Who: Anyone and everyone
What: Guy Fawkes/Bonfire Night celebration
When: The evening of November 5th, of course
Where: Out in a conveniently clear patch of land outside the village where nothing will set on fire.
Summary: November 5th is Bonfire Night for all of those of British origin and for anyone else, well, fireworks and a bonfire and good food can't exactly hurt right?
Rating: PG

It had taken a fair amount of work to get this set up, but by the time people arrive, there's a large bonfire roaring in a cleared out area and a table of food and drink set out for anyone feeling a bit peckish. He has gone all out; pork pies and mushy peas,
parkin, bonfire toffee, all of these are set out along with whatever else he thought people might enjoy. There are also drinks of all kinds, from juice to mulled wine and beer.

Of course, the main event is the fireworks, which are let off once everyone has arrived and settled down to watch them.

Would she? It's a good question. It's a very good question. She never exactly paused to give thought to what she's been doing with him. Why would she? It's been fun and fun is... it's good, isn't it? Not to have any complications. Not to worry about screwing anything up.

Because she's so, so good at that. Maybe it's a Hawkeye thing, but she's never known either of them to be good at it.

Kate ducks her head before she nods. "I think I would."

He looks a little surprised by her answer, then turns thoughtful. He reaches out, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and tugging her up close against his side.

"There might have been. But it was the end of the world there. We took comfort where we could find it."

Huh. This isn't exactly the nightmare she played out in her head. He's pulled her closer to him rather than shoving her away. And the explanation is honest. She can do honest. She prefers honest.

But her heart is starting to pound in her chest a lot like that night they first had sex. It's so utterly girly and ridiculous and she hates it just a little.

"What if they showed up here? Now?"

Simon snorts softly. "Janine? Here? God, the first order of business would be building a bunker a safe distance from the village and then putting up walls. Just in case. She'd spend the next three months or so stockpiling supplies and preparing for the worst. It'd be a while before she remembered that people are... well. People."

His voice holds fond amusement as he rolls his eyes, then glances down at Kate. "And then she'd spend every waking moment trying to figure out how to get back home, despite the fact that that world is crawling with zoms. A place I'm quite happy never going back to. I'm not sure what she'd do with that difference of opinion. She's always been more responsible than me."

She meets his gaze and can't help but grin at the fondness in his voice. She knows life is rough for both him and Sam back in their world. She can't blame the boys for never wanting to go back. Jack and Eugene, too. For a moment, she wonders if it's possible to bring them back to her 'verse.

But that's not the point of this conversation. That's just her stupid mind wandering. God, she's so bad at this.

"What about you?" The words come out more awkwardly and uncertain than she cares to admit. "What would you do if she came here?"

"I don't know."

The answer's honest and he meets her gaze again, holds it. It's blunt, but it's the truth.

"I don't know what I'd do. I suppose... I'll have to cross that bridge if we ever come to it." He pauses, then tilts his head to the side. "What about you?"

She doesn't wilt under that gaze. Instead she holds it steady. Kate's never been one to back down from any sort of fight. Even if it's just a contest of wills.

God, even if she's not certain what she's doing right now. Not one bit.

"What about me?"

His lips quirk, just a bit.

"Any jealous boyfriends likely to show up brandishing baseball bats or superpowers in my general direction?"

For a second, she thinks back to Eli. And Tommy. But what she shared with Tommy hadn't been real. Whatever that whole perfect world Billy created meant, the people in it weren't them. Tommy had grown up in a family that loved him. She had never been assaulted in Central Park.

She decides quickly enough that it doesn't count.

"No. Not unless..." Kate bites her lip for a moment. This is a stupid idea. In the history of stupid ideas, this has to be the stupidest. She doesn't do relationships. She doesn't know how. "Unless you wanna be?"

"What, the jealous boyfriend or the one having threatening objects brandished at?" he teases her, keeping his tone light as he glances down. He brushes his fingertips along her jaw when she bights her lip, not missing her sudden nervousness.

It's only been, what, days? Most normal people date for weeks - or is it months? - before a relationship forms. But even if Kate's world isn't apocalyptic like Simon's, her life might as well be. She's a superhero and there's absolutely no denying her chosen profession. That means life is short.

Yup, stupidest idea ever. She's probably going to just scare him away, isn't she?

"...the first?"

Simon blinks. Then blinks again. Did she just...?

"What the hell is wrong with the guys in your world? "

How in the world was he going to be her first when she was.. well, her?

Kate blinks in return, leaning away from him enough to be able to stare at him more sharply. That was so not the answer she expected.

"What?"

"Your first. You're serious?" he asks, still looking baffled, then shaking his head in dismal dismissal of her world. "Their loss," he added a moment later and leaned in to kiss her, cupping a hand at the nape of her neck as he drew her in again.

"We can give it a try? If that's what you're wanting?"

When he puts it like that, she feels a little ridiculous. Here she is, all of twenty years old, and she's never had a boyfriend before. Because there's a far cry from having the potential and actually being in a relationship.

But the kiss is a nice distraction and she eagerly kisses him back, tugging a little on his lower lip before pulling away.

"Is that what you want?"

"I'm not sure I'm all that great at the responsible relationship business," he answers, giving her a crooked grin, his expression wry. "In fact, I might be terrible at it. Supposedly, I flirt like I breathe, or so I've been told on several occasions. But Katie, I wouldn't be here right now if I didn't want this. Whatever it is."

Despite how fast it had happened, the attraction had been there and growing since the moment he'd met her.

His words make her smile and giggle like a stupid, foolish schoolgirl. It's been a long time in coming since a guy's said anything like this to her. Since Eli, really, and she butchered that one up pretty quickly. It's probably only a matter of time before she messes this one up, too, but...

"Just don't go sleeping with other people and you've got yourself a girlfriend, Zombie Boy."

"Aye aye, ma'am," he salutes her playfully, attempting a serious expression and pretty much failing horribly at it.

"I'm serious," Kate answers, leaning up to steal a quick kiss. He's adorable sometimes. Insanely hot other times. He doesn't care about her family's fortune and he's definitely not dull-witted. And he's hers now, isn't he? When did she get so lucky. "You don't want to be on the pointy end of one of my arrows."

...a pause.

"Unless you're into the kinky stuff. Are you into the kinky stuff?"

His smirk turns downright devious at that and he leans close, closer... and snags a marshmallow from the bag beside her and pops it in his mouth.

"I guess you're going to have to figure that out, aren't you?"

Her eyes darken as he leans in closer. Is he going to kiss her again? God, she hopes that he kisses her again. Her heart starts to beat fast in anticipation and then...

Marshmallows? Over her?

Kate slaps his arm. Ass.

"Let me guess. S'mores fetish?"

Simon just laughs and doesn't even bother to dodge her smack, knowing he'd earned that one. "Nope. Just a fondness. Marshmallow?" he offers with a smirk, holding one up for her.

"Yes," she answers, reaching for his wrist and bringing his hand up to her mouth. Kate glances up at him from behind hooded eyes, almost shyly biting the marshmallow from his fingers. She keeps them there a second longer to lick the sugar off, remembering how he had reacted when she had played with his fingers on the boat.

Marshmallows and Simon. Not a bad combination.

His gaze narrowed on her for that little ploy. "You're trying to make me forget we're in public again, aren't you?"

Her eyes glisten with mischief. Y'know, she could get used to having a boyfriend if this is what it means.

"Would you really mind if I did?"
