Who: Masaomi and Chouji
What: Jungle Patrol Squad mission
When: 7/14 -> 7/21
Where: The Jungle Fort
Summary: Masaomi and Chouji go out on a mission together. Stuff happens.
Rating: ???
[So it's Chouji's first mission, and Masaomi's... it's at least double digits. He'd have to ask the secretary at MARS what the actual number was when he requests his next reward. He's not sure offhand, but counting it he thinks it's like eleven or ten. Anyway. Masaomi is a little out of it the first day (much to their MSF superior officer's ire) due to some partying he had the night before. Fortunately, another mission'd person fro, Excenn, a young man named Mark Rioteer with a crew cut, vouches for him and then another novice MSF solider who recognized him from the TERRACE draft does too.
Fortunately, Masaomi rallies after the first day. He's in full gear and has his mouse to boot, so once they start actually doing patrols he's on the ball... mostly. Fortunately, things start off dull with minimal encounters - the later days though, they won't be as lucky]

He watches Masaomi a little too closely that day, relieved when he finally begins to seem more like himself.
Like Masaomi, Chouji comes fully outfitted. Flak jacket over his armor, his usual weapons pouch, the bo Tenten gave him the day after his birthday. He's been training with his father's primary weapon for the past two months.]
Do you think it's likely to stay this quiet for long? [Waiting is sometimes more tense than any actual fighting, not that Chouji wishes for combat.
Taking out a bag of chips, Chouji uses the lull as opportunity for a snack. Linda is freely offered a share, but Masaomi will probably have to ask if he wants any.]

Eeeeh...
[Masaomi, for his part, is just glad they aren't in the jungle, but rather immediately outside of it. He knew when he signed up for this mission (which is probably why he was content to go drinking the night before it) this was his first time back to here. Back to this jungle where he learned the terrible secret about Mikado, the draft here he didn't work closely with Shikamaru, and the one in which he nearly died. All things considered... it's probably the place he wanted to be least of anything in the world.
And yet, here he is.
And yet, he's not really afraid.]
Just be glad we aren't in the trees themselves. That place sucks.
[His tone is light and jovial. Sure, it doesn't 100% meet his eyes, but he's been keeping this sort of light and airy feel to him the whole time they were out here. It's easy to do]

Yeah. I'm used to forests, but this doesn't look much like the ones near home. [Different world, different climate, different plants. Chouji can't name a lot of the plants he can see at the edges of the jungle, and he doesn't know if he wants to. He doesn't think that's what Masaomi's talking about, though.
Chouji takes his lead from Masaomi and keeps things light, not pushing. He stays alert for trouble, bo in hand and surveying their surroundings rather than leaving his gaze on Masaomi, when he keeps talking softly.] You don't live in a forest area, right? Shikamaru said I should ask you to show me what cities look like where you come from, that you've got buildings taller than any we've seen at home.

Meanwhile, Linda is totally taking that one thank you. She'll even give a short wave of thanks... but not too much. After all, she's the real star here, so it's only expected that she would get the food like this--- okay enough of that. Her trainer tilts his head and looks at the tree line next to them. He weighs it against some of the buildings in Tokyo. Yes, there are some taller, but this tree line does go pretty high up. In fact-]
Honestly, I'm not sure forests like this even exist on Earth anymore. [They do.
Don't listen to him, he's not legit.]

The plants aren't the same varieties, but if it feels like the Forest of Death, I don't think I need to know too much else.
[He tilts his head in consideration of that comment.]
Really? Is it all cities with tall buildings, then, or is it different climates, like desert?

[He says this while rolling his shoulders. Ugh, he still feels a little sluggish]

[A pause at the look on Masaomi's face as he shifts.]
Are you alright? Yesterday you seemed really out of it.

[But none at all, huh ]
