There ain't no fear, there ain't no hope
Who: Ginia Solana (
whiskytraitorfirefight, Hatake Kakashi (
ura_no_ura), OPEN to spectators
What: Sparring and feeling out skills
When: 8 AM, Monday 02/10
Where: The Battle Dome
Summary: Ginia agrees to spar with Kakashi so he can gauge her skills.
Rating: PG-13 (Violence, language)
[As agreed, Ginia is in the lobby of the Battle Dome a few minutes before eight AM. She stretches lightly and paces around the room, limbering up and focusing. Should set up a room or was that something he wanted to do? She mulls lightly over before leaving the room to his decision.
Her mind is focused, but she's leery. She knows this is a test, that all she can do is show what she knows, and everything else falls into place. It's not a matter of how good a fighter he is, it's all insignificant. It still feels like she's walking into a trap.]

So even if the sight of a dirty lost child gives her pause, Ginia also knows it's a trap. And right now that trap is drawing a lot of attention.
Call her cruel, call her cold, but Ginia makes a calculated decision, takes one of the kunai and throws it at the kid.]
no subject
She wasn't emotionally swayed.
It's a good throw. Precise. But the boy dodges the kunai with ease as it goes hurtling past him, and then there's a poof of smoke that obscures him as a kunai flies towards her, and Kakashi (or at least, his clone) emerges from the smoke, no longer cloaked in henge form. ]
no subject
Ginia ducks away as the kunai comes at her, already grabbing a second kunai to hold defensively as Kakashi comes at her.]

Behind him, he can hear a few mercenaries moving into position, just a few yards toward his left, behind a car. To Ginia's immediate right is another vehicle, some fifteen feet away, behind which two more men are moving into position.
From above, Kakashi watches as he straps a few explosive tags onto the handle of a kunai. ]
no subject
She swaps the kunai for her SMG, quickly shooting at the group to the right. Glass shatters and bullets ricochet off the car, forcing them to fall back as she approaches.]
no subject
The second she turns her attention off of him the clone is on her, flipping her around so her back is pressed against his, the tip of his kunai grazing her throat. Not pressing deep enough to cut, though. ]
Never take your eye off the enemy in front of you, or you're as good as dead.
[ The words are murmured right into her ear. And just as quickly as he's there, he's gone, shoving her forward and out of the way of gunfire from the squad yards away as he jumps up and dashes quickly up the side of a wall, and onto the rooftop of the adjacent building. ]
no subject
And then he's gone and she tumbles and rolls, returning fire as she's back on her feet. There's no time to reflect on her failure, not when she's still surrounded by enemies. She burns through the last of the magazine takes shelter against the car as she ejects it to load in a new one. Taking the empty magazine, she flings it to the left into the street, gunshots following as she gets on her belly and shoots from under the car, bullets cutting across their feet and legs. She fires off a few more shots as they fall, making sure they're properly down before she's back on her feet.]

There's a clink of metal before the tags go off with a roar of fire and smoke and a deafening bang as the car itself warps, then explodes. ]
no subject
The explosive tag goes off.]
no subject
She probably can't.
Kakashi realizes this too late, and it's a good thing his clone was close enough, as he drops down right in front of her and dives, tackling her with his body, hands grabbing her head and pulling it under his chin to protect her, and sending them flying away from the blast radius, taking the brunt of the damage.
They land heavily, and for a moment, Kakashi's clone stays intact.
But then, there's a sharp sizzle in the air, and a sudden puff of smoke as he dissipates. ]

She can feel Kakashi's weight on top of her, pressing her into the ground. And then it's gone. She should get up.
Every part of her body is tense and ready to run away, but her mind freezes. She remembers being on the ground, fire surrounding her, the crack of wood and the popping of glass. Her breath catches in her chest, her fingers curl against the asphalt. Her arm hurts from the cut, a dull throbbing. Her shoulder is bruised and sore from all the falls, there's probably scrapes along her knee too.
She should get up.
Her legs refuse to move. Her hands refuse to move.
She should get up.
She hears the roar of the fire, feels the heat. And she's not 37 anymore, but a scared and bloody 22-year-old and the fire is just enough to drown out the screams.
She should get up.
She should.
She should.]

If she'd been knocked out, the simulation most likely would've come to a stop, so clearly, it's something else.
He jumps down from the rooftop and heads over to her, bending down to check on her, knee dropping to the ground as he crouches down. ]
Ginia-san. Are you alright?
no subject
She nods. Inhales, closes her eyes, closes her hands into fists.
Exhales, opens her eyes, uncurls her hands.]
/Sorry/
[She signs, even if he can't understand. Ginia knows she needs to get her head focused again. The simulation is still running, there are still opponents around. She can do this, she can pull through.
She can still smell smoke, still see fire.]
no subject
She's haunted by something, some sort of ghost, and it was the explosion that did it.
He's seen that look a thousand times. On the faces of men who've lost too much but still try to fight. On his own face in the middle of the night when he wakes up screaming Rin's name, and the blood won't wash off his hands, and all he can smell is the burning scent of skin and gristle and bone and Rin.
Easy to forget the present when the past drags itself right before your eyes.
He studies her for a moment, then slides an arm around her waist. ]
Hold onto me. We're going up.
[ It's the only warning he gives, before his other arm goes under her legs and he picks her up, and then he heads towards a car, jumps on top of it for leverage, then leaps onto the wall of the nearest building, and heads up. Once they're on the rooftop, he crouches back down to set her down.
Up here, they can talk for a little while undisturbed by mercenaries. ]
Do you want to continue, or should we end?
[ Asked as he reaches into his utility pouch and pulls out a flask of water, which he hands to her. ]

