What: Halloween Costume Ball
When: The night of October 31st
Where: Luceti’s district in Malnosso World
Summary: Put on your dancing shoes, ghosts and ghoulies, because it’s time for a grand Halloween party!

On the morning of the 31st, Lucetians would find a peculiar envelope on the doorstep of their villas. Addressed to the whole household, the envelope contained an invitation, black as night and embossed with ornate, orange lettering. What was it for? A Halloween Ball, of course. Attendance was entirely voluntary, and costumes would even be provided upon arrival! And with what a blast Malnosso World has been, who would suspect any foul play from their overlords?

Regardless of what attendees show up in, as soon as they step onto the ballroom floor, they will be Shifted into a costume. Maybe it’s the same as what they came in. Maybe it’s a sheet ghost. It could be anything! But as long as they remain at the party, they will be stuck in that same outfit.

And hopefully it’s good for dancing in, because the dance floor is on fire! Literally. Well, the perimeter of it, anyway. Don’t worry - the fire won’t hurt! It’s just for atmosphere, and fire is far from the only thing decorating the outdoor ballroom. An eerie fog coats the dance floor, and while there are no stars in the sky to light the ballroom floor, there are lit jack-o-lanterns and sconces hovering in the air all around. The jack-o-lanterns are harmless enough, but if someone is being a wallflower, they may just find one hovering over their shoulder, spooking them into participating. And did we mention the bats flying around? Yeah, there are bats. Completely harmless.

Let’s not forget the band on stage, either, a seasoned and highly sought-after group booked just for Luceti’s party this evening. They play everything from Bach’s Toccata in D to the Monster Mash to Ghostbusters. And, of course, Thriller. They’ll keep playing until the dancers are bone-tired!

No Halloween party would be complete without a vast landscape of treats. On the far side of the dance floor attendees can find traditional Halloween candies, Halloween-shaped bakery goods such as cookies, cakes, and cupcakes, eyeball punch for the kiddies, and something harder for the adults that looks an awful lot like blood (it’s not, we promise!). There are other “treats” set out as well, such as a platter of severed fingers and lizard eyes, but they’re not really what they look like. Probably. Oh, and be careful around some of the desserts - they might just bite back!

The party will last late into the evening, until the band quits and spectral janitors arrive to sweep away the big mess left behind by the Lucetians. Hopefully they won’t be sweeping up any limbs, but then again, it might be befitting of the occasion.

It is Halloween, after all.

[Nothing wrong with a good party, amirite? When Nami gets there, she's wearing a modified cutesy witch costume with long sleeves and a broom. The brown wig has gone and instead she's just chosen to dye her hair a much deeper red.

Which may be why when she steps onto the floor, the Malnosso apparently decide she'd look much better as Poison Ivy instead, and for a moment she freezes, before realising all limbs are intact and that was just the powers that be apparently being fashion snobs. Well. No biggie. It's only a few moments later, when she's halfway to the drinks table, that she realises that this means the swordfish tattoo on her arm is clearly visible, and she stops dead in the middle of the room.

...before continuing on more hurriedly straight for the drinks table (hahaha, everything's normal!) to get herself something strong and vanish into a corner somewhere. Ten minutes from now she'll be leaving again, unless otherwise distracted. Which naturally, everyone is encouraged to do.]

Ororo had some misgivings about the tacky little invitation that had showed up on their doorstep that morning. But given that the week had been relatively uneventful and mostly harmless so far, it stood to reason that this little party would follow suit, wouldn't it? So it's out of curiosity that she finds herself at the ballroom later that night, drawn by the music and the thought that, if things went wrong, she could at least try to help make things right.

The costume she was Shifted into was received with a bit of dry surprise. But it at least gave her an excuse to steer clear of the dance floor (and its flames) since she didn't think she could move all to much in it, anyway. Instead she hovered by the spread of treats. She's charmed and... kind of repulsed by them in turns, but she was having a good time, all things considered. At least the music was turning out to be interesting.

[Getting the invitation was like the cherry on top of her best week ever. Of course she'd attend a lavish, spooky themed ball on the best holiday she could have ever hoped to celebrate! And they even provided a costume this time so she didn't have to feel pressured to pick through all the ones she found during the week! Ah, this place just keeps getting better and better~! ♥ It'd be best if she never left, or the festivities never ended.

Perona hurries to the ballroom, eyes lit up brighter than the numerous jack-o-lanterns, but her face falls the second she catches a look at what she's been shifted into. The businessy clothes aren't so bad - she even has a belt with a skull buckle - but the thing that makes her scream with horror is...is...

This monstrosity. Her top hat was even remade to be pale white with a pin fashioned like the marine seagull. She tugged and pulled, but despite Perona's best efforts, the blasted coat and hat would not come off, no matter how hard she tries, and eventually she gives up her efforts, growling and grumbling and looking just plain miserable. She'll be by the snacks and especially the drinks, hoping to drown her irritation in alcohol. Maybe if she's drunk, she won't notice the revolting costume she poofed up in.]

