Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Who: Everyone
What: The second part of the experiment. Things begin to unravel.
When: August 7th - August 10th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Check out the mod post for more. This covers Day 6-9!
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.

Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! If you have questions, direct them here.

He cracked the slightest of smiles at that, amused despite his pain. He didn't comment; there was little point, not with other, more important things to attend to. But it was acknowledged.

He didn't move except to reach for the chains, fingers wrapping around them to let them hold himself upright. He was torn between trying to boost himself to his feet or just sit and wait for her, and after a very brief attempt opted for the latter. He would need his energy for the journey ahead.

"If my hypothesis is correct, and it generally is, the underground of the enclosure has remained, for the most part, undamaged. There's too much important information to tamper with, and they haven't investigated it fully. Mostly due to being unable to access it." He glanced her way, waiting impatiently for the coat. "There is a laboratory under that particular location, and if I have access to it, I should be able to reverse whatever is weakening you."

Implements of torture made excellent crowbars. It didn't take her too long to strong arm the lock, but it took her far longer than she would have liked. With her powers, she would have been able to crack metal all on her own.

She ran the pluses and minuses of the plan over in her mind quickly. The problem really was that she had so little information - it was hard to make the best decision. So she'd make the best decision she could.

"Sounds like a plan," she said as she retrieved the lab coat and then walked over to hand it to him. She wasn't going to offer to help him dress. Whether or not he could do it would be a good assessment of how much she needed to help him during their trek. "Excuse me a moment."

She'd seen one of his jailers begin to stir out of the corner of her eye. While he made himself busy, Shayera went to hit them over the head again in a very business-like manner.

By the time she finished with the guard, he was on his feet, one hand on the wall to steady himself, the other holding shut the lab coat. He was a little unstable, and pulling himself to his feet had been a chore he had not enjoyed in the slightest, but he was standing. After a moment's pause to ensure that he wasn't about to fall over, he walked towards her, trailing his hand along the surface of the wall.

"I'm afraid I have no skills in combat. You'll have to defend me if we're to escape together.

Shayera assessed him quickly, "I don't think you'd be much good right now even if you were a Green Lantern."

She'd wanted to say 'Batman,' except the thing she'd seen him do in a similar state would put lie to those words. It had been good to be part of a team.

She handled the poker in a business-like manner. "I'll get you there. You just concentrate on moving as quickly as you can. I'm not strong enough like this to support you and fight."

"I shall strive to stay out of the way as much as possible, believe me. My death would be of no benefit to anyone. Thankfully, our mutual enemy is well aware of that, else I would already be dead." He gestured towards the door, shifting his weight from one foot to the other to test it. Steady enough, it seemed. "Lead on, my lady."

...it would be so incredibly humiliating to be hit on the back of the head as she attempted this 'rescue.' For all she knew, he was stronger than he seemed, and he'd use this opportunity to make a break for it and ditch her entirely.

Oh well. Nothing for it but to be ready for it, she supposed.

She glanced back at him, frowned, then bent to quickly pull off the comatose guard's shoes. "We need to go as quickly and as quietly as possible. You'll need these."

Removing them, she stood and handed them to John. If they were moving quickly through the asylum, there was a small chance that they wouldn't be immediately challenged and could bluff their way through - there was no chance of that at all, however, if they noticed he wasn't wearing shoes. And once they were out of the asylum, they would have to take to rough ground. These thirty seconds would save them time... and give her a further chance to evaluate his movement.

Ah, shoes. He was hoping for those at some point. He wasted no time dragging them onto his feet, keeping them nice and tight since they were a few sizes too big for him. Once they were on and secure he gave the toes a few light taps against the floor, then glanced back at her and nodded his thanks. He tucked the lab coat around himself more securely and straightened his back, attempting to keep his movement as natural and strong as he possibly could. Pain and weakness were a luxury that right now he could not indulge. Later, much later, when they were safe and the villagers had their abilities back, he could leave the rest to them and relax.

Now there was work to be done.

"All right, I believe I'm ready to go."

"Good," Shayera said. She started towards the door. "Let's move. We walk until we get out of here; running will just attract attention that we don't need."

All her senses, muffled as they were, were strained for a sign of approach.

"Have no fear of that. I don't think I could get much faster than a jog at this point. But I'll keep up, have no fear." And he proved it by keeping pace with her, just a few steps behind to give her space to handle any trouble that might come their way. He would greatly prefer not to get accidentally smacked by her makeshift weapon.

Shayera kept them moving at a steady pace, pausing frequently by corners and hallways to make sure the cost was clear. The problem, she knew, would be the main entrance. It would be better if they could find another way out. But she hadn't exactly had free run of this building.

Still, logically speaking... "Let's try down this hallway." It was a ground floor. Worst came to worst, she could bust out a window. Hopefully.

He studied the new route carefully, trying not to look as weary as he felt; the truth was, their escape was already taking more out of him than he was inclined to say. Things were starting to get familiar, though, and he'd been conscious for part of the way when he'd been brought in, so that was a good sign. At the end of the hall, he paused, turned around to face the way they'd come, then gives her arm a tap.

"I remember this. Take the next left- the front entrance will be heavily populated, and the chances of getting through without causing a scene is unlikely." Particularly since his appearance isn't exactly discreet. "There's a back door. When I was brought in, there were only two guards."
