Luceti Valley - The Second Log
Who: Everyone
What: The second part of the experiment. Things begin to unravel.
When: August 7th - August 10th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Check out the mod post for more. This covers Day 6-9!
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.
Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.
Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...
On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.
Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! If you have questions, direct them here.

A silly concern, of course there will be. Maybe not enough to put the fire OUT, but it's not like the water will dry up. He's not sure why he thought that to begin with as he runs towards Makie and takes one end of the hose.] Tell me when you're ready for the water. [As he has a feeling telling her to stand around and let him take care of it isn't going to work. Hopefully standing there holding it will be better than making her run back to turn the water on.]
no subject
Ready. Hard as you can.
no subject
As soon as it's done he's up and running again. There must be another hose around here or fire extinguisher somewhere.] Where did you get that? [He yells as he spots an open garage door, a hose would probably be kept in there, but no point wasting time looking if that's where Makie got hers.]
no subject
...the water is a trickle in comparison. She tries anyway. She can't lose this, too.]
no subject
It takes Vash a few seconds that feels to him like hours as he finds a faucet that is close enough that he can reach the fire. Turning the water on as he rushes forward to stand near Makie and hope that his additional water will help hold the flames from spreading.]
How long ago did you call the fire department!? [Shouldn't he have heard sirens by now?!]
no subject
The added water at least slows the fire's advance, so all they need do is hold off until help gets here. At least, that's what Makie believes.]
no subject
Hopefully those are heading towards us. Someone must have seen the smoke now. Just in case, hand me your hose and see if you can get through again. [He reaches out a hand to take the hose from her, also wanting Makie away from the flames and smoke.]
no subject
[She hands over her hose to him.] I'll try again. [Because Makie is also conscious of the amount of smoke here, and she'll do nobody any favours if she has a coughing fit now. Least of all herself. She vanishes into the neighbour's house once more.]
no subject
Only the moment they're out of the car the cops have their guns out and aiming for Vash. Okay, so they do recognize him. Damn. He already experienced their cells once and he did not want to experience it again, but if they're busy trying to arrest him then nothing will be done for Makie's house.]
Alright! I surrender! Just call the fire department here! [Their radios! They'll be able to reach the fire department!] Arrest me if you have to! But help us, please!
[Vash drops the hoses, trying to keep them at least aimed in the right direction and puts his hands up as told. Two cops rush forward to handcuff him, but they also kick the hoses away.] Hey! What the hell are you doing!?
[What a fun scene for Makie to come back to when she decides to give up on the phone and check out the racket that's going on outside.]
no subject
What are you doing? [She yells, and her voice cracks on the last word, hand going to her chest as she stares first at Vash, then at the hoses. Vash or the house? The police are just arresting him--
--what did he do? Vash wouldn't hurt a fly--
And memories of her own visit to the station aren't buried so deep (Tony was there, he would never be arrested) that she knows straight away that something is horrifyingly wrong with this situation.
The officers glance up in her direction, and their gaze is anything but friendly. Hostile, angry, and she takes a step back, suddenly frightened past the level of anxiety for her house. She can feel her lungs tighten. Not a good time..] No please, he hasn't done anything wrong, he-- my house is on fire, you have to help us, not--
["Arrest her, too," says the officer closest to Vash. And Makie's breath hitches as one pulls his gun, and she stumbles back into the protection of the house.
He opens fire.]
no subject
It was clear these men had no intention of helping so he began to try to shake the two attempting to lead him to their car off of him when there's firing.]
MAKIE! [He's had enough of this insanity. His mind snaps in perfect clarity. Just where he has to shift his weight to slip out of the cops hands, his foot gliding out as he twirled around as if he was ice (or sand) and not hard ground. Sweeping both officers down with his long leg without losing a beat he's standing back upright.
Standing to face an officer pointing a gun nearly point blank in his face. Clearly even handcuffed Vash is the bigger threat then the woman running away so he fires. Without flinching Vash jerks his head to the side as the bullet sails harmlessly past his cheek. At the same time the former textile worker slams his foot with all the strength he can muster into the man's torso. Which, unfortunately for the officer, is a lot more than he though he was capable of just a few days ago.
