The first step is the one you believe in

Who: Pepper Potts, Tony Stark, and everyone who has gathered there today.
What: A wedding and reception
When: Sept 14, All Day
Where: Cherry Blossom Hill / The Battle Dome
Summary: Pepper and Tony are getting married finally officially finally.
Rating: PG/PG-13 max? There's at least one kid here.
The decorations on the hill are simple ones; they've chosen this spot because it's naturally beautiful without the need for embellishments. Chairs have been set up for the expected guests, with a clear path laid out for the wedding party. And of course up front there is a place for those people to stand, in sight of everyone gathered so Tony won't be able to tell Pepper "I told you so" as color commentary won't be necessary.

After the ceremony everyone will be invited to go to the Battle Dome for the reception. There Tony's programmed an expansive hall with tables and seating enough for everyone. There's also a dance floor, which everyone is encouraged to take advantage of. The atmosphere is warm and vibrant, clearly intended to help all in attendance have a good time. Dinner will be served, and there's an open bar, with rum by request of the officiant.

Just don't get too rowdy, okay kids?

{{ooc: Visual references and details can be found here. Link is very image heavy. There will be separate threads for before the ceremony, during, and the reception.

EDIT: Now with a sign up to catch the bouquet!}}

"Oh lovely. That is important, flooring. Though when I last saw it, it only had three walls. So I hope that the fact that you're both thinking of the floor means that winter won't be quite so tricky," she said with a slight smile. Maybe coming out of left field and battering Rogue with I-Know-Things-You-Don't-Know-I-Know wasn't terribly fair, however Vastra suspected Rogue had been standing next to the elephant in the room no one else would comment on. And so she did, because Vastra lived and breathed the social game and hadn't appreciated it being brought into a wedding.

"But I suppose you will be departing to help him once you're tired?" --of dodging the elephant in the room, perhaps.

"Yes, it's got a roof an' everything," Rogue nodded. She nodded, then glanced around the room. "I'm not plannin' on staying long."

Tired didn't even begin to cover it. But she needed to make sure she wouldn't spoil what was meant to be a happy day. She truly did wish Tony and Pepper every happiness. But right now, she wasn't sure what else she wished them.

"Mm, understandable," Vastra nodded as well, casually looking at the tables as though checking on the status of empty plates.

"Hm, I believe I may have carted too much wine over here. You wouldn't be interested in taking some of it when you take your leave, would you?"

Even if she was overseeing the execution of the reception, Vastra was not above this sort of mild subversion of things. Perhaps the gesture was a little less significant, given the entire reception hadn't exactly been paid for by the bride and groom, but she wanted to make some attempt instead of doing absolutely nothing.

Rogue's gaze returned quickly Vastra and she gave the other woman an assessing glance. It was evident even to Rogue that this was some kind of quiet statement of support. Her fingers tightened around her pendent. "Why are you being so nice about all this?" she asked quietly.

Vastra met the assessing glance with calm understanding. After all, Rogue didn't know much about Vastra, and Vastra couldn't say she knew terribly much about Rogue. Not because they were at odds, but the moment had never been right, really, and Vastra wasn't the sort to talk about her own life unprompted.

"I married my parlor maid in the year 1889 in London. You are not the only one who has experienced 'extreme concern' over voluntarily joining yourself to a 'monster'." Vastra had let the pointing and the screaming roll off of her, but Jenny... she had been devastated by her family's disowning her. "And you and Loki are not the only ones who have experienced certain prejudices. Different ones, but unappreciated ones nonetheless."

Rogue blinked slowly, absorbing that. Parlor maid? Monster? Vastra's appearance hadn't really phased her - when you had a brother that looked like Kurt and a mother that looked like whatever the hell she wanted, appearance tended to be a far more fluid concept - but she had assumed that Vastra came from an entire race of people like her. The implication of 'joining a monster' meant something... very different. As did 'marriage' which was not something currently legal in Rogue's time, but neither were parlor maids which made the whole thing very confusing.

But she was used to these inter-world headaches and abandoned the facts that were not currently relevant.

"I don't think it's necessarily about prejudice in this case," Rogue said, her ga ze flickering to Tony. She had his memory of Loki throwing her out the window, after all. She remembered just exactly how it felt; all the rage and grief at Coulson's death, the steely determination, and the terror as she... as he fell. Rogue shook her head slightly and then returned her gaze to Vastra. "But I appreciate the sentiment all the same."

She raised her mostly untouched glass in a toast in Vastra's directly and said a very sincere, "Thank you."

It was a kindness she hadn't received, not once, not from anybody. She didn't know quite what to do with it.

Vastra looked where she thought Rogue was looking, and she saw Tony. Ah, yes.

"People's values can shift. Mine did at a very crucial time in my life. And I would have slid right back into what I was before if I had been continuously treated with contempt. I had expected it, I am the last of my kind. But a little acceptance went a long way."

She raised her glass as well, smiling softly. "You're welcome."
