[After a lot of preparation, opening night for Luceti's newest club is finally here. The music is loud and insistent, the kind where you have to shout a bit to be heard above the noise. Flashing, moving lights above reveal the purple decor, mostly devoid of chairs, and plenty of room to dance. A well stocked bar should be able to provide liquid courage to anyone too nervous to shake there groove-thang sober, while a patio out back affords a space for anyone wanting to have more intimate (or just quieter) interactions. There's also a coat room, for anyone looking for a warmer spot for intimate interactions.

The doors open at seven, and will stay open until two am-- plenty of time to drink, dance, talk and generally have a good time. When the DJs aren't spinning, a house mix is put on, so there's never a quiet moment.]

['Mutant.' She's heard that word before. Katara cocks her head slightly to the side.] Are you from the same world as Kurt?

[Move things with her mind and communicate telepathically... like Ino. She wonders if that meant Jean could slip inside people's bodies and control them in the same way Ino could. She wonders if Jean is a threat. She wonders if she cares; so little seems to have meaning right now.

It's with relief that she realizes she does care, but not to the same sort of paranoid reaction she'd had when first learning about Ino.]

Kurt, yes! Kurt and I come from the same place. [Well. Generally. Connecticut is a far cry from Bavaria, but in the grand scheme of things, yes, the same place.]

That must be tremendously useful, having-- water bending. What a wonderful power! [Jean is everyone's cheerleader, especially if that person seems a little down, like Katara does.]

So you're a friend of his? [After all, she and Azula came from the 'same place' and she could hardly call them friends.]

[Katara smiles, still that echo of sadness that she can't quite seem to shake keeps it from being something entirely proud.] It's an ancient art unique to our culture. And you're right, it's pretty useful.

Yes, good friends-- when he's not drinking straight out of the milk carton, at least. [She laughs.]

You must be very honored, to wield such an art.

I've always thought of it that way. [Though it might be a little harder to hear her - the music is loud, and her voice a little soft. It was a big honor. And a big responsibility. She'd been the only waterbender born to her tribe in almost seventy years. Learning to master her her abilities has been one of the driving forces of Katara's life.]

Hmm? [Jean has to lean a little closer, to hear.]

I'm sure, when you go back, you'll do great things for your world. [She offers, encouragingly.]

['When you go back.' Oh, ha. Ha haha ha. 'Do great things.' Oh yes. She knew all about them. She knew all about what she would do, she knew it down to her grandchild living with her.

There was no point in taking it out on the other girl; Katara could see that she meant well. But she was making assumptions that left her uncomfortable and, she could see quite unintentionally, rubbed salt in some of the deepest wounds this place had given her.

She shakes her head slightly.]

I think that you're trying to be nice. I can't think of any other reason why you'd say that. After all, we've only just met. [She reaches over to take her glass.] I hope you enjoy the party, Jean.

[Jean is 100% unaware of what it is, exactly, she said to upset the girl. It's tempting to read her mind to find out, but-- to what end? Sometimes you just have a swing and a miss.]

I'm sorry, if I upset you, it wasn't my intent. I do hope you enjoy yourself, as well, though.

I can tell you didn't mean to. But you don't know anything about my world, and you don't know anything about me. I don't need to hear about what I'll do for my world when I can't get back to it. I've heard all about what happens; I know what I still need to do.

[She catches herself and takes a deep breath.]

I guess some things even music this loud can't drown out. [She decides to leave her glass where it is. In fact, she decides to leave completely. She nods and decides to leave it at that. Katara's not trying to ruin Jean's time. Some part of her is aware that the intrusion and cut weren't meant to hurt. She's trying to leave without pouring out a whole bunch of pain and frustration and anger that just don't have any place here.]

[Confusion. Confusion everywhere. Jean quickly replays the conversation in her head, but-- nope. She can't tell where this is coming from.

She will agree, however, that knowing the future can be more of a burden than it's worth.]

Well... I wish you all the best. And I apologize again.

[She's not even sure if other girl is still listening, but it doesn't matter. Jean is clearly not the sort of person she needs in her life right now. Disappointing, but the last thing she wants is to add to the girl's problems. Perhaps she'll try striking up a conversation some other time. But not tonight.]
