Summary: Billy returns from a kidnapping feeling a bit, er, different. A white light envelops the village for just a moment, and when it fades... well. All kinds of things are different, actually.
Rating: Varies, anything above R take it elsewhere!

It starts off so innocently, early on the morning of October 1st. A burst of light, a warm rush of energy that consumes everything it touches, and it's gentle enough to feel like stepping out into sunlight from the shade. It's so brief that some people might not even notice it happened. But there are certainly... differences. Some subtle, some not. And those changed won't even understand the problem.

After all, why would perfection be a problem?

The truth is, there are no problems. There can't be. It's perfect, Billy thinks. Believes it. His belief is his reality, and now, it's their reality. It all has to be perfect; they deserve it, all of them, for one reason or another. And he'll do whatever he has to protect that perfection from being tainted, ruined, taken away from them.

Teddy died so this could happen, after all.

[A kiss had surely been waiting on the prince's list. But this motions just helps him feel all the warmer. He takes her in, wrapping his arms around her to tuck her snugly against that hat. He tilts his head so that it is just above hers and he kisses at her hair, quietly.

They could remain like that all day, in simple tranquility.]

[They absolutely could. Rue doesn't even notice whether there are people around, forgets entirely where in the village they are. The scent of early-autumn flowers and the breeze and the warmth of Mytho's arms, that is all she knows.]

I can't believe it.

[The rest of the world usually stops existing for the prince whenever he's around her. It's one thing to love all the people in his kingdom, but holding this woman so softly in his arms just felt so much more tender. There were a few fallen leaves deposited on his hair without notice; it didn't matter.]

What do you mean? Did I... do something wrong?

No! No, not at all, it's just...

[She can't spare the distance to move back and look up at him.]

This is the sort of thing you only ever read about in fairytales. It doesn't...happen to real people like me.

I don't understand. Rue... Life is a fairy tale. It's one that we're all part of. And your role in it... is the most precious.

No, life is...life is real. And you're real, even though this feels like it is far too wonderful to be real.

I feel like you're the one who is too wonderful to be real.

If we are both so wonderful, then we must be real.

Yes. [That's all he whispers in response as he soothingly runs a hand through her hair and down her neck.]

[As much as she wants to stay here all day, or maybe forever, she has things to do and reluctantly pulls away from Mytho's embrace.]

Do you want to come with me and finish tending the gardens?

[And as she pulls away, he softly lets his arms slide down hers until at least one of her hands is still holding one of hers. Mytho the prince gives a sincere smile.]