How degrading...I-I may vomit if I see my reflection again! Just when I was having fun--! Why did I have to end up in this outfit?!

[Rock Lee spent a lot of the day hyping himself up for the party. Surely it was the best way to stave off the loneliness he felt. He'll try to talk any reluctant villamates into attendance as well.

He was fully prepared to go in his Gai costume - which is not quite different from how he normally looks - but entering the ball shifts him into something else entirely. This, specifically.

He at first tries to make chit-chat until a passing humanoid from another enclosure scoffs at how he isn't even acting like a mime. So, after diving into handy notes on him that he had taken back at the library which happened to include some basics about mimery, he spends the rest of the evening entirely silent to commit himself to the role of being a mime. If he's a good mime, people won't leave him alone right?

A. Watch him as he does a number of odd movements. Is he dancing, is he miming, is it both? Watch out, now he's doing it at you!
B. Or, it's horror time! Some time late in the night, Lee winds up drinking some alcohol thanks to the unwitting efforts of a certain Staw Hat pirate. He'll be silently challenging people to fights and making a wreck of the place until he's dealt with.]

[A Halloween Ball... She hadn't been to many of those before, to say the least, and all she had to do was show up? Well, why not? If something went wrong she would just have to find a way out! Easy! Although, when she walked through the door she didn't quite expect this. It kind of lost its effect since she had no idea what an idol was, but oh well.

While the dancing wasn't her thing, she did help herself to the candies and inspected the floating jack-o-lanterns. Would anyone notice if she took one home? Hmm. Oh, and she was also helping herself to the punch that looked like blood, but no one would notice that either, right?

Raine really had not been planning on attending; she had experienced her share of balls at amusement parks before and the irony of that is not lost on her.

Somehow, either coerced by a friend or purposely accompanying one just to see what's up, Raine arrives and promptly finds herself stuck in a mermaid costume, which she responds to with a face palm. Of course.

At least the colors in her outfit bring out the blue part of her wings. For the most part she observes - well, until she's harassed by a few jack-o-lanturns to get out there.

[He'd promised to go to this thing because it'd sounded like fun. Who didn't like a good ol' party, right? Beat had been ready for good food and music when he stepped into the party place, but that good mood tanked the moment he saw his costume.]

WHAT THE HELL?!

[Why couldn't he get one of the cool costumes?!]

[After riding every ride possible, talking to all the people possible and getting a little bit too high off the amount of candy corn provided in the theme parks, Walter found himself at a party. A wonderful party with skeletons playing a band and holographic fire around a dance floor and food that seemed to bite back. It was exactly what he wanted for Halloween! And it took his mind off everything that had been bothering him for the past few days.

It was strange how comfortable his costume was, what with the long robes and chainmail - and a sudden lengthening of his hair - but it seemed to fit him so well that he didn't mind. He had no idea where the costume came from, but that was secondary to him poking at the eyeballs in the punch with a spoon to see if they'd blink or testing to see if the severed fingers still reacted to stimulus.

Walter can be found anywhere at the party, even dancing on the floor when a particularly good song comes up, or after he's had a few drinks.]

[Even if she wasn't in the partying mood, when the rest of her house decided to go, there was little she could do to stay home. Besides, a little music and dance (even if it was mostly by herself) would help her get her mind off things. Unfortunately for her, it seemed the Malnosso didn't want her to forget because the moment she stepped into the event hall, her tasteful red dress was replaced with a pin-up version of the very man she didn't want to think of that night.

Vintage though it may have been in some respects, Peggy was feeling the draft of having no pants or even so much as a skirt on and decided that staying toward the walls was prudent. At least the shield afforded her some measure of protection against any prying eyes, but the pumpkins that hovered over her shoulder certainly weren't making her feel any better.

Eventually, she tried mingling near the tables to make them go away, but as for the dance floor, she was trying to stay away from it.]

[The trip so far hadn't been that bad. He'd spent most of his time playing in the various lands, keeping away from the Thrill Rides and trying to avoid the lines for that Paddleboat thing since it just seemed silly. Instead, he found himself with a few new stuffed animals from the games and a good amount of time lost watching people gamble. By the laws of the Shinsengumi, he wasn't allowed to participate, but that didn't mean he couldn't watch.

When the invitation arrived on his doorstep, Souji was more than happy to go. He wasn't even that displeased with his surprisingly comfortable cat costume. He even had comfy slippers on which also looked like cat paws and it made the entire thing very relaxing compared to the other costumes he was seeing. The only problem was the large yellow bell that hung from his neck which got in his way when he moved - mostly because it tended to spew glitter when it rang. None of it ever got on him, but anyone he happened to be near would find themselves imitating a disco ball should he sneeze or shake in their general direction.

