Speed Dating

Who: Anyone who wants/is forced to come
What: Speed Dating!
When: Saturday at a vaguely-afternoonish time period
Where: The Rec Center
Summary: Details here, Roster here!
Rating: PG/13/T/R/god I don't know there's too many people

[The rec center today is colourfully decorated, with posters and directing signs here and there to make this whole process easier. The main floor is peppered with a bunch of tables and chairs pilfered from various locations (primarily the school) with two chairs facing each other per table. There's a couple of bigger tables off to the side, one for food (carrying drinks and various snacks, including Teddy and Ororo's homemade rainbow cookies), and the other with a few chairs and piles of paper everywhere. And a checklist. The checklist is important.

The desk is Billy's, and he's handing sheets of paper out to anyone who comes in and was signed up for the speed dating. Give your name, get a sheet and a name tag, go to the first desk or mingle until it starts- that's what people will be told when they arrive. Teddy's not far from the desk or the door depending on where he's needed, directing people to follow the signs, get comfortable, try some snacks- whatever they want.

Finally a lounge area has been set up with cushy chairs, couches, and the rec center's supply of games and whatnot in the corner. There is a sign for the area that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!" It's also got a picture of a weird-looking potato man hanging out, but never mind that.

When everything is ready and people are good to go, Teddy steps up and calls for attention, with Billy sitting on top of the table behind him for moral support (and unhelpful interruptions).]

Hey, guys – Hey! Can everyone hear me? Everyone? [...] Great!

I'm sure everyone knows why they're here. Or, you know, not, since a few of these sign-ups look a little suspicious...
[He raises an eyebrow at that, but his smile remains good-natured, and his brow smooths over soon enough.] On behalf of Alliance, welcome to Luceti's very first -

-We think.

- speed dating event! [Though Teddy glances at Billy for that interruption, he'd paused as if he expected it to come.] I'm Teddy, and this is Billy, and we're your hosts today. I'll try to be brief for those of you who just want to get this started already, but let's go over the rules and regulations first.

If you happened to get dragged into this without knowing what you're getting yourself into, it's basically exactly as it sounds. You might remember one of us handing you a list of numbers. Well, when Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on their list, which will pair you off with someone in the room you just might not have met before! You'll have five minutes to talk to them and get to know them, just enough time for a good – or bad – first impression. After that, one of us will blow the whistle, and you'll go to the next numbered table. And on and on, until it's all over! By then, you might have found someone you're interested in, either as a friend, a potential love interest, or even just someone you really don't want to see again.

To keep track of it all, there's a space beside the number to write down the name of the person you're talking to and anything else you might have learned about them. And maybe by the end, you can write down a no, a yes, or an oh yes.

Try not to be too vague about it and we'll give you your matches at some point in the future.

[Teddy grins after that, a happy and excited one.] Remember, this is all about having fun and meeting new people! If you want to take a break, get bored, or don't have a partner, refreshments are on that side of the room [He gestures to the side, showing off the assorted foods and the cookies that he and Ororo spent a good part of the night baking.], or you can come up and talk to us! We're just the supervisors here, after all.

[He takes a step back after that, his attention going to Billy, his way of telling him to give the signal.] Billy?

[Billy gives a small wave, remaining on his table. Teddy did the hard part, after all.] There's a lounge, too, if we're not interesting enough. You might meet somebody there you're not paired with and find a new friend, so give it a shot.

That's pretty much it, so everyone can go on and head to your first table, and we'll blow the whistle in one minute. Thanks for coming, and try to have fun!

(( ooc: directions are as follows:

1) check your roster
2) make a top thread for your character with their name in the subject line
3) tag and be tagged
4) THERE IS NO QUESTION MARK ONLY PROFIT ))

Training with friends is more fun, I've found. Especially if they're good at explaining things and their fighting style meshes well with yours.

[Although this is, in part, due to how seriously her father takes it, and how much he expects. To him, ten times Earth's gravity is "soft" training, and not remotely challenging.]

Since there's no money here, jobs are basically optional, but if you want one, there's plenty of places that could probably use some extra help.

This tag was mildly painful to write

"Who's she? A martial artist? Or a character in movies?"

Although movie genres were much the same in their respective worlds, there were still plenty of differences.

"I've never heard of anyone named Jackie Chan before."

Sort of. I'm not that good, but I was born with an abnormally high amount of ki and my dad is one of the best martial artists in the world. I know enough to make muggers regret causing trouble, anyway.

[She shrugs and smiles.]

I'm also a lot stronger than I look, so that helps, too.

It's alright. There's no harm in it. [ Lord knows she tends to stumble over things often enough, so it would be unfair to judge someone simply on that. ]

Well, I suppose I enjoy sweets. [ She's not entirely happy with that answer, so she pauses briefly, head tilting to the side in thought. She could think of plenty of food she enjoyed, but there was nothing that struck her as a favorite. ] Honestly, I don't really think I have a favorite. I just...like to try new dishes whenever I can.

