The first step is the one you believe in

Who: Pepper Potts, Tony Stark, and everyone who has gathered there today.
What: A wedding and reception
When: Sept 14, All Day
Where: Cherry Blossom Hill / The Battle Dome
Summary: Pepper and Tony are getting married ~~finally~~ ~~officially~~ finally.
Rating: PG/PG-13 max? There's at least one kid here.
The decorations on the hill are simple ones; they've chosen this spot because it's naturally beautiful without the need for embellishments. Chairs have been set up for the expected guests, with a clear path laid out for the wedding party. And of course up front there is a place for those people to stand, in sight of everyone gathered so Tony won't be able to tell Pepper "I told you so" as color commentary won't be necessary.

After the ceremony everyone will be invited to go to the Battle Dome for the reception. There Tony's programmed an expansive hall with tables and seating enough for everyone. There's also a dance floor, which everyone is encouraged to take advantage of. The atmosphere is warm and vibrant, clearly intended to help all in attendance have a good time. Dinner will be served, and there's an open bar, with rum by request of the officiant.

Just don't get too rowdy, okay kids?

[Simon gives him a bemused, baffled look, because that's a given and had nothing to do with this one way or another. Although his amusement grows at Sam's flustered protest.]

Of course you do. You get this flustered over all your Runners then.

How? That's the only reason you're flirting with me.

[He looks back for a moment, and huffs, wrapping his arms around himself.]

I- next time you survive a rocket launcher attack on a helicopter and outrun Van Ark's mind controlled zombies, then I'll get flustered.

What makes you think that? [Simon arches an eyebrow at that, looking entirely skeptical.] Sure, maybe its one reason, but it's hardly the only one.

[That comment drew a slight frown and a roll of his eyes.] Oh is that all? I'll get right on that. At least I don't also have to take down 300 with one blow. Piece of cake.

Well, it is. You flirt with everyone. And I'm a guy. And so are you under normal circumstances.

[And there was no reason for Simon to flirt with him apart from trying to fluster him.]

Although, if you could do that, it would be pretty awesome. And you'd probably get close to Ten's score.

Yes, and? It's not like that matters all that much to me. [Simon shrugged.] Besides. It's different. You're... you.

[He snickers at that.] I still say he cheated. Unfair advantage.

It doesn't? [Huh. He gives Simon a slightly curious look.] Well, yeah. I don't get why that makes a difference.

How did Chris cheat? He was just a- a genius!

Of course not. {Simon gives him a look that's both baffled and amused.] Why would it? And it makes all the difference. You're you.

Exactly my point. Unfair advantage.

Wait you... you like men as well? You always seemed pretty into girls.

[He looks back, seeming absolutely confused by what Simon's saying.] You make no sense.

[He rolls his eyes because this is an old argument.]

So what, if someone's smarter than you it's an unfair advantage. That's a lot of people, Three.

[He can't help but smirk at him.]

You're just now picking up on that? [That has Simon snickering for real now.] Why do you think Gene always gets so fussy when he catches me flirting with Jack? And I make perfect sense. You're just oblivious.

OI! [Simon looks mortally wounded by that comment, hand coming up to clutch at her heart. Although that gets aborted at the last moment because, well, boobs. But it's enough for Sam to get the picture.] That hurts, Sam.

Well I didn't know! [He says it plaintively, frowning slightly.] I dunno, I just thought he didn't like you much. And... wait, so...why the hell are you flirting with me?

[He snorts softly, shaking his head at the offence.]

You'll live.

[That earns him an eyeroll.] Why do you think people normally flirt with you, Sam?

Maybe. That was a low blow, Yao. A really really low blow.

...they don't. I mean, not often and not generally men. Maybe sometimes if they're taking the piss.

[He shrugs, because he's not really thought about it much.

He smirks at Simon.]

You left yourself wide open for it.

[Simon just sighs mournfully.] Oblivious. You are so oblivious. One of these days we'll break you of that. But it is pretty endearing, I gotta admit.

I did. I admit it. And here I thought you were the nice one of us.

I am not oblivious! Just... just realistic.

[The best he'd been able to hope for was cute, and sure, he'd had a couple of girlfriends, and Alice and him had been sort of serious, but that had been less about flirting.

He snorts at that, giving Simon an exasperated look.]

No you didn't. You've spent too much time around me.

I think that's more pessimistic than realistic, Sammy. What makes you think people wouldn't want to flirt with you?

[It's always sort of baffled him, Sam's insecurities about himself, when Simon couldn't see much reason for it. It's not as if he were bad looking, or boring, or anything like that. Simon's pretty sure that even back at Abel, Sam could have easily found someone to hook up with if he'd put a little effort into it. He'd managed with the old Five, hadn't he? And the new Five... well, there were still a great many bets circulating 'round about that, weren't there? Or there had been, before Luceti. Now it was sort of a moot point.

Simon just laughs at Sam's comment however, grinning with fond amusement.] Was that meant to say I've been a bad influence on you, or that I should know better, having known you as long as I have?

Um, experience?

[Not many people wanted to date a geeky Chinese kid who was never going to amount to anything. And then the apocalypse had happened and Alice had died and... what was the point when they might all die. And he still had to work with whoever rejected him.]

Maybe a bit of both. But you should know better.

Yes, because you've had so much of that. [Simon rolls her eyes again, giving Sam a fond look.] I think you sell yourself short, Sam.

I'll remember that for the future. If I recover from the mortal injury you may have dealt my ego.

I've had enough. I went to university. I'm not totally clueless y'know?

It doesn't matter what you think anyway. You don't want to go out with me.

[He smiles slightly at that, a wry expression.]

Pretty sure that you have more than enough ego to recover.

Apparently you are. What makes you think I wouldn't go out with you?

[Simon arched an eyebrow at that, tossing another piece of information out there to stump Sam and test the waters a bit. See how he would react to that. His expression was curious, nothing in it to give Sam the impression he was making fun.]

Maybe. You never know. It could be dwindling.

[That makes everything come to a grinding halt in his head and he just goes still for a moment, giving Simon a disbelieving look.]

W-well because... because you're you. And I- I'm me and...

[Simon's not sure whether to be amused by the dumbfounded expression on Sam's face or offended by it. Still, his expression remains wry as he gives Sam a crooked grin that's more sarcasm than actual humor.]

And Three's not a high enough number to catch Sam Yao's interest apparently. Knew I shoulda gone for thirteen.

It's got nothing to do with number. Besides, Cameo was already Thirteen when you became a runner so that wouldn't have worked.

Thanks for the reminder. [Simon rolled his eyes and narrowly avoided stepping on Sam's toes. Possibly by accident. Possibly not.]

[He gave him a baffled look, not sure what's brought on this weird behaviour.]

I didn't realise you were so set on being Thirteen. You never said anything.

I'm not. I didn't. Three's fine. Nevermind, Sam, that wasn't the point. Look, nevermind, it was silly. I'm thirsty. Are you thirsty? I want some more of that champagne, I think.
