[It's October 10th and birthday preparations in the Uzumaki household have been finalized. Since Naruto had invited the whole village and there's no way that many people could fit inside their house, they opted for making the back garden party-ready instead.

Picnic tables have been set up outside, decorated with confetti. There are separate ones that hold all the food and drinks, and the entire garden has been decorated with balloons and streamers.]

[ooc: As it says, this is an open log for Naruto's party. Even if you didn't reply to his announcement feel free to show up, since everyone got invited. Make your own threads and go crazy :v]

[Once Itachi had properly scared the wits out of his son, Minato approaches him when he sees him somewhere in the party. He has a calm, gentle smile on his face when he does so.]

Ah, Itachi. I'm glad you can make it.

[Minato briefly wonders about his brother, Sasuke, though. He hasn't seen him lately, at least not so much, when he knows just how important Sasuke is to his son.]

[Itachi is holding, of all things, a bright pink balloon with a smiley face drawn on it in permanent marker. It was a gift from Shikamaru, and the ninja wastes no time in casually passing said gift to the birthday boy's father.

He holds the item out, expression weary. Accept the balloon, y/n?]

[Y!! At least, Minato accepts the balloon with a sheepish smile because, while this is a party, it's amusing to see Itachi with such a toy when he's already this old. If he was holding such a balloon when Minato was still back in their world, where Itachi's still a young boy, he'd understand.

Maybe now that the balloon is in his possession, he'd look amusing too.

He doesn't dwell on this for too long, though, as he places a hand on the other ninja's shoulder, his expression almost mirroring the balloon's. Fugaku and Mikoto were good friends and if Kushina took it upon herself to act as a surrogate mother to Sasuke, perhaps he should act as a father figure for both Uchiha brothers. It's the very least he can do for the plight they ended up in due to decisions that weren't well-thought of.]

Have you tried some of the food? My wife's a great cook. [At this point, Minato would probably try and escort him to the food table.] Oh, I think you should try some cake, too.

[Itachi lets himself be led over just because he's not the sort to protest. He hasn't had any of the food yet - had just intended to bring some home to his partner. If Minato is going to insist, though...]

Ah... It looks good.

It tastes even better.

[He chuckles at his proud comment and even goes so far as to get Itachi his plate and chopsticks for him. If the other man doesn't get them from him, Minato might as well also get him his food.]

Go on, try some. If you end up liking them, I might arrange for Kushina to pack some so you can take them home to your housemate.

[He picks the word "housemate" but Minato knows they're far beyond that. He's not the Yondaime Hokage if he's not up to date with his Konoha shinobi. (That, and they're practically neighbors.) But he won't say anything else because that's stepping on boundaries he's respectful enough to avoid.

I had intended to do the latter regardless.

[He turns his head toward the assortment on the table, one sharingan spinning active so that he can actually see what's on it, as his last comment had been based more on smell than actual sight. It automatically strays to items he'd be alright with eating, those lacking meat of any sort.

People being set on feeding him here is the reason he looks healthier nowadays than he did when he first arrived.]

[Minato notices the sharingan and just watches him with a calm smile before he goes back to the assortment laid out in front of them.]

My wife likes to cook healthy dishes when she can. She's trying to make Naruto eat more vegetables, so I'm sure you can find healthier food around.

That will be good for him.

[Not that he took much notice of Naruto's eating habits before.

He can't exactly turn this sort of thing down with the Fourth Hokage insisting, so he does carefully fill a plate for himself. If he wasn't sure he was hungry, the smell brings it out of him.]
