Get Bent for a Birthday

Who: The Investigation Team and friends.
What: A small birthday party for a big guy.
When: January 19th
Where: Yu's apartment
Summary: It's Kanji's 17th birthday, so obviously the team and friends need to get together to celebrate.
Rating: PG

It was Kanji's birthday, so of course his close friends from home were going to go all out for him; that's just what they did for each other, after all. Yukiko was in charge of decorations, and Cross had been given the solemn task of helping her, if only so she didn't sneak away to the kitchen. Yu, of course, had taken supreme command of the cooking bouncing back and forth between cooking dinner and baking the perfect cake like he was born in front of a stove.

Nothing bad could go wrong here... right?

Yu nodded, before turning back to his work. She clearly had this, and he couldn't wait to taste the finished product. Though... maybe it was paranoia, but he still eyeballed her every now and then, if only to be mindful of a new kind of Mystery Food X.

After a bit she steps away from a mid/mild spicy plate of nachos with cheese and pepper and a bowl of sour cream to the side.

"Hrm. I believe this is finished. Perhaps after some others' judgement I will consider trying something more than a basic recipe."

Eventually his peering over turned from concern to anticipation. Once she announced it was done, he was happy to shuffle over and slip away a dip slathered chip to taste.

...

"...I can't believe it," he murmured. He would have flowers around his head if he could; finally, he knew a female that could cook!

"Did I error? While it was a basic recipe I did diverge from the listed method. Hrm, perhaps I should try something more basic."

"No, it's wonderful," Yu replied, slipping out another chip, before he forced himself back to his work to take it off the heat.

"You know," he continued, "I'm looking into getting a building to start a business. There will be a living area upstairs; you should join us."

"I fear I am only the basest of chefs if you were to open a restaurant. I suspect I would need to devour many more tomes on the subject and then I may miss what I myself am searching for."

Yu let out a soft laugh. "No, the business is going to be a pet store. But it would be great to have a second person in the house that can cook."

He's pretty sure Kanji could cook, but probably only basic meals. Yukiko... no. He didn't mind cooking, but being able to mix it up would be welcome.
