, mostly. Study. Do a bit of training to keep in condition. Chess. Ah yes, and ride. If you like to ride, by the way, my lady and I keep the stable here.

Ah, and Rapunzel and Ikki have dragged me into their art club.

Yourself?
lostinmyway: (It's always a sunny day.)

[personal profile] lostinmyway 2013-09-21 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I like to do lots of things. I like to garden and draw and go for walks and take pictures and go on picnics with my friends. [She smiles again.] That's the most fun of all!
prims: (+ color me interested.)

[personal profile] prims 2013-09-23 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
I work at Seventh Heaven, and I'm training at the clinic. And, well, a housemate of mine started a garden, so we've been working on that...

You ride horses? [ She's never ridden one, herself. ]
prims: (Default)

[personal profile] prims 2013-09-23 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
Picnics? I've been on a few. I mean...when I was younger, with my sister, sometimes.

[ Never a lot of food, but sometimes they'd eaten outside, when it was warmer. Pretending. ]
blessingone: (now rumour has it)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-23 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
So these sorts of things are common in Japan, huh? [She sounds a bit contemplative.] I guess that makes this a much more normal experience for you, then.
lostinmyway: (Small happiness.)

[personal profile] lostinmyway 2013-09-25 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you have a favourite place to go?
prims: (+ content.)

[personal profile] prims 2013-09-26 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
On the edge of the District, flowers sometimes grew. I liked to go there.
blessingone: (we've been sitting here for hours)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-26 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome. And, well, you're right. It's hard to get rid of words like that from Sophie's vocabulary, and she picks them up too easily. But I guess that's kids for you.
blessingone: (the same bad lines always get you)

[personal profile] blessingone 2013-09-27 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
[She's a little surprised to hear him bring it up, but...maybe he's used to people not putting up with him. Then again, she can understand why, with how he was acting when she first talked to him. She hesitates for a moment before replying somewhat huffily.]

Well, you aren't as bad as I thought you were at first. I can put up with you for a few minutes, at least.
musubi: (we're all mad here)

[personal profile] musubi 2013-09-27 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, now that's just sweet of you.

[He leans back again with his hands behind his head.]

Just as long as it's not out of pity.