So of course Souji made it his personal mission to find every single person he knew and shake at them so they were covered in glitter.

It was only fair.]

[Elizabeth had read about Halloween before, but she was almost vibrating when the invitation arrived at the door. Her very first Halloween party, and it was a ball.]

[Thank goodness the costumes came provided, because Elizabeth honestly had no idea what to be. When she arrives at the ball, the costume she ends up in is a little surprising. It looks like someone ran out of costumes and stitched together pieces of other ones. Though the blue skin and very realistic stitching is new...]

[Well, it was better than the man dressed like a bunny. And Elizabeth is off to be fascinated by anything and everything at this party.]

[ Considering the Halloween party has traditionally served as the reprieve from all the terrible things going on around this time of year... despite a strange yet distinct lack of terrible things, Joshua is not one to push his luck when it comes to the Malnosso's unique ability to dredge up traumas best left buried.

Which means that Joshua has been graciously gifted with what might be a familiar costume to much of the populous (the one on the left, sans sword of course), giving him an outfit rainbow-y enough to match his feathers. He is rocking that skirt and those pigtails and he will not hear a word otherwise.

Also he will be getting a bit drunk as the night rolls on, though he's careful not to get too smashed. Joshua does, after all, have the metabolism of a 15-year-old boy.

Both genders can expect to be asked for a dance, or perhaps just dragged into a conversation before they realize it. Either or. ]

[So far, Ion wasn't too thrilled with Malnosso World. He didn't like how they were brought here, and he didn't like how crowded it was -- especially when it make it so easy for people to get separated. But when the invitation for a Costume Ball showed up, well, how could he possibly refuse?]

[He's not even that bothered by his costume, since really aside from the cut in the skirt area, it's not all that different from the robes worn in the order. Though it was certainly rather tight-fitting in the hip area. He's so thin the cut of the dress gives the illusion of a feminine figure -- that part, he would have much rather done without.]

[Ion always enjoyed the dances thrown by Luceti's citizens in the past, and tonight is no different! He'll be seeking out people he knows for a dance, but will also be spending a great chunk of the evening dancing with Kohan. Which will ultimately amount to a dance lesson, but Ion's enjoying himself regardless. He'll have a smile on his face practically the whole night.]

[ It was only for lack of something better to do that Saten finds herself at the party, and soon after receiving her costume she's finding herself wishing she'd just stayed out by the pool some more.

If there's any real part of it she doesn't like, it's how stuffy the... head piece is (she is of course completely unfamiliar with what a motorcycle is, much less what a helmet for one is). It's uncomfortably warm and a bit hard to breathe in, and it makes the whole "eating" and "drinking" things she was just barely starting to pick up the proper habits for into all but impossible endeavors. Heaven forbid the Malnosso let her remove the helmet. Best she could do was lift the visor, which she only really discovered she could do at all by accident. The rest of the costume she can deal with just fine.

It's almost a shame that powers are still capped, considering her favored scythe would have matched the outfit quite nicely.

Saten will be spending her time wallflowering it up, though every so often she can be spotted trying to sneak treats from the tables and somehow get them into her mouth through a motorcycle helmet visor. ]

[Kari was enjoying herself -- somewhat. For some reason, the presence of all these guys around here was making her far more uncomfortable than it would on a normal day, and it was rather distracting, really. Her costume was more than enough to make up for it, though. She felt amazing, even if she was still stuck as herself!]

[But then she sees her other self walking around.]

[And her other self is a man.]

[Oh hell no..]

No... no! What the hell!? Take that off!

[ ... You know Kari, normally he gets much more familiar with someone before they're ordering him out of clothes. Just saying. ]

... Why? Are you that desperate to see me naked?

[ He can keep your secret if you can, dear. ]

Oh, shut up, you slimy little--

[She was starting to take a step towards, and probably would have gone ahead and punched him or something if only to make herself feel better. But as soon as she gets within 5 feet of him, she freezes. And then takes a step back, trying to hide how uncomfortable she's suddenly become behind how angry she is.]

...at... a-at least wear a coat over that or something! You look ridiculous!

[Jade was skeptical of the invitation - but that gave him all the more reason to attend. If the ball did turn out to be some sort of a trap in any way, he felt confident that even without his fonic artes, he could play a role in protecting others. Not to mention that it gave him another chance to work at suppressing his newfound phobia of women. The sooner he could get himself to stop getting as spastic as Guy whenever a female drew close or made physical contact with him, the better.

He had been going to attend simply in his evil fonist costume, but the ball itself had other plans in mind. He was changed into... a very unusual costume. His hair suddenly unruly and it all felt unusually tight on him. It was enough to make him sigh and pinch at the bridge of his nose.