She's outclassed in Luceti. A housecat in a world of lions and sure her claws can do a bit of damage, but it's not enough. It's the cycle of her life starting over again. The broken civilian learning how to be a hunter again. The hunter learning how not to be hunted.
At least she's able to stand on her own feet up on the building. She unbuckles her helmet and gives her head a light roll, feeling stiffness in her neck, her shoulders. The usual. Ginia takes the water, takes a sip before splashing some on her face.
When Kakashi asks a question, Ginia turns to face him, finally able to meet his eye. Her expression is still haunted, but she's pulled together enough.]
'I want to see what you can do.'
[She mouths slowly.]

The simulation will end if all enemies on the board are wiped out, and Kakashi doesn't see why it'd be difficult for him to make that happen, especially with just how low level they really are. ]
Alright. I can provide a demonstration.
[ He doesn't ask for his water back, letting her keep it, as he looks out over the rooftop, to the nearby park, which is open terrain. ]
I have one question though.
[ A pause. ]
What is a "land mine"?
[ He'd noticed that she'd programmed those in. Luckily, he's avoided any traps, mostly due to the fact that he's largely stuck to rooftops and vertical walls this entire time. But if he's to take out the remainder of the simulated enemy force, he needs to have a better idea of exactly what he's dealing with.
Since he knows she doesn't have the device she usually writes on with her, he takes out his journal and a pen from his utility pouch and hands it to her, so they can communicate. ]

Explosive that detonates via pressure plate on the top. Highly sensitive, doesn't take too much to set them off.]

Especially because it has absolutely no cover.
Which is most likely about to change. ]
Alright, stay up here. I'll take care of clearing them out.
[ And then he heads to the edge of the building and jumps down, landing with a thump on the top of a car, and then heads straight for the park. ]

Doton Doryuuheki!
[ A thick wall of earth rises from the ground, and in the process, land mines across the park begin exploding from the violent quakes, one after the other in a chain that sends dirt and debris flying everywhere. Kakashi, however, is relatively safe, protected by the wall.
He's also quite certain that this much noise will attract the mercenaries, which is exactly what he wants. ]
no subject
She watches with uneasy awe as the earth moves, rising and shaking, the boom of mines echoing, the large wall protecting him. Whoever is left in the simulation will begin to converge on his location just as they did earlier when she set off the car alarms.
Her hand touches her neck.]

Mercenary groups shout as they begin to creep in slowly, from the north, south, and east, carefully trying to flank the wall Kakashi'd created. For a long moment, nothing happens.
Then, out of nowhere, the ground breaks open, and Kakashi comes bursting out of the ground with a kunai, jamming it right through the base of a mercenary's chin. In a blur of motion, he grabs hold of two of the mercenaries closest to him, spinning them around as a shield as the group north of him begin to fire, the group to the east breaking into a formation at the corner of his eye. Dragging the bodies back with him to the wall, he ducks behind it and drops the men he'd been using as a shield, hands flying through seals in a blur, forming the seals for katon.
When he re-emerges, he takes a deep breath. ]
Katon Goukyakku no Jutsu!
[ And with that, a massive fireball explodes before him as he breathes fire out, growing in size and intensity as it rolls towards the group of men. ]
no subject
When the fireball bursts out, Ginia's breath catches. Her chest tightens and she backs away from the edge of the building, forcing herself to look away. Her hands tighten, her knuckles white as she grips the flask. It's not as bad being on the ground, an explosion going off next to her, but it's still something she can't watch either.]

He dives towards the large fountain and lands on the surface of the water, then begins forming another series of seals. There isn't a lot of water to work with here, and it isn't nearly as good as a river, but he should still be able to use it for his own purposes. ]
Suiton! Suiryuudan no Jutsu!
[ A dragon rises out of the water, twisting and turning some thirty feet high -- not nearly as high as it normally would've grown to, if Kakashi had more water to work with. But then it crashes down in a violent tidal wave towards the last group of men, flooding the field in the process.
Anyone else standing on the field is most likely a little wet now. ]
no subject
[ Lightning sparks alive in his right hand at that very moment, and Kakashi jumps down onto the patch of land before him and sends his hand down at the large puddle of water, effectively electrocuting the mercenaries standing in inches of water.
And then, in a blur, he's moving straight towards the ones who managed to escape that first round of electrocution, cutting them down one by one until he's the last one standing on the field. ]
no subject
The crackling of electricity, the flash of light, death comes quickly to everyone left in the water, the remainder swiftly cut down.
And he's an ally. It's something Ginia forces herself to remember, all while thinking it's only a matter of time before alliances crumble. And suppose there's the wrong shift and he turns on the village. What then? Certainly there are stronger people, but if they turn?
But at least he's an ally for now. At least someone she wants to stay on the good side of.
With the last mercenary dead, the simulation flicks briefly, then ends. They find themselves back in an empty steel room, both safely on the ground. Ginia looks over to where her cellphone is and picks it up, briefly aware from the dull throb of her arm the bandage around her arm is gone.
...There's a lot to think on. Ginia's still not sure where to begin.]
