What: A wedding and reception

Where: Cherry Blossom Hill / The Battle Dome
Summary: Pepper and Tony are getting married finally officially finally.
Rating: PG/PG-13 max? There's at least one kid here.
The decorations on the hill are simple ones; they've chosen this spot because it's naturally beautiful without the need for embellishments. Chairs have been set up for the expected guests, with a clear path laid out for the wedding party. And of course up front there is a place for those people to stand, in sight of everyone gathered so Tony won't be able to tell Pepper "I told you so" as color commentary won't be necessary.

After the ceremony everyone will be invited to go to the Battle Dome for the reception. There Tony's programmed an expansive hall with tables and seating enough for everyone. There's also a dance floor, which everyone is encouraged to take advantage of. The atmosphere is warm and vibrant, clearly intended to help all in attendance have a good time. Dinner will be served, and there's an open bar, with rum by request of the officiant.

Just don't get too rowdy, okay kids?

[Jack keeps watching the two, and sighs a sigh of relief when something else seems to catch Simon's attention and he (she? no, he, Jack can't see him any other way no matter what chromosomes he has)- he heads off in that direction for the time being.]

We really should have known he'd use the power of bosoms for evil.

We probably should. I'm not half as good at Runner Three wrangling as Jody is. Or Janine.

And I'm not half as good at keeping Eugene away from these things as . . . actually, scratch that. I don't think anyone's actually good at keeping Eugene from getting into tiffs when he wants to.

[Well, the only thing for it is to drink.]

Should we just let them get it out of their systems, do you think?

It's sad that we're the mature, rational, sane ones here, isn't it?

[And kind of horrifying considering most of the time Sam feels like a teenager still.]

I'm not sure they ever will but I don't know what we're going to do about it.

[Jack looks perfectly offended, or at least miffed, huffing at Sam insistently.]

You have lives in your hands every day, don't you? And I-! Well. I do important things sometimes.

Because I once sent Runner Five all across a zombie infested town to find D&D figures and paints?

[To be fair, Maxine had been there too and just as enthusiastic but that wasn't the point.

He snickers at Jack's assertion.]

Yes. How would we ever live without Days of Our Zombies?

Entertainment! [It's a correction, but an enthusiastic one, and Jack lifts his champagne in agreement before downing a good third of it in one go.] Entertainment is a legitimate human need, isn't it? These big brains all set to drive us crazy if we don't keep them amused.

I suppose there is that. And no-one wants too much time to think. Still... it's weird when I barely feel like more than a kid myself.

Aw, come on. You say that like it's a bad thing.

Well, when you're surrounded by people like the Major and Janine and Maxine, yeah. It is.

But you don't have to be all . . . you know, old and serious to do impressive stuff. I mean, god, a few centuries ago we'd be middle-aged by now, right?

I guess. Never really thought about it. I just don't want to let them down, y'know?

[Jack nods, taking another drink, before very deliberately looking at Sam and pointing.]

You . . . are being far too serious for a man at a wedding. Who is ostensibly talking about entertainment.

[Sam pouts slightly, but then laughs and takes a swig of champagne.]

I can't help it. It just sort of happens. I mean, everything at home is tinged with... well, when the walls break.

When the walls break? Sam! [Jack looks honestly put out, shooting Sam a mild frown.] The walls are great, all right? I mean, okay, maybe we don't live in a castle, but we've got good walls too.

[voiceinthedark]

[Sam shrugged, looking kind of miserable.]

You weren't there at the beginning. I stayed awake so many nights worrying that they were coming down. They're not that much better these days.

[Aw, hell, that's right. Sam is from the future. The cataclysmic, temporarily-sure-he's-dead future. It's easy to forget, with him and Simon, just because they're both so . . . them.

That won't stand, though. Jack fixes Simon with a determined look, then holds up a finger, already stepping back from the equipment.]

Stay here, I'll be right back, all right? We're going to talk about this.

[And then he's off - making a beeline right for the drinks table.]

[He's seen them be brought down and he knows that a horde big enough can bring down most walls. He's seen too many settlements fall.

He looks a little confused when Jack tells him to wait, but he does, looking just a little awkward.]

O-okay...

[Jack returns in short order. He returns with a mostly-full bottle of Patron, a small bowl of lime glasses, a saltshaker, and two glasses.

Oh yes. It is on.]

We are not in Abel. And we are going to prove it to ourselves the best way possible - by grossly neglecting our personal safety.

[voiceinthedark]

[Sam eyes the bottle and accompaniments with some trepidation.]

...you are insane. I'm fine! Really fine and...

Less talking, more tequila!

[Jack's already pouring two shots, nudging the lime wedges at Sam. Once the tequila is poured he licks the web between his thumb and index finger, peppering the damp skin with salt.]

You know how this works, yeah?

[voiceinthedark]

[Sam rolls his eyes and copies Jack's set up of the drink.]

Of course. I was a student you know.

Oh, of course, of course. All those awesome science parties.

[It's affectionate teasing, and Jack grins as he laves the salt off in a long, deliberate lick, taking his shot before biting hard into the flesh of the lime. It's fantastic, of course. Still tastes exactly like his most treasured mistakes.]

Engineering. Let's get things right here. While I'm still sober enough to remember.

[He follows suit, salt, shot and lime, shuddering as it hits him.]

[Jack watches the shudder with evident satisfaction, immediately pouring each of them a second shot, re-salting his hand in preparation for another go.]