Jade knows just some simple ballroom dances - enough for him to survive formal Malkuthian formal events that he'd reluctantly attended in the past. But for the most cast, he simply walks about casually and tries to make conversation as if he's just wearing some everyday outfit. He acquires some of the severed finger treats, simply for the purpose of pulling pranks. And he settles near the drinks table to help himself to some wine if there's available. All the while, he builds up his fortitude to test his control over his phobia by asking someone to dance.

Of course, the band itself seems oddly aware of Jade's costume. Whenever he's on or near the dance floor, they take to playing some particular songs from a certain soundtrack.]

[Raven remembered the masquerade party. It wasn't great, but it was sort of fun, and she knew that some of the people she liked the best would be at this party thing, too. Besides, she missed having a festival at the end of the season, even if this one wasn't really about the crops and harvest.

The atmosphere is a little too creepy for her even from the start, with all the floating pumpkins and candles. At least most of the jack-o-lanterns sport friendly faces, even if the flickering within turns them sinister in her peripheral vision. The moment she enters the vicinity of the dance floor, her whole appearance changes, though her hair retains its length if not its color. Friends will recognize her by the usual unimpressed expression.

Then she sees the band.

Raven will do everything possible for the rest of the night to keep away from that side of the 'room'. Just looking in that direction makes her shiver and shake. Not to the rhythm of the music, either.]

[Makie, of course, didn't come in costume, and actually came mainly because she's never received an invitation to anything in her life. It feels rude to turn it down. Priorities. 8|

Of course, when she gets there she's discomfitted by the schoolgirl outfit that the Malnosso see fit to put her in, complete with leather school bag (it's stuffed with tissue paper). It's not that it's particularly indecent by modern standards, but...

Then she takes one look at the bizarre food and retreats into full wallflower mode. Anyone can find her having a level staring match with a jack-o-lantern or three.]

[When Yukiko arrived to the dance, she actually decided on a cute cat costume because she wanted to do something a little different for once.

But then when she got Shifted, it turned into this terrible excuse for a costume. Needless to say, unamused priestess was unamused and tried to keep her lower area covered.

That and running away to the nearest dark corner to hide.]

[No amount of bizarre children's entertainment will stop Rue from coming to a dance, of all things; as usual, if she can find Mytho in time, she'll tote him along with her. Everyone in costume reminds her of the evening of the Fire Festival - the dance floor is lit by flame from all sources, even - and how wonderful and terrible that moment had been, at the same time. Dancing with him and seeing him smile.

It's worse once she steps onto the dance floor and finds herself dressed as someone she knows. Or similar enough (she's a ballerina, she recognizes the costume from its proper performance) to make her turn her head, try to visualize her damning black wings against the perfect white of the costume.

Eventually, though, she'll give over and just dance. By herself if need be, it's a ballet costume after all.]

[ Ikki won't be staying too late, because she's spent the day at the park and while she seems to have limitless energy a lot of times, that just isn't true. Also, bedtimes. But probably to the surprise of no one, a party invitation interested her, and she likely shows up with Aang or a group of people WHO KNOWS.

The costume shift apparently decides that her butterfly costume passes muster, because she gets to keep it on, and happily so. Expect her to explore the room, shriek at a bat, and try to catch a jack-o-lantern to talk to. She stares and points at the band for a second or two initially, but seems used to them pretty quickly.

Dancing? Yes, of course! Ikki doesn't really know any of the dances being played, so she'll either improvise or will happily learn the steps if someone offers. She's likely to ask people to dance with her whether or not she knows them; the only requirement is looking not busy.

...More than that, though, you can find Ikki at the sweets table. It's Halloween, right? That means she can maybe have more candy than usual, right? Maybe? Please? Although man will she be offended if a dessert bites her. HOW RUDE. If that happens, expect a certain amount of outrage and dropping whatever-it-was, and possibly some caution about the dessert table, although she'd still hover nearby. ]

[ Prim's probably the only person in her villa who actually wanted to go to the ball, upon getting the invitation. Malnosso World seemed pretty low-key and not too dangerous (at least, nothing was happening to them) but that didn't entirely erase paranoia, but also - she was pretty much the most socially inclined by nature. So. Regardless, she'd have asked the others along, and will be cautiously cheerful about the whole thing, although lower-key than other certain girls.

She doesn't arrive in costume, but is shifted into an Alice in Wonderlnad get-up - the reference escapes her, but she doesn't mind it particularly, although she pauses to take in what happened. They did say costumes would be provided, but being shifted into them was still surprising.

Prim will spend most of her time dancing, if she can get away with it, although she might try some of the refreshments. ...The ordinary-looking ones, at least. Nothing can convince her to try the severed fingers or the lizard eyes, and she's a little wary about the eyeball punch, too. Why would you ever. ]