Vash's voice is icy cold as the man doubles forward, wanting to be sure he's got everyone's attention on him and off Makie. He'll worry how he's not dead from that shot later.] Leave. Her. Alone.
no subject
Makie's coughing fit indoors is mostly buried by the roar of flames coming from her home, and the fire has jumped to the next roof now, and several others besides. It's enough at least that the cultist following her in doesn't pinpoint where she is immediately, though he will in a moment. It's hard to crawl and cough up a lung at the same time, you know? But she's headed back for the phone, because that's where she left the baseball bat, neatly resting against the phone stand. She hasn't a hope of helping anyone, she thinks. But at least she can defend herself.]
no subject
Vash jumps and dances about as the bullets wiz past him. He was really regretting letting them cuff him before this as he works on trying to get closer to them, but the gunfire was making it a little hard.
He moves towards one of their parked cars. Jumping into a roll as he dodges another round of bullets he manages to tuck his legs up and through his own arms. There's a pulling of muscle and a stretching of bones that while, uncomfortable, not entirely unfamiliar either.
Arms now in front that helps a little as he throws the door open and dives inside and finds just what he was hoping to find. Whoever had driven this car had been in too much of a hurry and left the keys in the ignition. The front windscreen shatters into a remarkable display of cracks as the cultists rush forward in attempt to stop Vash.
He gives the keys a violent yank as another bullet sales over his head embedding itself in the driver seat and slams his foot onto the gas.
Only the wheels spin with a loud roar and the car goes no where. Oh yeah, it was still in park. He never did pass his driving test. He quickly fixes this and the car goes lurching forward at breakneck speed. The couple former officers not wise enough to have started moving away the moment he hoped in hit and one goes flying over the top of the car taking out the last of the screen as he flies. The others are thrown to the side.
Vash yanks the wheel, sending the car into a dizzying spin, and then slams on the breaks. He nearly tips the car in the process, but he's gotten his main goal of placing himself closer to Makie and taking out a couple of the cultist at the same time. He ducks out of the car and makes his way into the house hoping that Makie is still safe.
If that man hurt her... well, he wasn't sure what he would do, but he wasn't going to let him get away with it.] MAKIE! [He shouts loud, hoping to be heard over the sound of gunfire as he enters.]
no subject
But he needn't fear. The man who followed her in was overconfident. Who wouldn't be, when following a spasming wreck of a woman on her trek across the floor? With the smoke in the air and the craziness outside, well. Makie was always a brawler as a kid, and she still knows some moves, she thinks, but disease and drugs between them take away a great deal of her strength. (She hasn't beaten anyone up since eleventh grade. So out of practice.)
...when he tries to grab hold of her hair, though, she acts on the instinct to fight back and finds, with great surprise, that she's stronger than she thinks. She falls flat, taking her weight on bloodied hands, and then swings her weight around, legs spinning, to drive her heels into his kneecap. Something she might have done as a kid, not so surprising. The force behind the kick can be explained by adrenaline.
The fact that she follows through, pushing up in a graceful curve to land on her feet, is something less explicable, and Makie doesn't bother to examine it as she whirls again and drives her heel into the man's face as he starts to fall, hard enough to send him into the wall as her far hand flicks the baseball bat into the air and swings it into position. Not enough. Put him down. And she blanks.
When Vash stumbles inside, she's driving the end of the bat into his throat with momentum enough behind it to crush, her face a picture of perfect serenity, made ghastly by the blood trickling from her lips.]
no subject
He takes it all in quickly. The man with his throat looking a bit less... throat shaped didn't seem like he was going to be a problem anymore. The blood on Makie's hands and around her mouth is still a problem as Vash hurries forward.]
Makie! Are you alright!? Your medicine, you need it. [At least he's assuming that Makie does.] Where is it? It's in your bathroom, isn't it? [Why yes, he is already planning on running past men with guns, with his hands still cuffed together, and dash into a burning house - why do you ask?]
no subject
--no. Good friend. The blankness leaves her eyes, and then they widen, sharply darting back to the officer on the floor.
She just killed a--]
Vash-- [Her voice is a croak, and she looks at her fingers. The aftermath of a coughing fit is hideous, the feeling of blood mixing with ash in her throat. Are there still police outside?
They're not the police.
If she stays in here, she's going to die. This house is on fire. She can't-- she has to work out what's going on first. She has to find her family. If she gets arrested by somebody less homicidal after that, so be it.]