"Why am I not surprised." She crossed her arms and sat back, brow quirked. "It is a terrible idea for anyone."

There are many ways of putting it, yes.

[Sidestepping the implications as best she can and where is that bell?]
rashness: (Hurt my feelings)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-03 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well... The Boss went home. So we've been figuring out how to do it without him at Seventh Heaven for the last while. [...] What about you?
rashness: (So you have a car!)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-03 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, definitely. If you make a party with swimming and volleyball, there's a lot to work with. It's not all that big, but if we set up some chairs or something, it could be fine.

Hmmm. Well then, I guess you'll have to introduce me to your mom- Oh, but not in a weird way! I assure you beforehand I'm more interested in you than her, Bulla-chan!
aerialassault: (confident -- you gotta deal)

[Ah, those were indeed hobbies that a refined woman would have. He would need to compliment his young neighbors who were hosting this event later on for their good taste.]

The art club, huh? How's that working out?

[Because he hasn't joined any of the organizations himself, yet. The different ones made him very curious.]

I've taken to building a few things and messing around with the electronics we have. I'm something of an engineer back home, a little, and its kinda fun doing these things.

Otherwise I've been making a few fun scenarios in the Dome and, since it's been warming up, I've started swimming at the beach more regularly. Not much else, though.

Yeah, those missions are different though. I dunno if I wanna work for those guys or not.

[But yes. Shared nindo! he grins.] That's right! We'll send our letters and never give up, no matter what!
believeit: (omfg you guys)

[personal profile] believeit 2013-07-03 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, it's been a really long time since I've trained with some of my friends, maybe I should get them to go do it one day.

[The job idea is a good thing though. If he could stick to one.]

I guess I should have a look and see if there's something interesting I could do.
aerialassault: (thinking -- so that's it)

[personal profile] aerialassault 2013-07-03 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. Maybe. [He ran a hand through his hair as he considered the entirety of what her words meant.]

Little events like this sure are a great change from the direct approach. Tearing through a few disgruntled old men having an argument gets old after a while.

Ahh, yes, I suppose I can understand that. I hope to one day have something similar.

[OOC: Sorry I forgot to put it in there but yes, Sabriel's still wearing her eye patch over her left eye for the time being.

Sabriel looks up at the young man's approach, greeting him with a pleasant smile in reply to the wink as he takes a seat.]

Not at all. I'm Sabriel, nice to meet you.
twinlionfists: (oh yes)

I have not looked into seeing what missions are available yet. Although, Shikamaru did warn me that the Battle Dome records while there is someone using it. So it is best not to use anything you wish to keep secret.

[She smiles widely in the face of his grin.] Yes! I will do my best!

Masaomi Kida - and I'll be your date this evening. [A beat and-] Or one them, at least!
rashness: (Thesis out of desk)

[personal profile] rashness 2013-07-03 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah. Or I didn't have the ingredients, like I said. I just sort of cooked, but never anything too fancy either.

"Especially when it ends." Ending. One word that summed it up rather neatly for what was a rather horrific event that completely changed his life from being a rich husband to a penniless loser. But whenever he thought back to it, he missed the woman far more than the wealth.

"It was Belgians. She was getting into the car and"

And at that precise moment, the date was over. They were prompted to keep moving and Jack reluctantly stood. "Later, Adele."

aww yeah, rock on

[personal profile] towered 2013-07-03 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
[ Having not expected it, the coin toss manages to startle her slightly, and she gives Masaomi a curious look before actually looking down to examine it. Now, she's not all that familiar with yen, so she's not really sure which side is heads and which is tails, but she'll give it her best guess. After all, it couldn't be too hard, right? ]

Ah...it's heads, I believe. [ Giving it another look, she picks up the coin, turning it in her hands to examine both sides before holding it out for Masaomi to take. ] Is one side supposed to be luckier than the other?
towered: (Default)

[personal profile] towered 2013-07-03 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's not so bad. Food doesn't have to be fancy to be good, after all.

Of course not! I mean, I'm great with Japanese dishes, particularly stuff like hot pots.

Ah...what's a hot pot? I can't say I'm all that familiar with Japanese cooking.

woo woo

Oh, you could say that fooor- in fact, Two reasons! [And he holds up two fingers to match, taking the coin to slip between - only to open and close them, allowing the coin to fall back into his other palm. He sets it up on the table with "heads" (the side with the rice on it)face up] First, my surname is Kida, a name boringly descended from the rice farmers who would harvest the stalks this depicts. But, and this is the important part is that the "heads" might represent the pretty face of the "date" I have in front of me.

[And now he lowers the hand with the two fingers, winking and-] And what could be more lucky than that?
