when a change of heart happens...
Who: Minato, Kakashi, Shikamaru, Naruto, Sakura and Itachi
What: An emergency meeting re: Sasuke's arrival
When: Backdated to late afternoon of July 16
Where: TheYondaime's Uzumaki household
Summary: Kakashi saw it fit that the Yondaime be the one to decide on what to do with Sasuke so an emergency meeting is in order.
Rating: PG-13
He thinks he had already invited everyone involved.
Since Kakashi telling him about Sasuke, Minato has been feeling troubled. It's only been days since he knew about Obito and the news almost broke the well-regarded legend that he was. Granted, at the time, Sasuke hasn't arrived yet, but the news he's been continuously getting about the Uchiha clan is definitely worrisome. Had he lived, such a plight wouldn't have happened.
For sure, there must be another way.
Kakashi has been a very good source of information as he quietly yet carefully told him all he had to know. It was difficult knowing all these in one sitting that the night that followed left him sleepless. The Uchiha massacre, Sasuke seeking power to avenge his clan thus leaving Konoha, him being declared as a wanted fugitive for being associated in a terrorist group.
It's almost as if things went downhill after he and Kushina's death.
Leaving him to deal with things that happenened in his absence left Minato with a light series of headaches and nights that even when cuddled against his wife, went utterly deprived of sleep. What happened to his beloved village?
He doesn't intend to forcefully fix everything. After all, prevention is always better than cure and he's not exactly the Hokage anymore. Instead, Minato wants to surely yet carefully find a solution to all this that won't make things worse. These things had already transpired and the best thing he can do is deal with them the best possible way. They're not in Konoha right now, so the best thing to do is live harmoniously in this place. In a foreign land, it's imperative to have allies rather than enemies.
Taking a deep breath, he runs the list of names he had invited. Only a small list of the ones personally involved. Not too many people as he wanted this to be under wraps.
Now he just has to wait.

Leaning in to peruse the visuals Kakashi provided, Minato nods and then leans back.]
It does seem in this conversation he had with Ino that he has noble interests for Konoha. And that's good. Yet, we can't completely forget his past actions.
[A brief pause.] In this place, however, we also can't afford to lose allies especially when they present themselves as so. [So yes, Naruto, he's agreeing with you there. If he's an ally, so be it.]

Sasuke... he's done a lot of things that aren't exactly good, but the one thing he's never bothered to do is lie to us.
[She looks back and forth between the Hokage and her team.]
About his brother, though...
no subject
[He doesn't see why they have to even discuss this. Though haha perhaps he does after the whole Nagato-Konan thing. What a day. Sakura dn Kakashi agreed though, and so too did his Dad. This should all be sorted, right? If people have problems, he can try and talk to them.]
Itachi?
[He's looking at Sakura now, confused at first. Only then does he remember, she doesn't know. Shikamaru had said he was the only of their classmates who had received the whole story. The question is directed at Sakura. Kakashi knows, he assumes Dad knows by now.]
What do you know, about him?
no subject
The last time I saw him, back home... he was raving about Itachi. About how he wouldn't stop until someone brought him back.
[She shrugs, a little embarrassed to have mentioned it; yes, Sasuke couldn't be any further from that madman now. But it still seems important, with Itachi here.]
And now Itachi's here. That's a good thing for Sasuke, I think -- I hope. But it's also... unpredictable, how he'll react to that.

Yondaime, I don't believe Sakura knows the details about the Uchiha Massacre.
[ He doesn't specifically ask Minato for permission to explain, because if Minato wants Sakura to know, he will fill her in himself, or so Kakashi figures. ]
no subject
You can fill her in, Kakashi. I feel this information isn't something I should disclose since this happened in my absence.
[Of course, hand me down info should be best told from the people that were there when it transpired. Minato knows the story, yes, but stories often change as they are passed down.]
no subject
[ Just to clarify. ]
no subject
[Hope you don't mind this, Sakura. Minato wants everyone on the same page, at least.]
no subject
Well, Sakura... Pretty much...
[ He takes a breath. ]
We have reason to believe that the Uchiha Massacre was ordered and orchestrated by Konoha, and that Uchiha Itachi was acting on orders.
[ He doesn't say this definitively, because the people who could confirm this definitively are dead. And the one person who could do so with absolute certainty, he has not yet had the opportunity to speak to since his arrival in Luceti. ]
no subject
It's true, he did it. I didn't mention it before but I sorta ran into him at home, on the way to the battlefield y'know? He told me not to say anything about it.
no subject
This should surprise her more than it does; to some degree, she is shocked, horrified even that their village could countenance such a thing, but at the same time...
No, at the same time, she can almost believe it. Even Konoha, reputed to be soft, is a ninja village; they are ruthless, a community made up of professional killers and those who support them.]
I presume there was a good reason.
[What reason enough to justify the genocide of their own? Surely there's something.]
no subject
From what I understand, it was to stop a potential Uchiha uprising.
[ Yep. Potential. As in, it hadn't even happened. ]
no subject
[Potential uprising. There's so much to read into those words. The Uchiha were once numerous, Sakura knows -- numerous and powerful, if Sasuke is any indicator of what their strength was. The thought of an uprising is chilling, but at the same time... potential.
If it hadn't happened yet, surely there was an easier way to stop it? Surely... surely not slaughtering every Uchiha save one, down to the children in their cradles.
Surely Konoha wouldn't have destroyed one of their own founding clans out of fear of a maybe.]
Who... who allowed this? Who planned this?
[It's a staggering thing, one she's having trouble truly wrapping her mind around.]
no subject
It still makes his gut clench how an intel about a potential uprising lead to mass killing. Had the words of the Sandaime fell on deaf ears, there's always another way.]
I'm sure the Sandaime has nothing to do with this.
no subject
[Sakura shakes her head slightly, feeling sick. The Sandaime had always seemed so... so grandfatherly, so kind. For this to happen under his auspices...]
Either way, I can't... I can't believe it. Either he knew about it, he was a party to it... or he was not at all in control of what Konoha was doing. For that to be an official action...
[This is hard. This is really, really hard to deal with.]
no subject
Once this talk is over, he'll walk her home or something, so they can chat away from the adults.]
Whoever started it, or ordered it, it still happened. It's why Sasuke did what he did. [Why he killed Danzou- that guy had something to do with it for sure. Why Naruto said what he was doing was understandable.]
It can't be fixed, but Sasuke said himself that he's not an enemy anymore, and that's what's important now. He wants to come home. [It's that simple, at least in Naruto's eyes, and as his team mates they'll help him. Like Naruto has ever listened to anyone's objections when it came to Sasuke anyway.]
no subject
You're right. The important thing is Sasuke's an ally again. All the rest of it, what Kakashi-sensei said... that's just more of a sign that we need to welcome him back.
[Because really, she's not exactly unbiased where Sasuke is concerned.]
no subject
What's important isn't who was involved, but that it happened at all. Based on the facts we have, I think it's important that we are careful with how we treat Sasuke and offer him considerable lenience for his past indiscretions.