Won't do any good. I need to get out of here. Back. Out-- [Then she coughs again, waving with one hand towards the back door.]
no subject
[Aha, there are the keys. He grabs them and moves quickly towards the back door. He takes the bat from Makie for a moment, using it to push the back door open. No gunfire follows it, cautiously Vash sticks his head out the door and it's still clear.] Alright, can you run? If not help me out of these cuffs and I can carry you. [He's already fiddling with the keys as he offers. A little awkward, but he's more concerned with getting out of here then get the cuffs off right away.]
no subject
But a few moments after that she finds the right key, helping him yank the cuffs off.] Carry me. Please.
[Because hah. Running. She may as well sit down and cough up the other lung, it'll save time.]
no subject
They're only about halfway across the lawn as a cultist turns the corner. They knew the pair would have to escape the burning building eventually, but they were too late. Vash and Makie were already running off and it only takes Vash a quick look for him to realize he's already calculated in his head where the bullet should go as the cultist raises his arm to fire at the two.
His arm height, the aim, how fast a person can pull a trigger. It's almost instantly in his head as he veers sharply to the left as the bullet safely peppers the ground instead of into their backs.
The low neighboring fence doesn't slow him down. Even with Makie's additional weight he sails over it easily with one graceful jump. The cultists are following so Vash doesn't allow himself to slow down and think anything over right now. Just wills more speed into his legs as he tries to put some buildings between them and the Luceti police.]
no subject
When she catches sight of the cop rounding into the back yard, she squeezes her eyes shut and rests her face against Vash's back, not so much trusting in his speed as not wanting to see what happens next. Either he'll miss or he won't. The shot goes off, her ex keeps running-- a miss. And then they're over the fence.
...wow. Vash, go join a sprint team or something. That was impressive.
Now excuse her as she hangs on and lets you take care of things and just does her best to control her breathing.]
no subject
The house had looked dark and he still felt he could run so he decides to take a chance to see if the door leading into the house was unlocked. He shifts Makie's weight and turns the nob and is happy to find it's unlocked.
A quick call of: hello that goes unanswered leaves him thinking that no one is home so he sets Makie down in the living room.] Hold on, I'll get you some water. [He turns to do this without waiting for an answer, after some quick banging around in the kitchen he finds a glass, fills it and brings it out. Yet this is no time to relax and he knows it as he hands the glass over.]
We can't stay here. I'm not sure when the people who live here will be back, but I don't think it will be right away. You should stay here, catch your breath, and call Shikamaru. He'll be able to come find you. We're on Clifford street. Closer to Kingston Avenue then Lyme. Third brown house on the right. [He wasn't sure how much she had been able to pay attention to and how much her attention had been on her breathing.] Wait here for him. Or at least, make sure you can run if you have to before you leave here.
[Vash peeks carefully out the window. No one yet, but it wouldn't take them long to start searching houses.] I'm going to go make it look like we broke in somewhere else. [Lead them away.] Don't wait for me to come back.
[He knows it will be less risky if he can lead them away from here for him to stay away at that point. Yet, it's killing him to think of leaving her here on her own after seeing her cough up blood and having to kill someone.] Are you going to be alright?
no subject
Clifford Street. Got it. I'll be fine. Will you?
no subject
I'll catch up with you later, so stay safe until then. [Not wanting to waste anymore time and possibly be seen leaving Vash makes his way out of the house. Shutting the garage door behind him.
He heads in the opposite direction, picking out a house that once again looks empty and is. Where is everybody? He doesn't try to hide his break in this time and goes rummaging through the house a bit when he hears sirens coming up fast. So they decided to get their cars did they? That's alright, because that's what Vash was getting ready for.
As the police cars come down the street they are alerted by the broken glass left behind by Vash's second break in. Even if they hadn't a roar of an engine and half a fence Vash takes out as he backs out of the garage is sure to get their attention. Opps. He's really going to owe these homeowners a lot if everything goes back to normal soon.
Oh well, no time to think about that. He slams his foot down on the gas once more and takes off with the cars quickly picking up the chase once again. He's hope he's made enough of a racket and with the passenger seat cranked down as if someone was laying in it he hopes he's got ALL of the cultist attention on him as he leads what he can away from Makie.]
