Summary: After learning that he missed Rin's birthday, Nagisa has put together a party to make up for it.

What's a boy to do when he realizes he missed the birthday of an old friend he's just mending ties with? Throw a party, even twenty days late. Because it's the thought that counts.

Haru's been given the instructions to keep Rin out of the apartment until 5. Which is pretty easy. They can hang out at the Battledome simulation for the pool. The party's supposed to be a surprise, but Nagisa isn't totally counting on that. Because, well, if Rin wants to come back early and Haru stops him... Nagisa can't be sure he won't tell him the truth about why they can't go back.

Still, he's just happy to get to do this for Rin!

[Once Haru and Rin leave for the day, all of Nagisa's hidden decorations come out. He's been stacking them in his closet and hiding them under his bed. Now, though, he carts the boxes into the living room and starts setting up.

He's enlisted help, so it's just a matter of time before they get here!]

[Selphie's raps her knuckles against the door with a happy bounce to her position. It feels like its been so long since she helped with a party that she looks about ready to burst from the excitement that she's trying to contain.]

Nagisa-chaaaaan~! It's Selphie!

Selphie-chan!

[Nagisa says it as he opens the door, grinning wide.

Most of the stuff is set out, not set up. There are balloons and other decorations that have been hauled out, but he hasn't gotten around to actually getting everything where it needs to go.]

Come on in.

Jeez Nagisa-chan, you could've hidden some of this in my apartment y'know.

[Regardless, Selphie pulls off her shoes and pushes the sleeves of her blue shirt up to her elbows before looking at the assortment of goodies expectantly. Her eyes light up with delight as she appraises the decorations with a keen eye.]

All righty! We've got tons of stuff to play around with so let's get crackin'!

It all fit under my bed and in my closet. Rin-chan doesn't suspect anything!

[Rubbing her hands together, Selphie's decoration index is running a mile a minute to see what kind of decorations they can pull off with the supplies.]

Perfect! It's a good day for a surprise party if you ask me. I can get started on the decorations if you wanna go grab the cake?

Sure! I decided to get two since I don't know if Rin-chan likes chocolate or vanilla better.

[It seemed like the best idea at the time, certainly, and still holds up, as far as he's concerned.]

Happy birthday, Rin-chan!

[It's said with all the excitement he has when Haru and Rin return.

The place is decked out colorfully, there's a cake, there are snacks and drinks, and there's some music going. It's only been planned for a week or so and by someone whose forte is not planning, but he's pulled it together for the most part.]

[Rin blinks at the decorations, the cake, the whole apartment decked out for a birthday. His birthday, which was a couple of weeks ago, by this place's calendar.]

Nagisa, what...?

[He laughs a little, a slow smile spreading across his face.] You did all this?

With help!

[For his part, Nagisa has sort of attached to Rin's arm. Not a full hug, but definitely close. In the same family.

He grins.]

I realized I missed Rin-chan's birthday. [So not his fault. He wasn't here for it.] So, I decided to make up for it!

[You said you didn't want a party. But the thought isn't malicious, more amused. In a way, he's glad Nagisa's done this for Rin; Haruka knows he wouldn't be able to do something like this.

Turning his head to address Rin.]

You got a party after all.

biceps! ...I mean whut? ;)

[Selphie focuses all her internal sunshine at the trio, quite happy with the decorating. She beams at them before moving forward to greet them.]

Happy birthday, Rin-chan! Is it okay that I call you that? If it's too awkward I can address you differently and I know we haven't met and all but I'm Selphie and it's super nice to meet you!

[Rin's a bit overwhelmed by all this, but he turns to Selphie.]

Um... just Rin is okay. [He doesn't mind it from Nagisa, but other people, honestly?] You're Nagisa's friend? [Too much cheerful all in one room, he can't help but smile, really.]

[He glances over at Haru, shaking his head.] I didn't ask him for it. But you know Nagisa. [It's unsaid, but they both know it.]

[...Well, that answers the question of why Nagisa wanted him to keep Rin away for a while. Nagisa has done all this, huh? He's actually a little impressed, and it would have been shown in the widening of his eyes when he'd entered with Rin.

There better be mackerel on the food table though--

Speaking of mackerel... Where's the rabbit that roams the apartment? Though he doesn't say anything, he does end up wandering off to look for Mackerel the bunny.]

[There is definitely mackerel on one of the plates on the table. Thankfully, there were plenty of people around here who could cook it, since Haru did the important task of keeping Rin busy.

Mackerel the rabbit is safely tucked away with bedding, food, and water in Haru's bedroom.

Which, when the door is opened, Nagisa seems to appear right behind Haru.]

I thought he might be scared of lots of people over at once, so I figured I'd put him somewhere quiet.

[Haruka doesn't startle when Nagisa suddenly appears, though he does turn to regard the blonde.

He appreciates the consideration -- though he keeps his thanks in his head -- especially since Mackerel himself seems a little wary of the increase in noise. But Mackerel hops over to Nagisa and Haruka to say hello! Haruka squats to give Mackerel a light pat.]

Hey.

[The word is directed at Nagisa.]

Did we miss your birthday, too?

[...Because he doesn't remember if Nagisa's told him his birthday. This sort of thing doesn't exactly come up on common conversation and... now that he thinks about it, he really hasn't known Rin and Nagisa for very long at all.]

[For the moment, Nagisa is actually startlingly calm. His energy levels seem to have dropped by at least half, though not in a bad way. Instead, he's just crouched down to pet the rabbit.

Because being too loud or moving too fast might scare it.]

Mine's not until August.

...Though if it really is February, I missed Rei-chan's birthday a long time ago.

[Which. At least Rei's not here. So it's totally okay that he missed it. Or, at least, it doesn't need to be made up for. Rin's... Well. He's just lucky that he came sort of close to it.]

[Haruka's missed his birthday, too. But that's not really important. At this point in time, Haruka's still on the process of warming up to Rei; he's not really sure what to make of Rei, so his response is a little more guarded than when he'd asked Nagisa.]

When was his?

[Mackerel is pretty happy about the extra attention, butting his head up against Nagisa's hand.]

[So guess who shows up with a large present box as he knocks on the open front door of the apartment? This guy.]

Hello? I hope I haven't arrived too late.

[When Sasame walks in, Haruka's mood sours slightly. But he can't bring himself to be that irritated at Sasame; he's here for Rin, presumably.

Or he heard the noise.

But Sasame's brought a present for Rin, which does ease a little of his irritation. He does offer the smallest of waves in greeting to Sasame... though in practice it's more like Haruka just raising a hand.]

[soundcarrier]

[He sets the present down on a table and walks over to Haruka. He knows their last conversation was a bit sour, but he tries to act like he's happy to see him.]

It's good to see you again, Haruka. I've met your two other friends and so I thought I should come to Rin's party. I hope you don't mind.

It's fine.

[You can do what you want. If Sasame's friends with Rin and Nagisa, then he has every right to be here. Haruka isn't about to kick up a fuss, especially when Sasame hasn't started being annoying... yet.]

[He sits down on the couch and kind of invites Haruka to sit with him.]

Are you enjoying yourself?

[Rin eyes the giant box curiously. What could someone possibly buy for him?]

Sasame, right? We talked earlier, I think.

[He got a few ideas from Nagisa mostly.]

Yes that's me. It's nice to see you again, Rin.
